Will be very unlucky and might feel a little unfair getting knocked out from them..this isn't double elim right?
Single Elim.
Same situation as last months Masters Cup (International), which served as a NA qualifier, both played then.
If PiG and Mafia did come first and second. The third/fourth placed players would have done more than enough to earn their spot, as it is a very tough event to place highly in at the best of times.
So yes might be a bit unlucky if knocked out early, but there have been other qualifiers, and it wouldn't be fair to restrict them from such a large tournament.

The problem is what if something like jaz v mafia happens round 1/2 (not those exact players) and jaz loses: he gets ko'd from someone who can't actually end up qualifying. I agree that they should definately be able to play due to the tournament being a pretty big one for us (SEA), so it's a tough issue.
bwodie will not be able to make it as he is in WA at the time. (we are same team so i just got fb pm.
Brodie Stephens
thanks heaps bud. Work is sending me to WA tomorrow till next Wednesday, so I will miss it)
This is kinda stupid, what happens if someone who has the potential to qualify , hits pig first round? Hes out of the tournament and cant qualify for SEASL because he got unlucky with brackets, by the same vain what happens if theres someone in the bracket who makes it to ro4 before hitting pig/mafia/targa/etc.
I understand your trying to let them have a chance with the prizepool but if I get beaten by anyone who has already qualified I am going to feel cheated out of spot and I'm sure so will most other people.

This is called "Competition" and it happens in every single major sport/e-sport in the world.

This event is first and foremost the SEA Masters Cup. We shall not restrict or deny players the opportunity to participate, except if it conflicts with our long running rules, which have been formed with the support of the community.
It is also worth acknowledging that this is the 2nd Masters Cup to serve as a SEASL qualifier. Previous SEASL qualified players were allowed to participate in that event, without concerns being raised.
The SEASL spots were added into this Masters Cup as additional reward, and ties in with other established Sc2sea run events. It also serves as additional exposure for both events, our community, and all players involved.
Couldn't the case be made that as each qualifier goes by it gets easier? Would not the first qualifier be the hardest in theory. This Masters Cup will offer at least that same level of difficulty for all, if not more.
Whoever gets the spots will have to earn them, whether they come 1st/2nd, or 3rd, 6th,etc. It's a big event full of quality opposition. The spots will go to the next best in line, provided someone outside of the already qualified group doesn't win. Take a look at some names not qualified, and they certainly match up against that player pool.
Concerns about losing to someone like PiG early are also a little confusing. You would have to play someone at least around the same level in the SEASL finals anyway, so best to earn it, and prove you can match it with them in this tournament.
-Just some of my thoughts on the issue, and clarification about Masters Cup position regarding the qualifying spots and our established rules.
Regardless it doesn't make sense for players who have already qualified for an event be allowed to play in another qualifier for the same event. I mean, sure you might have to beat them in the event anyway (assuming you qualify) but it ruins the legitimacy of the event imo.
This is a similar issue to the whole having moonglade/tgun play as a mercenary for SEACL, if the team he plays for wins they won't gain credit due to having glade play for them. In the same vain, if I lose to mafia in round 1 and he goes on to win the event and someone gets the luck of the brackets and doesn't hit a player who can't qualify till semis then auto qualifies, then I will be incredibly frustrated because a player got lucky. (comparatively)
I understand that this is an issue you have to deal with anyway but when the players in question have ALREADY QUALIFIED, in my opinion hurts all the competitors except for those who qualified prior. (Just because you don't want to exclude them from an event with a pretty significant prize pool)
I honestly think it would be easier to just have another CO, let the players play in this and then have the qualification separate. In fact this is basically akin to the byun/coca incident.
Whatever thats just my 2 cents
