whoa dox finishes #3rd in PDU then proceeds to beat the Melbourne champion Westley with random no less. Pretty amazing.

how did you guys find the swiss format? it looks interesting maybe we can do that for some of the future SC2EA tournaments what do u think?
and how come Sydney had the traditional DE bracket?

And is Zenaku @brisbane who i think he is?

Just to clarify,

Zenaku != Zanooku.

Zenaku is a skilled quake-live player who's just started SC2 (not sure of his other gaming exploits) and seems to be doing pretty well. It's just unlucky that he has a similar name to our notorious friend.

Had a chat with him on the day (he was sporting a Zelda shirt!) cool guy, hope he keeps playing and turns up to more events.

Swiss bracket is decent for qualifiers and everyone gets to play a ton type things like the regional qualifiers. For serious competitions I think everyone would agree it has far too much going against it to make it legitimate.

Sydney was different format as it was actually City Hunters comp and ACL is just using their rankings as their ACL qualifier, similar to how ACL did last time with Adelaide.

Problem with Swiss bracket is that it needs too many rounds to actually level out properly. With the 6 rounds we did play, there were still quite a few ties and players that seemed like they were in the wrong positions.

For Del :P

imo the Swiss bracket is pretty good, but it's a hella confusing and there are too many tiebreakers.
I think it's good in a way that nobody gets kicked out and still have a better chance than losing the first game then losing in the losers bracket,
It gets everyone playing too, so players don't leave in the middle of the tournament just because they got knocked out.

I'm gonna be seeking feedback on the Swiss format before we run our next Regionals (3 months away), but for the most part, I think the real issue stands with Challonge. It's not logically matching people in some cases, causing more ties rather than resolving them. If we continue with Swiss, we may just have to run it by hand to ensure players are being matched appropriately.

But for now, we've got the Online Round 3 next weekend, and ACL Sydney in less than a month! Woop woop!

EDIT: I've also calculated the points from the BNE/MEL Regionals, just waiting on Chris to send me the definitive results from Sydney so I can do those, and then I'll publish the standings.

Sunday was a fun day.

Not a great turnout in Melbourne, only 16 players. Bit disappointing considering we had 350 or so at the recent barcraft. Might be due to $25 being on the higher side of entrance fees, or not enough advertising? I know Perth, SA, etc have good state/community social online groups for news, etc. Does Melb?

Pc's were also pretty laggy, which hadn't really been a problem in the past at the venue in my experience. Not sure why this time.

Great time with those who turned up anyway.

Turnouts in Bris + Syd were great! Nice work ACL.

After 6 rounds in Melbourne, things lined up pretty well i'd think. Some could have moved up or down 1 spot, but more or less where i'd expect people to have ended up.

Swiss great for regional events, especially for casual players. Keeps people at the venue.
