Still very disapointed in my play recently not sure i am going to continue doing practice as i havent been getting results.
Are you sure? I have quite often found that when I improve something, I seem to play "worse", before improving again.
As an example...
When I was in about silver, I was pretty good at not getting supply blocked, and the reason was I overbuilt depots wayyyy too much. As a result, I was delayed on just about everything, but that didn't stop me from winning - my silver opponents were all making enough mistakes that I could come out on top. Around the time I got into gold, I had a coaching session that highlighted the mistake, and I really focused on getting them at the right time, instead of all the time. After that I was constantly getting supply blocked and I had a really bad slump when I tanked right down, but then it picked up again once I got developed the habit a bit better.
So the point is, when you develop bad habits, and practice them enough, it can sometimes mean you have to take a step back before you can go forward.
Actually wait this is Tier 5! The more love the better and since I had started it, I might as well finish. So here's my review of last week!
Last week saw Round 9 of Tier 5 take place with the Mixed Lollies taking the bye with their eyes on TA, Perth and Zerocraft in the battle at the top of the table.
Looking at the table and at the predictions from Volition, most of the match ups were looking very close and would have huge implication on where each team's final position on the ladder would be in a few weeks time. With the playoff having being confirmed for the top 5 teams, everything is still left to play for!
Both sides are chasing both the 1st place at the end of the regular system and playoff dreams, so this was probably the most anticipated match of the round! Perth decided to use Head as their ace, instead of the MrCrow, probably in an effort to try and mess up any attempt by Perth to snipe their Zerg who I had the privileged of playing a few weeks back, great player!
MrCrow was able to take down Tier 5's favourite reporter Volition, in what must of been a great set of matches. Unfortunately Head though could not take down spaZzNx which gained two huge points for Zerocraft.
But Perth's gold level players were in fine form tonight, with Frisco and telfiri able to beat SmokyMcPot and captain Arnor 2-0, to mean Perth could at worst draw.
That left it all down to unthunder vs Rythos in the dreaded PvP matchup. Looking at the final score, I am sure these were fantastic matches, but it was Rythos who managed to take the 2-1 win and mean that both sides ended with 3 points for the night and draw overall! Well played!
This match on paper was another close one, with both sides hovering mid table, desperate to achieve a top 5 result for the season. The match started with ThePandarine, in all his Panda glory, taking on the captain of rezyn in a TvT. ToR's Panda was able to take the match 2-0 which is probably what fired up rezyn to get revenge the very next night in the Bronze/Silver open, reversing the score in the semi finals.
Next we had the battle of the golds, with a ZvZ between UglyMutt and MrBadass, and a PvZ between HuaJooPark and Welshy. I am a bit of fan of Welshy, having played against him or seen him play a fellow slug in a few BSG's and in Round 1. But he had a tough ask playing the newly recruited HuaJooPark and playing a matchup he says he doesn't feel is his strongest. Both UglyMutt and HuaJooPark were able to take the games for ToR, giving them an early 3-0 lead.
The final two games saw Echo take down deadpxiel 2-0, in what would of been a tough game for deadpixel, having to fight a league above. And finally the ace match between Deathsfang and salsaVISION in a level ZvT. Both these guys are fantastic players and I was very surprised to see a 2-0 result. Unfortunately for FaDe this also went to ToR, giving ToR an amazing 6-0 victory. FaDe have had some really unfortunate results so far, they are a great side but sometimes it just isn't your day.. I bet rezyn is wondering when it will be!
This was always going to be a hard match for VB, against the high flying TA, however it was definitely not out of their reach!
And VB started in a very positive way, with their silver players Zeffrin and VBPotthead managed to win 2-0 over TARogue and TABag. Without having seen the games it hard to know how these went down, but Ive been impressed by the level of all players, regardless of their league, so I doubt these were very one sided.
After this though TA showed why they are the top team on the ladder. VBStokez and TAhackdz played out a level PvZ and went to 3 matches. TA couldnt afford to lose one more match up and hackdz came through with the win!
TAminimat was able to beat mabraham 2-0 in a tough match for mabraham. Its always hard both mentally and mechanically play someone who is in a higher league then you. But the important thing is to use it to learn where you need to go to get promoted and remember to take away the good points of your play.
Finally we came to the ace match, with the sides locked at 2-2! There would be no draw, one side would take the glory and it was up to the insane to try and take down TABreylin to get VB the upset win.
Playing a random is always stressful, especially a good one, as you don't know exactly what build to do and what you have to be careful for until you scout. Of course on the other hand your opponent has to be good at 9 different matchups overall, so you just hope they get they aren't good at the ones vs your race. It looks like it was a very close battle (although I'd love to know what TABreylin got in each game). However TA's class in the end showed, with TABreylin able to take it out 2-1 and get the win for TA. VB should be very proud of their efforts this week, to give TA a scare is no easy feat and they can build on this momentum in the last two rounds.
TCP have had a really horrible run so far this season and are a much better team then their position on the ladder indicates. Meanwhile QED Krn are mid table, in with a shot of the top 5 and the playoffs and were the favoured team going into the match. They also managed to put down an impressive team on paper, with two and a , with TCP only have two s.
But we start the round with the heroes of Tier 5, the //s! The first two matches saw a ZvP between QEDHorse and madoryung and a ZvT between captain Krn and galabo. TCP were able to take both those games, showing their depth in the lower leagues. Krn was impressive though managing to make it a 1-2 against a player a league above.
Games 3 and 4 though looked favoured on paper to QED, with toybox v Deathwing and everyones favourite dinner Schnitzel v fenix. In the end it actually turned out as predicted, with both QED players taking the victory 2-0 but that again meant we were tied 2-2 going into the ace match!
QED had put their hopes in QEDJenkins, whilst navic, who I am a big fan of, was TCP's great hope for an epic PvZ. And in turned out to be epic, with a 3rd match require to see who would take the victory in Round 9. And it was navic and TCP who got the win, their first of the season, to finally remind everyone of the caliber of their team.
Team HoH 2 v 4 Fusion Slugs Rythmatik 2 <<Match 1>> 1 Zomgrofl HGYsecurity 2 <<Match 2>> 1 Dele HoHdougolas 1 <<Match 3>> 2 Nevar CLSmooth 1 <<Match 4>> 2 Bonik Venom 1 <<Ace Match>> 2 BenAD
My slugs were feeling very confident this week, having broken through for our first victory of the season last week, but HoH are a great team and we knew it would be a huge battle. And it turned out to be that way, with every match going 2-1!
The first match saw a TvZ between Rythmatik and Zomgrofl. Zomgrofl started with us at and has improved a lot this season and he has played a lot of games for us. Unfortunately this week wasn't to be one of his amazing victories, with Rythmatik being too strong.
The next match was another ZvT with last minute signup HGYsecurity against the player on the slugs with the best win rate in Dele. This was going to be a tough match for Dele, playing a , but he showed why he has taken many wins this season with a great effort. It wasn't enough to win the match, but the 2-1 result should build a lot of confidence.
This meant HoH were up 2-0, but with all the rest of the matches being dead even in terms of league, it was anyones game still. Next up was captain HoHDouglas vs Nevar in a TvZ... again... Nevar has had some real tough luck this season. In fact this was the first time he had actually faced someone who was not a league higher then himself. And his hard work finally payed off, getting a 2-1 victory!
Now it was up to the s of each team. CLSmooth and Venom vs Bonik and BenAD. All four players have been the sole high league players for their teams and have had with that, share the responsibility for all the ace matches and try and steal wins for their team. It was therefore fitting that they would all face off to seal the fate of the round.
In yet another ZvT, CLSmooth and Bonik faced off. Bonik said he favoured a Thor style against the Zerg and it seems CLSmooth adapted to it quite well to force a 3rd game. However in the end Bonik was able to take the win and level the match at 2-2 for both teams. Again the ace match was the key.
So it was up to me and Venom.. I have a huge respect for Venom's play and you have probably already read the posts by him and myself and see the cast. If not go to www.twitch.tv/venom2142.
The first game was Venom doing a 4 gate and I was trying a 3 gate robo... I haven't had much experience holding a 4 gate, but I thought i was doing alright with my sentry count and an immortal ready to go (if I had bloody clicked it!). But I missed a forcefield slightly, some zealots snuck up and he was able to warp in on high ground. GG.
The second game I decided to copy him and go for a 4 gate. Venom was going to 2 gate proxy but bailed out mid game, which meant he was slightly behind. So he went for fast blink, but didnt have the sentry out in time to block the ramp and that was that, 1-1.
The final game was tense. We both 4 gated, but Venom's was better and he was able to pick off some stalkers before getting to my base. But he waited for a warp in instead of walking up the ramp. As my 4 gate was a bit slower due to more workers, this allowed me to warp in enough to hold him at the ramp. If he went up at that point i was dead, it was GG. But he didn't and he didn't see my pylon in his natural. So i started warping a zealot or two every cycle and harassing his base. Venom didn't pull back and by the time he realised he had to kill me because his base was in trouble, i had the sentries to easily hold it. Meanwhile zealots were killing probes. He pulled back and dealt with it, but I was so far ahead, that I was able to pull out the win and give the Slugs a second win!
It is sad to see Venom so down on himself about the game, he is an awesome player, but only lost due to some split second decisions. Don't give up mate! You are a great player. It will come you deserved to win last week.
Anyway and thatch it for my writeup... wow that was long... I didn't mean to do that.. But I hope it was interesting. ♥ Tier 5!

Reason: spelling/grammar... probably more :P
Are there any news on the final matchups for the other three matches? Are we still waiting on any team to submit or you guys just really busy (which I can understand, a lot going on just recently for you both!)
OMG BenAD that is a great writeup. The apprentice has become the master. If the slugs stay in tier 5 next season, you gotta do the write-ups, that one was fantastic!

Wow that was a big cluster..... you know the rest!
We had 3 no shows from QED until 8.50pm... And Fridge was a no show altogether. The report is, he is sick, so I hope its not serious. But he definitely did not let me or the admins know, unlike what other people in QED told me.
Thankyou so much to the slugs for sticking around 50mins to start some of your games... I kind of wish i rescheduled mine, I was so tired and played the worst games of starcraft I have ever done. I feel really bad about representing the team that way... To show you how bad, I built my pylon in both games after 10 supply and had enough for a gateway (with a queued probe) by the time it finished... urgh!
So naturally I got roflstomped lol.
Still I dont think I am willing to wait that long again.. Guys please we can reschedule games, but lets us know what is going on. To have 3 players 50mins late or no shows at all is really frustrating. I don't get many nights to stay up late and play some starcraft. (
It also makes the admins life easier too. Post your lineups correctly... We only have one week, lets make ti the best one yet.
