The amount of bans and warnings! Really? I know TL have their own forum rules and guidelines and thats fine and everything. But from my understanding, TL is the most popular sc2 site for foreigners and although those people were banned for such posts, IMO it's still contributing somehow to the discussion. Personally, I believe any input is great as long as it's on topic. However, I can see how people would get so frustrated when they are simply just trying to "help."
I for one know many other gaming community sites which are 100 times worse in terms of how people talk to each other generally on the forum, whilst getting away with it. But here all I see is people trying to help and just get banned. I know my opinion doesn't mean jack in the grand scheme of things, but I mean some of these people posting could just be 13 - 15 year olds are are just simply contributing in their own way. It's great for mods to ban those who are abusive on the forums, those who troll and derail the forums but don't you guys think this is just a bit too much?
I appreciate the content on this site and everything and the forum moderate is top notch imo. But I think this may be taking things a little too far.
Lastly, just another question on the side.... Is there any other great sc2 site around such as TL? I know there is PlayXP, but I can't read Korean and Google translator is just a joke.
TL is fine it has to be harsh there are so many members. The quality is suffering as it is even with strict moderation. I am all for the TL style of moderating!

I agree with this. TL has a LOT of shit to deal with, so many thousands upon thousands of users they need to set strict rules and will warn / temp ban instantly, or even perma ban new users who break them.
It's a style of moderation that kind of NEEDS to happen when a site gets that huge. Everyone on sc2sea knows eachother and the mods are very approachable, and it will remain that way for a very long time. It's how we like to run things, but granted this site is very small and very young compared to TL. Not as many idiots :P
TL have their rules and guidlines, people break the rules they get a ban/warning, once you get that big you have to be very firm with the rules, if you start to make exceptions because they're 13-15 years old then it add's alot of grey areas to their ruleset, and thats something you cant afford on a site with that much traffic.
If you are old enough to post then you're old enough to read the rules.
Yeah, while TL has some really really really teensy tiny points of moderation I'd personally disagree with, I think from an objective point of view they're doing the best job they can at making the site run well.
The reason the strategy forum is so strict is because of the long spate they had of people giving generic advice without watching the reply, which is alright, but got really boring/pointless after the 20th thread everyone saw of the same generic stuff.
As del said, it's because TL has become such a large community that moderation has to be so strict. If they want to maintain a reputation as a fun, but still fair/nice community on the internet, then they do have to keep certain standards. Most of us don't find much wrong with the way they moderate
One of the rules of the strategy forum is that if you reply, you must first watch the replay in the OP.
Look at these:
'I'm too lazy to watch the replays..."
"Gonna watch your rep now..."
The strategy forum has very strict guidelines because without them there it'd be incredibly hard to sort through all the bullshit from the high quality posts.
I'm not exactly sure what went on with all the other warnings, could be that they said something super silly (I got nfi terran) or it was something in their delivery. The warnings enable the mods to help the post quality without derailing the thread completely.
the posters "arent" helping - they're only providing the illusion of helping; instead of watching the replay and providing direct, constructive advice, they're essentially theorycrafting, which is what makes the TL strategy forums such a shit-heap to begin with.
from what i've seen in that link most were only "warnings" not bans. they are particularly strict in their strategy forum as compared to the other sections of their forum as they want to keep control of the quality in those forums and thats good.
yea as everyone has said the bigger the forum gets the stricter you have to become to ensure the quality is kept. This is so the community as a whole isn't hurt by all the obligatory trolls and and bad posters that come with the high population and they are slowly weeded out.
3300+ posts, no warnings or bans. Stop being morons on the internet.
Anyway, I spent 3-4 years moderating some gaming forums, and forums with specific purposes (particularly strategy) need tight rules so that the discussion is helpful. You want to create a culture of people watching the replay and providing good information, and not replying if they can't contribute. You do this by kicking out everyone who can't grasp that basic concept. The result: a strategy section where you can generally expect decent advice if you provide the appropriate information.

I dont think TL is too harsh, like others have said they do have alot of users to deal with so they have to set a standard. they can get quite a bit of rubbish otherwise. If you follow the rules then you're fine, nothing harsh
Although I do agree with all of you, there are much more worst posts on the site which are;
1. Blatantly trolling
2. Derailing the thread
And pretty much get away with it without even a warning. I dunno, when I seen this thread I just had a "hmmmm" moment.
It's like as if a mod had a bad day, opened up TL and said "OMFG F&*K THIS S*&T IMA BAN DIS ONE DIS ONE AND DIS ONE!" lol.
Whatever pushes their buttons I guess.
But umm, back to the 2nd question I asked int the OP, does anyone know of any other great sc2 community sites?
Firstly, TL's mods are ridiculously good, and i'm pretty sure if one did the "herp derp bad day so i ban you" then they'd be swiftly kicked in the groin and booted, because it just doesnt happen.
And you have sc2sea and TL, why on earth would you want more? O.o
I find it amusing that posts that at least gave a semblance of being helpful got warned/banned while this one
"Normally you ge banned for saying anything contrary to mods opinion or something about reality outside of SC. But this is a record even for TL..."
Didn't get anything haha.

If it were as high quality as the replay feedback thread here on SC2SEA then there would be no need for such heavy-handed moderating.
Generally speaking the moderating style is to discourage posting for the sake of it. That may sound bad but I believe you should only really post if you are going to put the effort in and make a high quality post. One or two high quality posts will be much more helpful then 20 or so 'off the top of my head' posts.
Hope this helps! ^^
