I've already tested a previous beta and i really enjoyed it =) I'm in this beta too and im looking forward to see what changes have been implemented.
I also have the game on preorder haha
Downloaded the client overnight. Took a while. Just finished before I had to leave for work.
Looking forward to putting in a few hours.
Where do I go to download it? I mean I followed the link, downloaded the 24mb 'client' - it then tells me I need 20gb free space... installs.. comes up with a login screen and then doesn't download anything ;3
You need to login first, then it starts the 20Gb download. Actually, it fails login first and gets you to set up five(!!!) security questions, then you try to login and it asks you one of the security questions you just created, then it will let you download the client.
So in a nutshell (for those asking), SWTOR is a cross between WoW and Mass Effect (although it is more like other MMO's than WoW). Bioware has built in the '4th MMO pillar' of Story. The whole game is fully voice acted from fed-ex quests (which don't feel very fed-exy) through to story driven Flashpoints and Operations (instanced dungeons).
The story itself is very KOTORy in that it is set 300ish year after KOTOR. From the 20 level I played it wasn't very clichey, but was definitely star wars.
There are 8 base classes, 4 republic and 4 sith. Each has it's own unique class stroyline and each has 2 advanced classes. Recently in an interview the Bioware CEO's said that if you were to quit your days job to play SWTOR it would take you 10 months to get through every class story once. That doesn't include the flashpoints/ops or group content, PvP or repeatable stuff.
As another indicator of size, BW has said that SWTOR is larger in content size than all other BW games put together.

That's interesting. There are people who work full-time and play 'full-time' (ie. 40 hours a week). I do wonder how many people would be bothered wanting to go through all of the classes?

It's less about wanting to and more about 'needing to'
When I tested I played all 4 republic classes. I had some strong views about the classes I would like an the ones I wouldn't, but I seriously liked them all. Each had different enough mechanics that had good overall utility that each was just different and fun.
In terms of story, that is what really sucked me in the most. All I wanted to do was find out what happened next for each. Each story was incredibly unique, even though the starting zones were shared with 1 other class, and each story was super Star Warsy.
For me, even though I'll be playing a Jedi Guardian, the two most interesting (and less predictable) stories at the start were the Trooper and then the Smuggler. As a class, I already know I have zero interest in the Smuggler, but I will play through it just to see where the story goes.
I've no interest in being a Sith either, but I know I'll play just to see the stories.

We'll see where I fit in. 4-5 years ago, when I had more time, I would have definitely been in the position you describe. At the moment I've got a currently untouched copy of Mass Effect 2 waiting for me to play at some point. That being said, this may actually be the MMO to finally keep my interest.
So after 2 days of the beta, I've become adamant about a couple of things...
1) I must have this game.
2) I am very angry at Bioware for not doing an Oceanic release.
3) I must download this game or purchase it from somewhere.
4) It is possibly the most fun I've had in an MMO in years.
I'll explain point 4 though. As was explained earlier in the topic, Bioware has added the fourth pillar to it's MMORPG... 'story telling'... I'm the kind of guy that will look at a game and if it doesn't have a decent story, I won't actually continue playing it.. Bioware took what I loved about KOTOR and what I loved about ME and combined them into an effective medium for their story telling.. I feel as though I am attached to this character I've created this weekend and that is something very difficult for me to do in an MMO (let alone a beta).
I haven't touched an MMO since DCUO earlier this year (I admit, I enjoyed playing that with friends).. but this just kicks the crap out of that game.
I have a couple of issues though, particularly with travelling and travel speeds. You don't get your first movement speed upgrade until level 14, and then it is only +35% (should be + 50% imo).
My companion glitches occasionally, and that is really annoying.
When I alt-tab (I play windowed mode).. my game goes all weird and does some stupid stuff when I go back into the game world.

I loved the story so far. Being able to sass everyone is awesome. Although I'm a little vain and I want my qtpie Twi'leck to remain free of any deformities (doing evil deeds scars your face, get the red sith eyes and whatnot).
I was told there were invading sith running around but I couldn't find any, people were cheering at having won the battle though. Dear god I loved back-chatting everyone...
considering it is in the beta, it played fantastic.
Games rarely keep my interest for long these days and I swore I'd never play another MMO. I cannot wait for this to go live. I must have it.
I got into the beta this weekend, haven't been able to play much but OMG its a very good game, the PVP is still being worked on to be expected but the levelling is the most fun I'e ever had in an MMO, and I HATE levelling. The story is so rich its amazing.
I will however be praying that the endgame content is just as good so it can hook me in

Quoted for TRUTH! agree in every part, however its to be expected no oceanic servers, bandwidth just costs too much for it to be viable QQ

This happens to me too, i assume it will be fixed by release with drivers etc
Aha, I remember when I was talking to you about TOR when we went out to lunch with Andy and Kelly that time.. who knew that the game would actually be this solid!
I mean, the mechanics in the game work a lot like WoW (with cover and ranged tanks I'm sure we'll see a lot of variations in the future though)... but I only see that as a good thing (it's easy to pick up and play if your character isn't doing weird stuff right off the bat).
The story is so immersive though, I got up early to play Saturday morning.. and all of a sudden it was 12am Sunday and I was like 'wtf where did my day go'. They also did a great job making their decisions tough to make (I was tempted to make Darkside choices even though I was playing a LS character). Their first flashpoints were also very fun (imo the Republic one was better, but the Empire had its moments).
I think it is a must try.. Now to find a place to pre-order!

Yay! I've been accepted into the last beta. We'll see how long this one goes for, but I'll have to give it a proper crack this time, as opposed to about an hour over two characters. >.<

theres another beta? nooooooooooo i pray that my old account gets in too >.< when is the final weekend stress test?
Pre-ordered from amazon.com.. they gave me my preorder code but no game code.. so my guess is we may get early access... but I'm uncertain because they didn't give me my game code, just the preorder one. :S

Hahaha and arent they saying that it will not be delivered now until after the 25th december? So you can play for 5 days before and then not play until you recieve the game? or can you keep using the early game code until you get your full code?
