Hi, everybody.
First, let's thank Swarmstika and Namakaye for putting this event up. It is probably quite a bit of work to organize this team X team.
SSfp is assisting with the initial prize pool, but the idea with a long tournament is to raise awareness of the SEA's teams from non-SEA viewers and also to give time to people to contribute a little bit with prize. Every single bit counts and is welcome, so let's try to make it at least twice of the current mark.
Though this is not SK Telecom X Jin Air (or your favorite kespa team here), contributors will greatly benefit from the replay pack because the skill from these players are closer to the real world than that of kespa aliens. Gold/Plat/Dia have a lot to learn from the participants because the competition in SEA is too fierce, and these blokes have a history of putting quite a bit of trouble for high tier players. The results of open tournaments are there to prove.
I will update my home page with this thread and hopefully we will spread the word enough to get the attention deserved by these players and increase the prize pool. As a viewer, I want to thank the organizers and the teams for putting this up. We know you guys are going to show some very, very strong games, as you always do.
This is fantastic! Team leagues have always been my favorite to watch and play in, and I'm sad i'm nowhere near active enough to participate in it. I love the format, refreshing and extremely fair.
My 2 cents:
Surely, moreso than any other format, this team league can accommodate odd number of teams? I don't think every team having a single bye every round will be an issue; it keeps it fair and increases diversity.
I agree with Pet with merc players, but I'm unsure about merc teams. I'd just like to throw out that 4 teams is pretty much the bare minimum this can be done, and adding extra teams, even with its disadvantages, will make things much more interesting. Besides, the banter between teams can still exist even with a merc team.
Seeing you have two rounds in the round robin phase, wouldn't it be more interesting to have one proleague and the other AK? That way we can see every team playing against each other in both the formats. I would prefer proleague in the playoff bracket as that's where we're likely to see extremely well prepared builds, but I guess proleague vs all-kill is something people can debate all day.

I like these suggestions. I really don't see a problem with adding in more teams, even up to 6. However, its about who is the best team as Petrify says - Merc team would likely be very strong and doesn't help to find out which team in SEA is the strongest in this competition. Plus, I'd rather give a team like Dynasty or SYF the chance to play over a merc team.
I don't mind the idea of one round AK and one round Pro-league format, to showcase both formats, but I believe the playoffs are AK so both formats will be on display....? I think in Proleague they mix up the formats well, and the final series could be a Bo3 series with both AK and Proleague played within a week....?
Really looking forward to this and I hope that fray is up to the challenge!
Cool to see this develop! Team leagues can be really hard to run/players to commit to/and finish, but with only 4 teams shouldn't be as big of an issue. Plus it has a couple of reliable admins to run it, so i have faith this will succeed where others have failed.
Not a fan of mercs joining established teams (all 4 teams have deep lists anyway.)
When the league was first considered there were a number of teams on the short list. However, it was soon discovered that the majority of teams do not have a roster that would suit the format of this league.
The ideal is to promote the teams & the pro players who have worked hard to get on to a team roster. Hopefully, this league will inspire others to work hard to achieve a position on a roster or form a deep team. On the other hand, mercs would be a negative in the goal of this 'Team' league as pointed out by others in this thread.
As such, x5, fray, eCKo, SLCN were considered to have the depth to participate in the league.
We decided on four teams initially to showcase the current top teams in the region and use it as a case study to attract more sponsors for Season 2. We really do hope to have more teams the second season as we would like to see this help grow the local scene.
The guys have some great plans in regards to production so I hope everyone gets behind it and supports & promotes it.
We will definitely see a lot of great games that will highlight how talented SEA players are.
Good luck to everyone involved, and may the best team (SLCN.pro) win
Meant to do this over the weekend but forgot, so I'm doing it now. Here's the draw for RR#1
Round Robin #1
Week #
Match 1
Match 2
Week #1
Exile 5 v eCKo eSports
Silicon Sports v Frenetic Array
Week #2
Exile 5 v Silicon Sports
eCKo eSports v Frenetic Array
Week #3
Exile 5 v Frenetic Array
eCKo eSports v Silicon Sports
(Seems like there's no Orange or Green, so SLCN and Fray, sorry, you guys!)
Days for each will be announced closer to the match dates so don't assume
this shows Tuesday or Thursday.
Round 2 will be based off the results of Round 1, following
the pattern 1v4 + 2v3, 1v3 + 2v4, 1v2 + 3v4. This
will give a little extra encouragement to get first place
as that team will likely get a nice ego boost to start Round 2.
See you all at ACL!

Are maps pre-set? or what?.. Do we have to announce player 1, 2, 3 etc.. and ace at the time if required?..
When I announce the days for Week 1's match, I'll include with it a map list, each team will send me the 4 players they are sending on the 4 maps and ace will be decided on the day if needed.

we'll get to know who we'll be playing in advance right? like a week in advance or a day?
The plan is to have the lineups announced ~72 hours before the match. In the rules I have stated that if team have not submitted their line-up in due time I will randomise it, so keep that in mind friends

Any players changing or joining teams during the season will not be allowed to play for the week of their acquisition. (e.g. A player that joins Sept 7th may not play in the Sept 8th/10th match that their team is scheduled for, but may participate in matches for future weeks.
This seems to suggest that the new members of x5 will have to be benched for 1 match before they are permitted to play. As x5 have only 1 match remaining in the finals, they will not be able to field the new members of the team until the next season of the SSTL.....
Please discuss, I think this is a contentious issue and input for Nama and Swarm to make an informed decision is appropriate.
They don't have to be bench for 1 week, they just have to be benched the week they join. Which actually makes no sense because you submit your rosters before the week starts and so they actually couldn't play any ways.

Yeah, I don't think the rules really accommodate for new additions to a team during the playoffs.
I'd support a rule that rosters are locked before the start of the play offs. Nothing directed towards x5, but the regular season teams work out their opposition and the best part of the playoffs is seeing the prepared builds implemented to snipe individuals from the roster based on the 1st and 2nd round matches.
There is a distinct advantage being provided to any team that then changes their roster significantly that now has players that have not been prepared for or a roster that is so vast that there are too many individuals to prepare for.
My proposed changes to this season and future seasons of SSTL are:
1) Team rosters are locked after their final match of round 2
2) Team rosters are capped at a maximum number of members (eg 12 players for their overall roster).
3) Additions during playoffs are case by case basis (eg if a team with a small roster loses players then new members can be added, but the total of players should remain the same)..
