Macro Buttons on Mouse - Whats Allowed

So, finally got myself a new mouse (Razer Imperator) and have "googled" the hell out of what you can do with the macro buttons. There are some serious advantages to some of the macros you can do, but in short, it would appear that assigning any more than a single action to a button is against Blizzards rules.

So... to get the most out of the mouse, and not risking a ban from blizzard what can you do with the macro buttons. Is there any more than just mapping a single button...?

Whats the best thing to map to them?

From what I recall, executing more than one function with a single action is against the rules for Starcraft 2.
If you made them location hotkeys then that's really the best thing I could think of.
I have the Naga and in all honesty the keyboard is quicker and more precise.

I do use my Naga for WoW though, helps with harder to reach buttons on keyboard, things like 7 to =.

Keep in mind that any LAN tournaments you enter would object to multi-function macros.

Well I think what's against the rules is lets say assigning those extra buttons to do something like 4 -> S when you're playing lets say Terran and you hotkey your CC to 4 and you want to build an SCV so you just have to press 1 button to do that. But you could set that button to press 4 alone or S alone if you want to afaik.

Camera Locations are pretty sweet, other than that I use my side buttons for push to talk.

I have a Sensai and currently use the two left side buttons as 9 and 0 which is generally Upgrade buildings and important buildings (Tech lab researching Stim and so on)

Right side buttons are for Camera Locations.

Good to have something like that but be careful that certain mice need the driver programs running to work with the custom button configurations, and if you get used to using the buttons like so, and you head off to a LAN, you might find yourself in a bad position

I am yet to hotkey cammera locations... just spam the buildings that are hotkeyed (Nexas on 2, Gates on 3, Robo 4 etc etc) and go from there.

Something I should look into I guess.... will have a play.

Was thinking of setting up a macro to "JUST GO KILL THE MOFO"... my programming isnt that good but.

u know that if u place ur thumb on the 0 u can hit any key up to s pretty easily. macro keys are a waist of time imo spread out ur fingers on ur keyboard hand and ushould be fine just takes practise alternatibely u could just rebind some keys to the right side of the keyboard to better utalise it but yeahe keep the mouse hand for actively doing things and the keyboardd hand for auto matic actions if that m,akes sense dont mix them tise a waste of time.

Yeah I think you are right... the more complicated you try to make it the slower I tend to be in game which isnt really the desired effect.

I am used to the hotkeys on the keyboard which is much faster then the macro keys on my mouse. In hind sight I think I could have looked for a mouse without the additional macro keys but saw this one and it felt good.

It is interesting to see what everyone else does with these keys....

simplicity is the key to success more often than not if u have a solid foundation rather than trying to be clever you will show more solid growth and development in ur play.

Are macro buttons allowed in sc2? I remember reading something about macros not being allowed on the blizzard site sometime ago (apparently one function on the key is okay, but more than that and it is bannable). But then the fun of starcraft is the macro-micro bit, so personally I dont see any value in macro buttons.

Yeah you would be right... but still the buttons can be used for single actions. It is interesting to see that everyone has different uses for them. I like the suggestion above and map your observer hotkeys to it so you can easly use them for scouting.... I think this may be the winner for me so far.
