I don't know what volunteer jobs are actually available and what you'll be doing, but if someone joins to help setup and pack up and you get entry into the venue than that's awesome.
Helping out eSports by assisting the event AND you get to watch AND you'll probably spend some time/meet with the illustrious tastosis. but i don't know, just my opinion.

So i don't see a problem with this. I think There is a LOT of set up going to be needed

TL;DR Volunteering is good. do it

Quick Comments
 iMSystem:
Not saying it's bad. I do a **** ton of volunteering for SEA stuff. Just saying that it is a clever move :)
 breadfan:
You, sir, are correct. Also handsome.

This is something that resonates quite a lot with me and I totally agree - I have a friend who volunteered for NASL/WCS as a game supervisor - got to hang out with Huk all day, along with other pros and big names like that. Got in to the after-party as well, along with a bunch of other things that made me mega jelly. So helping out even in a small amount is not only great for the event, but great for esports and yourself possibly too.

I'm hoping that something can be worked out with all of this; perhaps a reflex-action barcraft can be setup somewhere, I really would love to say that my fellow aussies were able to set aside some discontent about it all (which I totally understand don't get me wrong) and not be "all r/starcraft" and get crazy about it. Lets just try and figure out a way so that everyone can have a fun environment to watch the event in. It perhaps won't be as amazing as being at the venue; but if you're all passionate fans I'm sure a lot of fun can be had regardless of the situation.

Hey, I'm going to quickly tell you about how pissed off I am that you can say that.

You don't know me. There's only a handful of people on this site that know me, but I lurk the forums and follow the scene.

At ACL Sydney, I gave my entire weekend to help out. You know what I got for my efforts? Nothing! Did I expect anything? Of course not, I did it because I love ACL and seeing hundreds enjoy an event that I am a part of is an awesome feeling.

Getting to Sydney was easy enough as I live there, but I did the same thing for ACL Melbourne. I'm only a uni student so I don't have much money to throw around, but I scraped together $600-700 to pay for the trip to spend the entire weekend setting up, bouncing between different roles, managing streams + PCs, packing up etc. Again, I got nothing in return, except I left with an awesome memory of the experience and a huge feeling of satisfaction as again, hundreds of people packed in to the event and had (IMO) an awesome time.

Now, no-one forced me to volunteer. I have staffed twice at ACL events and am now putting in time between events. I'm also going to be staff at WCS for almost the entire weekend. I have not and probably never will receive any reward for my efforts, but I don't expect one.

Reading that shit that you posted just makes me angry that I put in a huge effort and people can still be hugely unappreciative.

Edit: Just to clarify this is entirely my own opinion and thoughts, and does not represent ACL in any way.

whether ur pissed off or not - this is not a way to respond.. I don't agree with either side
 VB_WhiplashJC:
He's joking mate
 Cyanide:
regardless, no need for name calling
 Flamga:
In respones to System I agree, however also with loach I dont want this to turn into a rage thread :(
 breadfan:
This is a fair statement, but as an ACL guy, maybe recognise System was quite frustrated when he made this joke.
