(imagine an awesome banner image here cause i'm too lazy to make one :P)
I watch a LOT of TV and movies and was thinking about how i'd rate my favourite TV shows of all time - not just shows as a whole but which seasons because that season of LOST would knock it off my top 5 easily if we were to take all seasons into account.
I'm interested how my thoughts compare to others' and what awesome shows I may not have watched...
So please discuss if you disagree with my rankings or have other shows that are awesome
First up a couple of rules i'm going to use
Only 1 season from a show including spinoffs
Logical reasoning considering writing, acting, production quality etc
Season 2
This spot was toughest. I was going to put Dexter season 2 but I felt like SCC often get overlooked unfortunately so.
Season 1 started out like a wannabe Terminator 2 with a fraction of the budget and was super super cheesy - I mean a hot teenage chick terminator... da fuq?
But by the end of season 1 it really becomes its own show and brings some real legitimacy to the Terminator "universe". Season 2 keeps that going and does things that I have not seen in any other show. Really odd casting choices that work and a Terminator show with good characters...?
If you have discounted this series before because lets face it, you don't look to Terminator for interesting, good characters and intriguing story and sadley thats is likely why the show didn't get the attention it should have and was ultimately cancelled. Terminator fans didn't get what they were expecting and those who would have liked it dismissed it because its Terminator.
I highly recommend this series
Season 5
The whole show is just ******* gobsmackingly good.
Walter's transformation from the first episode to the latest is expertly handled in every way and the same can be said for his partner Jesse. The show is tense and never lets up.
It nails everything it attempts to do so what more can I say
All hail the king.
Only 1 season
Well of course this has to be on here. No self-respecting person who has seen it wouldn't hate FOX for cancelling this show. An amazing universe with brilliant, likable and interesting characters and arguably Whedon's best writing give this show such a charm I find it hard to recommend to someone who hasn't seen it simply because of the pain of finishing all there is to see and knowing there is no more TT
"青蛙操的流氓"
Season 1
While later seasons lost what made made the first season so special (eh heh heh) the first season was simply amazing.
The theme of following a single character's change in each episode, revealing more about who they are via flashbacks, allowed for some really interesting character development throughout season 1. The reveal of Locke's big secret was so amazing it brought very masculine tears to me eyes.
The show focused primarily on the characters and their development on this mysterious island and they really nailed that balance of character development and the events of the story. Later in the show the characters fell to the wayside and it became all about the events which was a problem cause by the limitations of their formula (though second half of season 2 was awesome in that regard)
Top notch writing, great acting and some really awesome moments, not least of which was the season one cliffhanger make it all the more sad that the show ended at season 5 without finishing ;P
season 1
I'm not including the pilot as that was the miniseries - a test run to see if a whole season was worth making.
Other ranks were a really really tough call but season 1 of BSG is easily the best season of TV I have ever seen. Excellent characters, writing, production design with a really cool realist yet retro sci-fi look and OMFG that ending. No series cliffhanger hanger has had THAT much impact as the ending of this season.
The way characters were handled was simply amazing, seeing boomer struggling with her identity or Balter questioning his actions and sanity were masterfully handled in both writing, acting and direction.
It had such good characterization as well as some awesome action to boot. Drama, politics, space battles, killer robots, sexy killer robots all tied together with masterful storytelling, directing and acting.
In a word; Brilliant.
SO SAY WE ALL!
Notable mentions
Dexter season 2, Angel season 5, Walking dead season 3, Spooks season 1, Game of Thrones season 2 May add notes to these later
I'm really interested what other peoples thoughts are ^.^

On topic, Lost image doesnt work, but it was indeed a good series, ending was hella confusing though. And personally i think SG-1 and Atlantis were better than universe.
Oh yeah and Game of Thrones should be somewhere

season 1 of dexter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> season 2. wtf?
season 1 of dexter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> season 2. wtf?
Reasoning behind this is cause the Dexter v Doakes story was awesome and in season 1 I found Dexter's character, while interesting, to be unlikable for a good while
season 1 of dexter >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> season 2. wtf?
You include Walking Dead season 2 in the notables... This season made me want to shoot myself. There were a few awesome parts like when Shane and the fat guy were trying to retrieve medical supplies, and in the last episode when blonde girl (andrea) gets seperated and is running from a horde of zombies through the woods for hours shooting them in head and eventually running out of ammo and stabbing them one at a time until awesome katana chick saves her.
Other than those two, it was like... wait how did any of these people survive this long? They make the dumbest decisions over and over... and over... and over... and then at the end of it they're like, "hey you know what, let's sit on our ass and bicker about stupid shit rather than learning how to fight, coming up with emergency plans or stocking up on weapons and supplies..."
Season 3 is the first moment where we see them finally learning to be smart and actually kill people that threaten them, work effectively as a team and use hand-to-hand weapons effectively to conserve ammo. This makes me actually respect the characters enough to want to keep watching the show!
Agree with dexter and breaking bad though! Never watched Angel but heard only the early seasons were good?
Arrested development is definitely still on my top 5
Non big-budget US shows also good: BBC The Office, Black Books, Spaced. Recommend anyone to watch those!
I may have been thinking of season 3 of walking dead instead of 2 ^^;
I didn't include Buffy cause its together with Angel and season 5 of Angel is easily the best and most interesting / fun cause its got Spike too
People should be sharing their top 5 lists too instead of just disagreeing outright. Of course everyone's favourite is different as this is a very subjective thing and there is no "right" answer.
Mine would be something like this ranked in no order.
Top 5
dexter
game of thrones
californication
death note
the office
Breaking Bad - Season 1 but they are all brilliant! So original... put it on your bucket list!
Sons of Anarchy - Season 3. Revenge is sweet! This show needs more attention, has it all.
The Walking Dead - Season 3. Just plain better than the rest. Season 1 gets you hooked.... season 3 makes up for season 2.
Game of Thrones - Season 3 (?). Hard to split 1 & 2.... just wish there wasn't such a big gap between seasons.
Dexter - Surprise Mother F'er!!!! You need to watch them all...
Hell on Wheels - Only 2 season to date... 3rd on its way. Cant split 1 and 2.
Boardwalk Empire - Still watching season 1.
Spartacus - Season 1
The River - Different... but worth the watch if you cant wait for your favourite shows to come back on.
Most of these have a very strong story that flows over the season which I prefer to a majority of the shows that have a more per episode thing.... needs to be good to catch my attention or I tend to just give up on them. With the exception of Boardwalk Empire (which I am currently watching) I have seen them all.
The top 7 above are must watch tv shows.... Spartacus and The River were good fill ins.
My Top 5 TV Seasons(not necessarily ranked):
Miranda season 1
Black Books season 1
Better off Ted season 2 (seriously, so underrated).
Band of Brothers
Game of Thrones season 1.
Better off Ted season 2 (seriously, so underrated).
This. It really is.
Some interesting discussion on there. I haven't seen all of them so I can't voice much of an opinion on that list, but my favorites would be (in no order)
Community
Game of Thrones
Chuck
Better off Ted
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Honorable Mentions:
Nikita
The Office
The Inbetweeners
Blue Mountain State
I can't really compare a season of one show vs another, so I'm sticking to just naming series. The best single season of any show might be The Simpsons season 8. In no particular order, my shows are
1. Archer
2. Futurama
3-5. Breaking Bad
3-5. Game of Thrones
3-5. The Office (UK)
With notable mentions Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The IT Crowd, I'm Alan Partridge, and probably others.
Top 5 Anime: Death Note, Code Geass, Evangelion, Monster, Cowboy Bebop
I'm excluding miniseries to give myself an easy way to not pick Band of Brothers.
I'll admit to not having seen Battlestar, Firefly or Boardwalk Empire. They are all sitting on my PC waiting for me to watch them, but I haven't got around to them.
Derek is also worth an honourable mention based on its pilot.

I don't know if any of you guys saw the BBC Sherlock but I found it incredible. Really enjoyed the way they put it together and the way each episode was essentially a movie allowed for really interesting story lines. Definitely recommend it.
I've still yet to watch Breaking Bad, and catch up on Community..
I sure am missing out. D:
I have seen the first episode BBC Sherlock though (that's the one where Sherlock's a massive smartass right?), it was bloody amazing and gonna source out more episodes down the line. Seeing as I have nothing for 3 weeks after my supplementary exam, watching the recommended shows here should entertain me until Uni starts. So thanks for posting this.

Every time I try to get a friend to try out Breaking Bad they watch a couple episodes and say it's too slow and give up on it. And a little part of me dies inside as I give up on the human race

I feel you
Unfortunately not as many people want interesting characters and ongoing stories
They want their dead body of the week and convoluted whodunnits
