Honestly, i love the way the planning of teams adds to the dynamincs of the match, but I don't think you lose that. I honestly think a Bo5 is better than a blind pick tiebreaker for all involved.
I'm with keeping the ace match but not sold on adding an extra game for the sake of teams with smaller or unreliable lineups.
As Chad said the Ace gives an element of planning and game-sniping to the captains... if the games were played in league order without the current "Ace" match as a literal ace, the diamonds would always go last. In the example Chad gave, this would mean our Diamond Zerg entered a matchup which his opponent dominated. By having the ability to have the ace as any league (when your opponent is likely to put their strongest there) you can snipe it like we did.
So TLR - I vote keep the ace format, however we need some form of input from all captains to see if they think an extra match is feasible (for TA I say yes it is).

With the extra match - if teams legitimately can't find another player for the finals (I don't know who wouldn't want to play in finals) then we may allow a player to play twice...
i maintain my position that ties in finals series should be resolved with a Bo3 2v2 match.
Screw it, why not? Whenever these overly complicated systems come in, it always makes me think of that scene in Baseketball where the commentators are trying to explain to the TV viewers how each of the East/West etc divisions work, and then if none of the results work out they have Sack races on consecutive Sundays to make the determination. Seems pretty solid
Tier 5 reminds me of Baseketball a little, a competition with lots of sledging, and the fans love it.

Nobody else has a chance if ToR qualify - we are the masters of the psych out
The ace match should be worth 1 point per set.
That way you can win with three 1 point games and taking one map in the ace. Will prevent most draws but but not all. Additionally it will make it easier to prepare a sniper since the ace player only needs to win one map to contribute to his team.
