[SG LAN] Singapore Amateur League Dec!! [$75 Prizes]
Official Promoter: Mothership Studios
Official Community Site: www.SC2SEA.com
Location Sponsor: MysteryBox, Basement 1 of Golden Wall Center
-THIS IS A SINGAPORE LAN TOURNAMENT-
Hey everyone and welcome to the first monthly, community building tournament! Most SC2 players are semi-competitive, love to talk about the game and play against new and old friends. The problem is, no one wants to join a tournament if they know they will get knocked out first round
Enter the SAL Dec! There is a list of "Pro Players" and they are recognized for their skills and NOT allowed to compete. The playing field is lowered slightly and through this, players can compete with full confidence and the next level of SC2 pros will emerge!
HUGE THANKS to MysteryBox for both sponsoring the location as well as the prizes, 3 SC2 decal SteelSeries mousepads!
This tournament is meant mainly for community building and having a ton of fun. Prizes are really your personal glory and players who get in the top 3 are promoted to the Pro Player list!
MAP: Golden Wall Centre is at the top left of the map, 5 mins walk from Bugis MRT
2) You must write your character name and code (e.g. HDPhoenix.202) in this forum or any of the forums the SAL is posted in
3) You must send an email, with your handphone number to MSS.Starcraft2@gmail.com (this is for admin purposes only)
Important Info:
1) The cost of the tournament is $0.00. All LAN Time is kindly sponsored by MysteryBox, at Basement 1 of the Golden Wall Center!
2) Date of Tournament: 28th December, Tuesday, 6pm - Midnight. Come at 5pm for registration and admin processing
3) This was the old SSL WildCard tournament. Winning this tournament no longer seeds you for the following month's SSL. Instead, the top 3 winners will be promote to "Pro Players" status and not allowed to compete in the SAL again for 3 months minimum (to let others grow and rise up too)
4) Number of competitors: 32 players. If response is good (and by SSL Nov WildCard's response, there is a good chance), I will increase the player pool to 64!
5) Tournament format is Best of 3, SINGLE ELIMINATION. The top 3 will be crowded SAL's champions and receive SC2 decal SteelSeries mouse pads as the communities' way of saying "You're not an amateur anymore. You're pro!"
6) Map Selection: First map will always be Lost Temple. After that, the player that lost gets map choice
7) CUT OFF DATES: Registration ends on 22th Dec. Brackets will be announced by 23th Dec.

Its cool bro, it is Christmas after all. I know loads of people are traveling. Just keep me informed =)
SAL IS FULL!! Thank you everyone for your support! Backup list is starting! Looking forward to seeing everyone on Dec 28th for a night of Starcraft and fun!!!
Phoenix , will we be able to save our replays and take them back? I would really like to review the matches at home , perhaps with a thumbdrive. Do you think that will be possible?

Generally, LAN shop people won't allow stranger's sticks into their slots, but I will compile a replay pack and put it up on our community site =) You might get your replays 2-3 days after the event but it'll be everyone's replay so it'll be worth the wait to watch and learn from others as well as yourself
I was wondering if you were to choose randomly using cards for the brakets and it's single elimination, what if the top 2 players meet each other in first round which is suppose to be at least a semi-finals game?
What i suggest is, brackets chosen base on their league if you're doing single elimination so that the top 2 diamond players in SAL won't face each other so fast. Imagine if the finals is one-sided, it will get bored as the standard for SAL is far compare to SSL.
Just a concern. Maybe you can clarify this with me. Thanks.

Hi Blurry,
Part of a tournament is the randomness of the brackets. Its the bane of every major league, as it can really alter the brackets as you mentioned
Having said that, SAL is meant mainly for fun and community building. I don't want to make it super serious by ranking people and seeding. I am thinking of just drawing brackets on the day itself. If you get knocked out, you are still welcome to play with everyone there and have a good time. Remember, its monthly so if you are really good, you'll surface to the top within the next few months and everyone will see your talent =)
As for two top tier players meeting each other in the early brackets, I would just take it as good training for tournament style play. Major tournaments will be exactly the same scenario so might as well get used to the stress now ^^ Its all a learning experience

I have a question. Are players allowed to change their races in the course of the tournament? Like in between the BO3 matchups or in future games?
Once you start the tournament as a particular race, you can not change races. I don't see why you would want to do that at tournament. Fundamentals of micro and macro are far more important than races =)
You're strongly encouraged to bring your own keyboard, mice, mousepad and headset, to make the LAN as comfortable for you as possible. If not, we have great peripherals for you to use
If it makes you feel any better, I just reached home, spent over 10 hours at Colosseum (awesome people btw) setting up for the SSL and my laptop (with all the bracket names) was at home... Yes yes, I know, excuses... but I am quite tired
Just to make it easier on everyone, especially myself, I will be drawing the brackets on the day itself. I still have another 2 hours of video editing to do for tomorrow and I do have a day job so as much as I would like to do brackets, I just can't find the time to do so. Sorry about that.. But looking forward to seeing you all at MysteryBox on the 28th!
My number is 8223 5807 if you need to contact me (read: You might get lost, it is quite hard to find). Show up at 5pm to warm up and settle down at your computers. Tournaments starts at 6 =)

Hey no worries. I am actually glad that brackets can be picked on the day itself. Cya there.
SAL is meant for anyone that hasn't proven himself in a LAN tournament yet in Singapore. Yes, there are still undiscovered talent and that's the purpose of the SAL, to draw these players out.
No worries, if the 'better' players win the first SAL, they can not compete in future SAL and the SAL will remain as a proving ground for other major tournaments like the SSL, Dogsi Open and Unstable's FXOpen.
SAL is tmr and I will drop you guys all a msg when to remind you. It is at Mbox, do refer to my map for the location, it can be qutie hard to find. Tournament drawings of brackets starts at 6, tournament starts at 6:30! Can't wait to see you all there and hope you all have a good game, have fun!!
After we've been knocked out , I suppose we can't use the computers for free anymore can we? ;x
No, this is not a serious tournament, it is a community building tournament so even after you are knocked out, you can still be matched against other players there and still play. The LAN time still continues. How far it continues, I'll have to ask Mbox but we'll see how it goes

It sucks when you match up against the strongest player in the tourney at the 1st round. ...
Just 1 suggestion:
We have enough computer for double eliminations, I would love to have that in the next tournament
Relax Dude. It just a small friendly competition to make us get use to the atmosphere and environment.
Mostly is about fun.
Winning is not the priority. Even if you lose, it will be better if you can learn from it and be a better player next time.
If u're meant to win, you will win no matter what.
Who was your "strongest" player?

This was the first community based tournament I have organized and I have learnt alot from it. Thanks for bearing with the early stages of my company, Mothership Studios as we try to organize better events
Most likely, the tournament will be swapped for 4 group stages with the top 2 advancing into a single elimination, Round of 8. We'll see how that goes for SAL Jan and make adjustments accordingly.
ugh. me play so bad out in first round T.T. gg anyway .first time i went for offline tournament.. thank you hdphoenix for the experience hope i can join more next time. ^^
Great suggestions, I will repost them in the SAL feedback thread. Pls continue to give me feedback so I can work on getting the tournaments to be better and more fun for everyone
just want to say thanks to hdphoenix and mysterybox for organizing this it was a great experience for sure. cheers to everyone who participated and please do feel free to msg me on sc2 for some friendly custom games yeah ^^
