What to do In a major low.

Good evening all!

Venom here again. Yet another post about what needs to be done .
I wanna know what everyone does when u go on one of these massive downs.
Just today i went through one of these. A Massive 10-12 game lose streak losing like 70-120 points on the ladder. going from rank 2 to rank 11. .
So what do you do when u go on one of these slumps.

Is the answer to just keep hitting the find match button or what?
Let me know .
Also anyone if you are able to possible look over some of my replays. let me know where i can improve that would also be a great help.

Thanks all .
Venom

Take a break man and play some customs where there is no pressure. You dont have to ladder you can always just have friendlies to focus on improving.

I would suggest taking a break, just do customs and then get back on ladder when you feel comfortable again.

I've found theres a couple of ways of going about it. I think its a matter of finding what works for you, because everyone is different.

1. One way of going about it is to keep hitting the find match button. Try to stay confident, look at your replays of your games as you finish playing them, be critical, examine exactly what you did wrong and try not to make the same mistake again. Eventually you start to win again and get some confidence back (or at least thats the theory!)

2. Another option is as Flamga said, play customs! Play with friends! Practice with people in PRACBUD or something. Just play without caring whether you win or lose, focus on what you're doing, and where you are struggling and work at trying to iron out your flaws. Or, if youre playing customs just enjoy it! Play them for fun, because at the end of the day SC2 is a game after all

3. The other option, and my preferred choice, stop playing. Be it for a couple hours, a day, or a few! Whatever suits you. Go outside get some fresh air, maybe watch some tv, read a book, catch up with friends just do something to take your mind off it! Then come back in a few hours/days and start smashing some more nerd brains!

At the end of the day, its a game and its supposed to be fun! So try to enjoy it Hope this helps!

U just log off, go do something else that u enjoy and try another day.

Very common for me to lose 10 games and then come back later to win the next 10.

Spend a couple of games training a friend who is in a lower league? i am a low league player so i don't have the same experience as you.. but cementing memory and learning in any area works better if you teach it to someone else..
Since you seem to be goal driven person...set a goal with your friend and when you achieve it (or they do).. back onto the ladder?? play the game you love but in a different way for a couple of days...

Actually, that IS the problem.

Ur so intent on getting promoted, u kept on playing even though u know ur not playing well/up to ur standard. Its a common mistake that we all make.

if u lose ten todays not your day, i would stop laddering if i lost 3 in a row. it takes me quite a long time to play each game though because if i lose i spend a long time going through the replay and updating my spreadsheet.

sometimes i lose a few games and just stop playing, come back another time and everything clicks way better. if u wanna play more just for fun or to get better play customs.

I have lost 15 games in a row before.
After breaking numerous items within reach, I just left the game for a while. I didn't play for a day or two, came back and looked at every single loss's replay. I got a friend to have a look as well so I had two perspectives of what I was doing wrong. After that I decided to fix each one of those problems individually until they became a habit. During this "fixing" stage I was doing about 4 wins for every 10 games. But after the "fixing" stage I started to win considerably more and got promoted quickly after.

So take a break, check what your biggest problems are and focus on them one by one. Another idea is once you break out of your slump, go back and compare what you're doing now to what you were doing before in order to see how you really have progressed.

Really depends what kind of an attitude you're in. If its good, keep playing. If its bad, try not to get to that bad attitude again, and take a break for half an hour or so.

What do I do? I've broken headsets, my knuckles, have a hand-sized dent in my wall and door. My right hands middle knuckle is permanently fucked up just from rage.

What should you do? Walk around, calm down and take some time off / play another game / etc. Lights advice is probably the best.

As soon as I start to get in that horrible mindset that comes with a string of losses, it just snowballs. A couple of games played poorly might mean I do something to mess around in-game, like a bit of campaign or a custom game. If it gets really bad, I will just quit SC2 for the day and go do something else. In saying that I think yang's advice is great, I don't do that myself and I feel like I'm worse off as a result :P

I know people have different ideas about gg'ing, but personally no matter what happens I always feel the need to gg for this reason. It's a small acknowledgement that the other guy was able to pull off a win, and no matter how unjustified you think that result is, or how much better you were, he managed to squeeze the win. I think not gg'ing out of frustration sells yourself short in a way. It's a little thing that can have great effect

A friend of mine from Wc3 used to joke that "Inactivity is like practice for elf" and taking all jokes out of his comment there is something important there. I have had a lot of problems with my PC, internet (from moving place of residence multiple times etc), sometimes going a month or two between stints but what i did for a while is when i was somewhere with net i downloaded a shittonne of replays to a USB and bought them back to my place and watched them all. I mean literally hundreds. Obviously you don't want to stay away for two months and that won't help you improve but the idea is the same. Next time you have a loss streak or lose a particularly frustrating game just exit SC2, wander off and get food/drink and when you come back don't play. Download lots of replays and watch them. Watch them from your race's player view, the other view, the observer view. Be relaxed and try to focus on WHY they do what they do, WHEN they do it. Certain builds on certain maps in certain matchups. Sometimes the best thing you can do is actually not play for a few days/a week but still focus on it. That way you are being productive without getting pissed off after every loss. When you sit back down to play you will feel relaxed and won't be focussing on your last loss, or your LAST game and instead focus on THIS game. They key thing here is being fresh, having a fresh mindset. Professional athletes, despite doing their sport for a living still have breaks either after long stints/or a run of poor form and more often than not you will notice they come back rejuvenated, motivated and performing better than before. Sorry for the novel that prolly makes no sense, it's early and i've been drinking :P

TLR - Take a productive break not just a random break and come back with a fresh mindset

I get frustrated all the time, just can't seem to get back into that frame of mind. Its not a case of being ridiculously rubbish (that I could dispute that statement) just a mentality that makes you make poor decisions that really tilt the game in their favour.

Sucks I cant get back round to that good frame again -.-

Play vs the AI. It'll get you thinking and with 0 lag it will feel more natural if you feel you're playing slow.

found this trick i liked during my power outage.. feels so much better when u warp in something with 0 latency. this way you think about your next action rather than wondering for that slight half a second if your action actually went through.

When I'm in a slump (or whatever you want to say it), I usually get demotivated and just play some other game or maybe even go to bed. After a few hours, when I get motivated again, I turn on Starcraft II and started playing again. That's what I usually do when I'm in a slump.

I'd like to also share something with you right now: I just got back from my Basketball practice. In my Basketball team at school, I'm known to be one of the worst players on my team (Or so I would say). Usually when the team would split into smaller groups and started playing each other, I usually end up with the girls (I'm male), and it sucks. Hard. I get demotivated and I get owned by the opposing team.

But today, all of my teammates are male, and I was up against a (more or less) all girls team. Those girls "aren't really good" at Basketball (no offense) so I became confident and I played really well against them. But then the coached switched the all girls team with a team full of iGrandmaster basketball players on my school. I couldn't even steal the ball, so I slowly became demotivated to play and my team lost. Hard.

So yeah, in my opinion, self confidence can really affect how you do in all things, if you feel confident, you will do many things a lot better than how you usually do, and vice versa. So yeah, regain some confidence and start playing again. I'm sure you'll start owning again.
