Following Arena Internet Cafe's previous successful tournaments (#1, #2, #3, #4 we are happy to announce our 5th open tournament for the South Australian SC2 community.
Information
Date: Saturday, April 14, tournament will start at midday. (inb4 tazenernix shows up at 6am to start practicing)
Location: Arena Internet Cafe, 264-268 Rundle Street, Adelaide SA 5000 (in between Al Fresco and Piatto)
Entry fee: $15 (spectating is free of course)
There are no league restrictions, players of any skill can join.
The tournament will be played on the South East Asian server.
Tournament format: Double Elimination, Best Of 3 (2x Bo3 for grand final)
The map pool will be: Metropolis LE (Blizzard), GSL Daybreak (HemLocK), GSL_Entombed Valley (SungInSPR), GSL_Antiga Shipyard (Rain) and Cloud Kingdom LE (Blizzard)
Each player will veto one map from the map pool and then flip a coin/rock paper scissor/decide amongst themselves for first map choice. Loser of each game picks the next map.
Prizes
1st place: $100
2nd place: TBA (will be hardware, headset or something like that)
We will also be doing raffle prizes for spectators and players, mostly in the form of goodies from the events sponsors (keyboards, mousepads, maybe a headset, etc).
Other information
Players will be allowed to bring their own equipment (mouse, mousepad, keyboard, headset etc). The computers are more than capable of running StarCraft II at it's highest settings. The monitors are very large (27"), but it may be possible to use smaller monitors if required.
There will be at least 20 PCs dedicated to running the tournament, players will need to report their results immediately once they are finished and they will be told to either pack up for someone else to use the PC or to stay to play another game. We are aiming for as little downtime as possible, so this is imperative to the smooth running of the tournament.
Also for those of you that were at previous events, we're possibly going to just use the back room, as the two rooms that were previously full of shit and not used for anything are now cleaned up, wait and see though!
If you have any inquiries please post in this thread, email me at marconofrio1@gmail.com, or message me in game at FXOfrequency.299 (NA, SEA and KR)
get prizes up to 1k+++ and i ll be celebrating my birthday in adelaide!
Yeah I really wanna go back to Radelaide too. If the prize pool got a bit of a bump i might be able to justify it, assuming a flights nice n cheap ahead of time
Hmmm last time i didnt even have a PC till 3 days beforehand. This time i have one but shit net that makes Sc2 unplayable, i'll be happy to win a game lol :P
Yo Frequency. Haven't been playing much SC2 lately, but I just saw this tourney thread. Is there still room at the LAN? I might be able to come if so Always good fun

So probably gonna have a little break when pizzas arrive (for people to eat, me to clean up/set up final rounds), then power through to the end of the tournament.

Also, with this week being our tournament, and in two weeks time being the NaZ tournament, would anyone be interested in having the inbetween week (20, 21 or 22) having a fun LAN, playing custom maps like Phantom, Marine Arena, Monobattles etc etc? We'll have some giveaway prizes and stuff as well. Let me know what you think.
If its fri/sat I'm keen to check it out....Or rock up and drag someone to a pub either or
How did the prizepool get so big last time?? Was good to attract the gun interstate players also predicting the Protoss brotherhood of Champi/BiGbiRd to run amok

Cos Thanh wanted to have a bigger prize pool to see what the interest would be like from interstate people.
Probably won't have another like that, and if we do, it will be in a long time. For the moment we just want to have a strong base of people (~30 regulars every tournament), and if the interest is there we can make this a monthly thing.
Ahhk cool, if it happened monthly i would probably try head down for every event. Maybe have a bigger prizepool one once or twice a year then like late last year to attract the PiG, Iaguz, tgun etc's every now and again to increase exposure and heighten the level of play = more viewers on stream etc etc
Went to Arena today. Thanh said that after this one the next one will be a GM tourney again but only if moonglade comes, so everyone make sure you spam him to come to the next one
I would love to go, just wondering though, I am in high diamond league, would it be worth entering or would i get rofl stomped first round?
You'll do fine depending on the draw, and it's double elimination so you will have more than one chance. There will certainly be less than diamond level players there, and it's very fun to just go anyway.

Come along man, theres lots of <Diamond players, and even if you get knocked out you can still chat/watch/play (if the tournaments slowing down) afterwards. Also free Red Bull and maybe free pizza :P

And yeah, I was at Arena tonight to watch GSTL (ohhhhhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiet) and Thanh said he wants to have another ~$1000 tournament. Looking at around May, probably a little later than that though.

I'm better at casting than playing (or so I've been told) keen as mustard to cast with you friend.
Going to be going in on probably Wednesday with Flamga to test how well the streaming will work. If some people wanna come to play some games you're more than welcome.
I hope someone gets mad after getting cheesed and takes an entire pizzas topping and assaults the cheeser with it. If this happens someone must record!
