Hi guys,

As you may know the staff have asked for volunteers to help with different things for the website (here). So, here is an image thread for all the things related to SC2SEA visuals/graphics.

If you are talented or just like to play around with Photoshop/Illustrator or any other software that can be used to create visuals for this website: this is your thread! Post your creations. Even a rough sketch will do as others can build on your idea! It's also a good way to have some feedback from people, so...

Note for the staff/admin:
Let us know what you need and what you want: logo, headers/footers for specific threads, posters, flyers... Also, whenever possible, give us details such as dimensions, resolution (for web or printing), color theme and whatnot.

Guidelines

- Resolution:

- 72dpi for the web
- 300dpi for printing

It's always better to work with higher file size/resolution even if it's only for the web. But make sure it still looks good when you resize it to the final size.

- mezza suggested to work in a 16:9 format for the streams' splash screens.

Favicon

Header for SC2SEA Weekly (the sub-text is here mainly as a filler, no idea what to write haha)

Sexy.

I did a trial run on http://www.zazzle.com/screenprinting for the shirts. When I resized the image I was using it became all pixellated, so it would be good to have a decent sized image to work with.

As for the actual design... I'm about as creative as a pointy stick. Go nuts guys

I dont mind the style of the Newsletter header. The only thing i personally would like changed is the colour. Something a little more bright and vibrant, eye catching. But yeah its good none the less thats just a personal thing.

for screen printing you'd need the image at around 300 dpi and a relatively large image size, like say an A4 thereabouts. just so you guys know what we're talking about when printing stuff from images, most web images are at 75dpi, so you'll need to get the raw file from the person and bump it up a huge amount.

i'll contribute more images as and when i can work on stuff, but here's the new sc2sea splash screen i've worked on, i have the raw so people can change their stream site/favicon as and when we change streamers, and its ustream friendly, there's no text up there on the top right hand side to interfere with ustream's watermark

bart and the dollar bill are gonna be kept to honor the guy who started it in the first place

one more thing i just remembered, if you're making gfx for events, like COTH and stuff, it'll be good if the image was made in 16:9 format because the streamers now broadcast in 16:9 formats so they can port the image and put it on as a splash screen in between matches, at least for me, that's what i do, and basically resizing it down to message board proportions isn't too hard, imgur does it for you instantly, and still keeps the original while its at it.

Hey Usul, love your thread and all and i guess im just gonna be honest, personally not a big fan of the font, dunno how the rest feel.

Maybe pick a color to go along with the sites theme too,same goes for the favicon!

I really like dreamhacks banner and if we have something similar like that its gonna be awesome.

I think we need a logo of some sort. Dreamhack has the funny squares, GOM has the weird orange paw, sc2sea should have something.

Seahorse. TL has the horse, we are a SC site just like the but we are SEA based. Seahorse. I tried working on it but im to tied down with all the Clan stuff =/

Have to agree with Nirvana as well. I was hoping adding more colour would change it for me but yeah not a fan of the STarcraft Font. This is more personal as well but i like a lot of noise, like it busy per say. Rather than just text. Maybe make a banner sort of thing like COTH and s2scl style. Bu yeha as i said, personal. Really do appreciate this thread though i dont know why we didnt start something like this sooner. I dont mind the FAvicon thing though more than happy with that.

No problem at all nirvAnA, any feedback is a hundred times better than no feedback.
The font ( basic sc2 font) is editable in the psd file, so changing it is not a problem. As for the colour matching the site's colour theme, it might be difficult since viewers can choose between blue, green and red... But I don't mind experimenting.
In my opinion, it would be a good idea to have a logo for the site that could be used for the favicon and maybe the T-shirt...

Edit: mmm, 2 new posts while writing my reply to nirvAnA... GSL is more distracting than I thought

@Apth: yup, a competition would be perfect for that, with a vote by the members or just the staff

@Torniquet: for the weekly banner I thought I could go for something simple at first. I'll try something busier then

I couldn't agree more, having a logo and using a single font really helps to identify a site quickly. Identity and homogeneity are really important and those are the first things potential sponsors will see...


Talking about sponsors, they may not approve the use of the image of Bart Simpson on the stream splash screen. Just a thought though, no offense meant to mezza or the person who started it.

royalty free image. i managed to fashion this out of some stuff i have. could be a base/outline for people to work with, might save some of you some time in finding free stuff to work with.

edit amazing, fundraw.com has something similar too and my source wasn't from fundraw.com but anyhow, like i said, its a royalty free image, so, stylize is, change it and do whatever you can/will

10 and 14 are by far my favorite designs.

It might be a good idea to first decide on a basic shape before adding color and more intricate elements.

Other ideas I'm putting here before I forget:
- it will make things easier later on if the final version of the logo is in vector form
- remember to work in CMYK mode (and not RGB) for any work destined to be printed

I find there's something odd with the seahorse, maybe because the head looks so big compared to the tail... Just my opinion though, gj Darkblade.

Yeah i really like that DFM. Um would need ot fix the section above the tail though how the gap between it and the tail section isnt even. Maybe one more spike on top of the head as well? Or even two little ones. Cant use gradients for tshirts can you =/?

@Darkblade Sure I can do that, but because of the size and position of the head, I think the overall balance of the picture is better is the tail curls towards the back. But I can give it a shot.

Looking at it a bit more, I think the HydraHorse/SEAHydra/Whatever would look a lot better if it was sharper and pointier. The corners are a bit too soft for me at the moment (Tail, wing thingees, head spikes).

Darkblade's design is good, but I like DFM's design better because the lines are simpler, and if you make a favicon or a smaller avatar, all lines can still be seen clear.

I wasnt talking lots of spikes on the head =/ Just like one or two getting inbetween the current large and small one. Like in order from largest to smallest. And yeah that section in between the tail and body doesnt sit well with me but im really picky =/ So if youd be willing to play around with that or something? Like the space between the tail and that bit make that even. Maybe even also try and decrease the gap between that piece and the fin? But yeah as i said heh im really picky bot that worried about it =/

One. But with the head spikes just copy the existing one so it faces the same way. Then put the two in between the current horn things. Make them in descending size. If you know what i mean =/

Alright so i think we have the Seahorse pretty much sorted now. Maybe we can start working on a logo? For general things and maybe a shirt. So yeah adding text maybe and i dont know any other ideas really. Shield, banner, wings, i dont know heh. But yeah good job DFM.

if we use custom names (which i think is totally awesome, had that in the aLt jackets) its gonna be abit more compicated

Im happy with either the three spikes or two spikes in DFMs latest. As for whether we just have the logo and the site or something else. Would really have to play around with it see what people can come up with exactly. So yeah feel free to keep experimenting.

favicon.ico is 32x32 sure? cause the actual thing looks smaller, just making sure.
And yeah Usul's version is clearer when that small and would be more suited for that.

EDIT: So I read that the favicon is actually 16x16 pixels? At that size all the logo suggestions will probably look the same rofl i.e barely barely recognizable =/

The favicon will be displayed as 16x16 even if the original image is 32x32.
Open any image in a new tab to check how it looks if it were a favicon (tab/address bar).
The readability substantially decreases from 32x32 to 16x16.

Also, I'm not sure if we're allowed to use the top right image of the zealot, since it was painted by someone else (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&se...ealot#/d1t9bss), have to ask for permission if we do decide to go with that one. Same with the marine. Then again, i'm not sure if we did that with the current banner at the top hahaha

I like the logo with the Bevel? So yeah i think we have the logo basically sorted. Not a real fan of the text though. Lets not go with the Starcraft Text =/

So if we can just get set on a text version just SC2SEA.

Then we can combine the text logo and the picture logo and we will be good.

Down the path we will have to transform it to a few different colour schemes but yeah thatll be good for now. So good work guys keep it up.

That, IMO, should be the template for banners/logos/shirts etc for the site. I like that a lot.
