After great deliberation (was thinking about this all night and morning!) I have decided to exclude Masters League players for this first season of the Community Ladder.
The key reason was that after exclusion of the Masters League applicants, the participant numbers very nicely tallied to 20. Other reasons of course include the subjectiveness of the decision that I feel uncomfortable doing, etc. So rather than deliberate whether 40% WR is sufficient to include or a 45% WR, the easier way would just to exclude all Masters players.
I always hate rejecting people and I apologize for this situation, perhaps you can suggest ways in which I can include Masters League participants without toppling the balance of the ladder too much next season?
Nevertheless, I have placed you guys under the Waiting List, and if anyone falls out of the tournament for whatever reason (MIA, etc), I will slot you in, assuming there are no other non-Masters League players on the waiting list.
For the participants/those who still want to participate!
Confirmed participants have already been updated in the OP, those without Skype please do provide! Frogmite, Blaze, Rhubaarb!
And if you still want to sign up, STILL LEAVE YOUR DETAILS HERE because we do have a few forum lurkers in the signups and I'm not sure if they will actually follow through with their games.
I've already generated the fixture list and will be creating a separate thread shortly, once I figure out how to draw a decent table. The event will commence as soon as that happens! I will send out a PM to all participants too so don't worry!
I didn't play in season 2, that was Mafia. He had like 4-5 accounts top GM and was sick of 20+ minute queues. I gave him my account and he did what he did.
I've only just started playing again and I'm stuck in platinum. I can't deal with all this early aggression!
@zerggirl I'm just kidding around with you ! go dominate!
@Dox
Want to join the waiting list? lol.
@all the lovely people who offered to admin
I don't think this is necessary, because most of it is left to the participants to settle - the arranging of games, etc. This is actually to encourage greater interaction among players! You can always chat and practice games with your opponents after your ladder game

Same as how Dox can't offrace and take part in BSG tournaments, I have to say no
I'm thinking about how to include you guys in the next season, help me think too!
btw if another BSGPD participant still wants in, you can take my place, I don't mind foregoing this round. I only included myself to make up the 20 player number
Nah, this will be interesting. Yeah, I'll get stomped in a bunch of matches, but I don't mind too much. I'll get to see a larger variety of opponents.
Oh, and I'm gunning for you now Erasmus. Hopefully I'm not promoted to silver before I beat you.
I fully support the 'getting stomped hardcore' school of learning. But we have BSG leagues and such because it can get depressing if it happens a lot. I don't mind this being another one of the community events where it's open, but in that case it shouldn't exclude masters.
I don't think bronze vs. diamond is too much more 'fair' than bronze vs. masters, really, is all I'm meaning.
and bring it... if you take the game, that would be pretty awesome.
I am probably completely misrepresenting crAzerk, but as far as I see it 'high'-Masters players, whatever that actually means are essentially equivalent to GMs, there's just not any free spaces. The trick is where's the fuzzy grey area where they become 'low'-Masters that are not pushing GM status.
Of course it comes back to your point, why exclude GMs.
Regardless, I'm gonna have fun. I'm up against 1 and 2 this week.
@Erasmus
I have thought about Swiss before but decided on Round Robin because the former would result in you playing the same few people after 1-2 weeks which probably gets boring.
The point is to promote interaction between everyone, thus this format encourages that.
As for the Masters League issue, it is bound to be controversial and there's never going to be a 'right' answer.
Your point about Bronze v Diamond being the same as Bronze v Masters is correct, but missing the point. Bronze players signing up for this already know they will be at a disadvantage vs even Gold n Plat. The idea is to give the plat/diam more of a chance to win it rather than have it predictably dominated by a Masters league player.
In addition, my exclusion of them is also because of the 20player issue, being the first time such an event is being run I wanted to keep things small just to 'beta test', so to speak. If everything goes well, next season will most likely include the low Masters and have a larger player capacity!

Could you elaborate? Just Christmas day? or the entire week? Be as specific as possible so that I can plan the schedule around it if necessary.
Looks like I will be doing the family stuff from 23rd - 28th December. Not sure exactly of the set up and if the games will be done by then.... if they are all good, if not and you think it will be too much of a pain to schedule then I dont mind if you have to pull me.
I still think we should offrace :P
Since this is the beta test maybe include us this time - and if were too strong kick us out?
my Terran is about gold-plat level
my zerg is about bronze-silver.

no joke.... lol TT
In fact, when you play at masters/gm level, you have a good knowledge of the game and you know how to macro well, so whatever the race you play, i believe you will still be able to smash lower league opponents as you will completely out-macro him/her.
As much as I may want to, the Fixtures have been generated and players may have already started arranging/playing matches We have quite a few Master league participants tho, maybe I could form a separate ladder to run concurrent with this? You guys interested in that? So it would be a 8 or so size ladder just for
I've also thought of a possible solution for next season -
Beating a same ranked/lower player = 1 pt
Beating a higher ranked player = 1 + leaguedifference (Max total= 3)
So for example a gold league beats a diamond, he gets 1+2= 3
If a bronze beats a gold he still gets 3 as that's the cap
This way the lower leagues have a chance to climb the ladder by winning 'favored' opponents
