Well because my RL friend is playing on Horde and so if i hit 85 I can raid together with him! And you are a PVP-er anyway, so we wouldn't be playing much together even if I was Alliance

And I'm totally clueless with all the guild xp guild achievements guild heirlooms or whatever was implemented in Cata. Have to get up to scratch again .....

Its nothing much. You used to have the shoulders/chest/(ring from fishing) that added 10%/10%/5% to your experience gained but that ends once you hit 80.

Being honored (think of it as a faction, you gain rep via doing quests, any quests) with your guild allows you to pick up a helm and a cloak which gives 10% and 5% experienced gain, up to lvl 85. Cost is 2000g and 1500g if I'm not mistaken

So theoretically, you could have +40% experienced gained from 1-79, and +15% from 80-85
