I was going to suggest one of these! I'm totally down
Can I suggest so that everyone has a crack at playing a few games, we have a group stage, followed by a double elim bracket just like many other tourneys use
If the groups are split into somewhat similar skill divisions, it could be like
A - GM/M
B - M
C - M/D
D - D/P
E - P
F - G
G - B/S/G
H - B/S
Then, once people advance, pair winner of group A vs Runner up Grp E, etc
That way, even though the plat player who advances probably gets knocked down by a GM, he goes into the loser's bracket and gets the chance to play on.
Doing this, it's just one tournament (which I think is better, I dont like the idea of splitting into different comps just so lower league people have a better chance to win prizes - get people motivated to improve!)
It's great for team building, there's the chance to play people far above your skill level (good practice and maybe cause an upset or two) and it gives everyone at least a few matches
Don't really see the point of a tournament where the games get worse as you go along. It's basically guaranteed that the winner of Group A wins the tournament with that format.
If you really want a format where the players are sorted by skill and everyone still gets to play a bunch of games, do a swiss tournament.
In any case, the lower masters/diamond players still only get to play their group games with your format, so if half the people still get that, why not spread the good players out?
Not necessarily, you could pair the brackets however you like to avoid that. So all Diamond-GM players basically play all the way through on one half of the tree, while Bronze-Plat all play all the way through on the other half. Then just the winners- and losers-bracket finals have disparity. I guess the point is it can be tweaked for whatever you want to make it, since it's in house after all. In saying that, I have enjoyed Swiss bracket tournaments before
On another slightly related note, I was going to suggest we could have a small mini tournament on a weekly basis for our Tier 5 SEAL team to pick who gets to ace spot for the week, as long as it will be optional
