You're hosting an invitation only tournament with 10 days notice, on a day that clashes with WCG Brisbane (our last LAN qualifier, I believe), and with the announcement you've given NO information as to the invited players (I'll assume you have actually invited people...), schedule and if/where it will be broadcast.
It's also going to be at Respawn LAN, and with my previous experiences at Reloaded (Reloaded is bigger though, I think) the lag is horrible.
I'll be wishing you the best of luck.

Im with everyone here. Postpone it since it coincides with Brisbane WCG and give more notice for the invites + open tournament. Best to PM Dox and then liase with him, he will provide some great feedback to help you run the tournament smoothly and successfully. Not saying that you can't run it without him, i'm sure you could but it will be sooooo much better with his feedback and all the competitors will be much happier, turnout bigger, leading to much more happy sponsors.

Hey Nirvana just a little insight into the comp the "GIGABYTE E-Sports Championships 2011 Starcraft 2 Invitational tournament" is going to be happening a RESPAWN LAN #22 its a mutli game LAN (COD, CS, TF2, etc etc) that occurs in Melbourne, Australia probably 3-4 times a year, so GIGABYTE would have to pull their tournament from the LAN and then find a new LAN venue/event to join with (which City Hunter would be more than happy to do )
I will be trying to contact Gigabyte tomorrow to see if we can get more details and make them aware of the communities concerns with it clashing with WCG Brisbane as I believe the person posting this is simply a member of the community and not the tournament organizer

The 'ESports Daily' account here belongs to Darren Kwan as far as I know, who is the person behind ESports Daily (surprisingly) and is closely related to Team Immunity (which is running this event).
Either way, I'd imagine they wouldn't want to have it in Sydney if they can't have it in Melbourne, but I dunno

haha I was joking I know theyd probably want to still have it in Melbourne if it was to be moved but yeah no harming in putting our name forward :P
I'm a bit skeptical mainly for the reasons people have pointed out already. I also spoke to a friend who regularly attends Respawn LANs and he's said they at Respawn have had trouble getting SC2 to work in the past, alongside a couple of negative opinions about Gigabyte.
That said, if it does get going, good luck to those invited
It's sad that money is thrown intermittently at the sc2 community with little or no organisation. Tournaments with this sort of prize pool could be advertised for months ahead of time so that it could actually attract the best Australian and foreign players and produce the highest quality matches.
That being said its great to see interest in sc2. I just really wish whenever anyone decides to create a tournament, whether it have a $10 prize pool or $5000, that a telekinetic link would open between them and Dox and he would explain to them how its meant to be done.
Well on the upside, I'm sure those attending Brisbane WCG won't have to contend with Glade knocking them around as hes already qualified for the nationals and surely will go dominate this LAN instead.
I got my invite too btw, and so did the rest of xGKing for the record. Light ain't going cuz of WCG Bris and I ain't going because my large family decided that was the weekend to hold a large family gathering sort of event so I'm trapped.
A few up dates; despite the exceptionally short notice for the tournament, GIGABYTE would like to make clear that this is an invitational event, and accepting/not-accepting the invite is the choice of those players.
Additional to this the event is aimed at giving local Melbourne players a chance to enjoy a good SC2 tournament against some of Australia's top-ranked players; thus the venue choice of Respawn
I apologise for those who would have liked to attend, despite the clashing date with WCG.au Brisbane quals, and also the short notice for organising travel and accommodation.
GIGABYTE has allowed for open registration to all players who would like to attend, and as there is a limit of 32 players, the players will be picked at random (dependant on the number of responses we receive), and to fill in the gaps attendees of Respawn LAN are welcome to sign up.
Come on people! Don't be so negative! We should instead be happy that glade, targa and deth all gonna get paid without any real competition! How fun for them!
targa and JPmoney, you guys still headed down for this?
Driving out to god knows where this BYO lan is where like 500 people will attend who when they hear "5k in prizes" will all sign up and there's only 25 or so free places in the tournament...? No, I'm not going to waste my time on this joke of a tournament on the off chance im one of the lucky 5%... So unless they give out a few more reasonable invites to the better players of melbourne/vic in general and anyone else interested in traveling, I sure as shit wont be bothering.
Tournament organizers have to realise players can't get money for travel as easy as ringing somebody and yelling for money. This lack of notice and information for what is an invitational tournament and expecting a good response is laughable.

We work with what we have to work with, at the end of the day it is another nice cash prize tournament for the Australian StarCraft 2 tournament - of which takes alot of hard work to organise, prep, plan, and convince a lovely company to commit to.

With the complete lack of organisation and the short notice you aren't going to get the top of the SC2 community. You're going to get the few people who live close enough, or who are lucky enough to be able to make it. A prize pool that big, shouldn't be given out to any random joe who can actually make it in the 10 days notice that was given.
Kudos to the prize pool and the idea, but the execution was abysmal.
Going to do my best to send a player, and whilst I agree it is VERY last minute which makes is VERY difficult, the prizepool is big enough to force us to try to send someone.

Thank you very much Benji, Apologies for the short notice, I understand how difficult it can be to organise players/flights/accommodation at such short notice.

Duely noted, and as much as I would have loved to have more time to organise and inform the community about this tournament, this was not the case. At the end of the day this prize pool will be greatly eclipsed as the events continue to increase in regularity and size, so there will be plenty of opportunities for other players who could not make this tournament to have a go at other tournaments!
Once again apologies for the short notice, I am just greatful to have such a nice prize pool tournament to work with.

I just want to stress that whilst I may be able to get a player there, this won't fly next time. Do my player(s) need to email to accept invites or something? And can i get details of the event? (i assume some form of map pool, bo?, expected running time etc?)
I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy...
Just want to clarify for everyone, this is a local Melbourne tournament, that GIGABYTE have specifically stated to allow the Melbourne StarCraft 2 community a chance to play against some of the best Aussie players, with a GREAT cash prize pool.
This is not a major national, it is an invitational, and is designed to be an enjoyable experience for all competitors.
I am here with YYJ, and this is both our first times in Melbourne, last night we went out to enjoy the night life, for a few drinks and to watch the Rugby.
We stopped by the Urban Central, some cool hostel/backpackers joint with pool tables, had a few beers and games of pool while there. On our way back to our hotel over in Southbank, we got mugged. No cash, in a city we've never been to before. They busted YYJ's knee; and cause we didn't want trouble we just gave them our cash, thank **** they let us keep our mobile phones.
Bastards.
So we'll be late ourselves, trying to get to venue via a lift with star hunter (what a mad guy);
So some updates! WOOO
Map pool so far with spelling corrections (after much debate over what is fair and fun):
what time is the tourney starting? on the respawn site it has sc2 scheduled for Sunday is this correct?
probably hasnt been updated since Gigabyte took over the sc2 event and gave it sweet prizes, does it also say the prizes for sc2 are a TTesports Meka Keyboard?

I know the TTesports Meka was for the last event but now it is a Gigabyte Tournament, Respawn may have a seperate one though.
Tourney should of started around now, depending on when ESports Daily gets there, sad to hear you guys got mugged.
Mafia 2-0'd Light and progresses to finals, YYJ a game up over Rossi at the moment. The way the brackets go, Light will have to play either Starhunter, deth or Targa, and the loser of Rossi/YYJ will play Techtron, Gezza or Pinder to get top 4.
