The Aliens are back, The Aliens are back! This time the Alien masters are looking to recruit young human followers to assist us in our ultimate Assimilation plan. In the months of June and July, here are what we have coming for you.
Alienware is proud to announce our first Youth Engagement Programme for campus level gamers in Singapore. To reach out to the youth gamers, Alienware is offering an amazing network opportunity that will provide activities and perks for aspiring individuals to reach their maximum gaming potential. Ultimately Alienware hopes to embark on a meaningful journey together with our gamers and ensure that their aspirations to conquer the world are fully met!
How should I start?
It is real simple. If you are currently a student studying in Singapore, and are within the age of 29 years old, you will be eligible to join us as a youth member. During our upcoming events, we will open up registration to members of the public who are eligible to sign-up. Be prepared to bring any document(s) that will verify you as an existing student and also bring along any other personal ID (IC/Passport) for verification.
After this First Encounter, it will open up your eligibility to participate in any of our members-only Alienware Arena exclusive events and activities. As a bonus, you will be automatically entered into our First encounter event draw. You will be entitled to one chance to win one of the many great Alienware peripherals prizes.
UPDATE:Signup for SC2 tournament opens on 3rd July, tomorrow. Just head down to our Campus Challenge #1 event at Cyberdome Cyber cafe tomorrow between 11pm - 6pm and make your registration.
At the closing of the event at 6pm, any new youth member signing up will be eligible for our event lucky draw. Three lucky ones will walk away with either our Alienware TactX Mouse, Keyboard or Headsets. At the same time you can catch some of our League of Legends youth gamers in actions tomorrow to battle it out for top honour and prizes.
Existing members will be able to participate in the event draw if you come down and support our event. Bring along any friend and introduce them to signup as new member will get you +1 chance in our draw.
Head down to our event and grab your priority tournament slots now. With $1000 worth of prizes, it is an opportunity not to be missed.
Can what do you mean by campus challenge? Like the people in a certain school will beocme a team vs people from other schools?
By the way, yes, this idea is in the work. Now for game with team we allow members of schools to mix.
However with increase of the size of the youth members and with more grabbing friend from same school to join. We can make it school vs school base challenge down the road.
Winners will then score points and honor for their schools.
ooo my official occupation is student. i still get to play yes?
juz checking bro !
r u sure that u r a stundet now?
didnt u graduated from polly already?
if u joined new school, or if i am wrong
pls forgive, coz i afraid to vs u at the tournament hehe..
May I inquire as to how the selection process is made?
From what I know of those who have gotten a call it is not a random process or based on how early they signed up nor based on league. I have yet to recieve a call/ confirmation so just wondering as I know of those who have already recieved theirs,
You mean slot allocation process right? Well, it given out by first come first serve while slots last. As mentioned in earlier reply, the call is not really about slot confirmation that we had made over this week.
Slot confirmation will be made via phone call or official announcement on our web by soon. Given me time to make a check and update on how is the latest signups status doing.

Oh, if that is really the case for him then he is not eligible unless he enrolled into another school and started his terms or is already allocate new student pass. If any of you know of other player who would be participating are not eligible, do let us know to help us maintain the fairness of our event.
Oxygen do help clarify here if you see this. I give you a call again later to check also.

Sorry for answering some of your queries late. Me and our team was at event today, just back from it a couple of hours ago.
Well, it's called campus challenge because we are reaching to members who join us who are studying and of age under 30. So if anyone meet this criteria, just pop down to our next event to register youth member and reg at same time for the tourney. We will have lucky draw for those who freshly joined.
The details are not up also because we are at some final stage to settle issues like venue and staff. please bear with us and check back for updates here or in our web by for anything fresh about the SC2 portion.
Lastly, I would like to express thanks to Nirvana and sc2sea for letting us share the news of our programme and event to our gamers. Help to spread the words to you friends and let's make this happening for all.

Joining is very easy. To join any of our Alienware Arena Youth Engagement activities or events, you need to become our youth member first.
You can now join our youth member during the next upcoming event or online, here's the link to the registration form for youth membership. Good news is once you joined, you are eligible for the next event draw with chance to win one of the cool Alienware peripheral products we are giving away as prizes.
For those that had already joined as youth member during our last event at Garena Carnival, you still can take part in the next event draw again by heading down to support our next upcoming Campus Challenge, League of Legends tournament event at Cyberdome cybercafe on the 3rd of July 2011. Any member that refer any of their friend to join will get a +1 chance in the event draw. Just approach our crew at our registration counter for help during the event.
These are just tip of the iceberg for our youth member benefits. For more information on what our Youth Engagement is about, explore www.DotaSG.com for more details.
We are on the last leg on finalising the details on our Campus Challenge Starcraft 2 tournament. We will update here once the details are ready.
Our "Campus Challenge #2 - StarCraft 2 Tournament" registration opens tomorrow. Head down to our event at Cyberdome Cybercafe to sign up as a youth member and register to grab a slot in the upcoming StarCraft 2 tournament.

No worries, I am more than happy to help answer the queries here.
Well, if you are still in Army now, I am sorry. Unless by the time the tournament is here you are enrolled into a school successful already, then you will qualify.
Well the format is simple, maybe not so simple. I try my best to explain.
These is a 1v1 tournament.
All matches are Best of 1.
All participants are gathered then drafted into their respective groups via random drawing.
Then participant in a group will play round robin with all his group mates.
Top winner(s) of each group will proceed on to the next stage.
Next stage is a fast and furious single elimination till the winners emerged.
Hope this make the format of the tournament clearer.
Do feel free to ask me here or in our webby at www.dotasg.com if you guys have any further queries.
Let's work together so we can bring more of such events to our gamers. Support us, support the community. Cheers.
Also don't forget to join us as Alienware Arena youth members. We will be looking out for prominent/top performing/super active members to promote to higher member level and enjoy more perks. So don't miss out this amazing opportunity.

Hmm as Muse stated, can we sign up as a youth member online? Also, if we do signup online, do we still need to go down offline to sign up for the SC2 Tournament?

what if i am in army but have been accepted by a uni for study next year? not considered a student?
I went down today and asked the people in charge.
I was told that you can register online but priority will be give to people who turn up at the LAN shop to register.
Can the dotasg admin clarify that this is correct?

That's quite a unique registration rule
Another clarification needed by dotasg_Admin:
:\ So registering as a youth member automatically seeds you into the sc2 tournament? Cos like, the registration online is for "youth membership", not for the "sc2 tournament".
Hi everyone, thanks to those who had sign up during our event over last Sunday. Check on the latest post update on our webby to see if you have won.
Some of you are extremely smart and had found the form actually for online sign up usage at our site. No worry, those of you who had signed up using that also will get your slots. At the moment there are still there are plenty of slots left to go around.
No worry, I will clarify again for for those looking forward to join but need our clarification. Our campus tournaments are exclusive to our youth members, you just have to join as youth member. Condition to become one is you must be a current student in Singapore and is within 29 years.
After that then you are eligible to registration for our StarCraft 2 tournament.
Could you post a list of those who have registered just so as to clarify whether we are in the tournament?
Actually, we should be contacting all successfully applicant or release a initial list for the tourney near the reg closing date. No worry and look out for update on it. If you are really keen to know, just drop an private message on our webby and we will look into it and revert ASAP.
Total as of now there are 22 slots taken. Join us as youth member and sign up for our SC2 tourney now. Great spread of prizes and opportunity not to be missed.
Thanks for participating Duan love. It take bravery to join a tournament, you are already a "winner". Just in your heart tell yourself to work hard and try your best in the tourney, maybe you can win. If not you also would have gain some tourney experience.
hi i've signed up for the youth membership and the sc2 tournament already, but have not received any calls yet. is there any way to check whether i have registered or do i resubmit the registration again?
*edit Just realised i actually have a missed call from a blocked number around 5 hours ago haha

hi, bro!

Youth member sign up and SC2 sign up,
am i in the tourney already ?
and, i got call from alienware, wad was that fo
they asked me about my current school and how many years left to graduate...haha
Guys, no worry. Yes, we need to collect those information from our youth members.
As for the call for confirmation it should take place around end of next week or if slots are filled before registration closes, the confirm list and brackets will be released.
As for the match format and maps, we have receive feedback. Due to time constrain, we already made the first part round robin so there are more matches for everyone as so they would not be KOed in one game but down the game into the final matches, we have to streamline the matches. Maybe best I could do is the final match for the champion and the 3rd and 4th would be best of three if time allowed. But no promised, at the moment it will still be B01 first.
Next is about the map pool, here's what someone suggests, since it's BO1, then the map pool to be reduced to 5 and have the coin flip loser veto 2 first and winner then veto 2, so the map left is for play.
Map pool changes also are suggested to be this,
Metropolis MLG version
Shatter Temple MLG version
Taldarin Altar
Shakuras Plateau
Xel Naga Caverns
Do share with us any more of your comments or suggestions.
We have already passed the 40 signup mark and happy to see such good response for a SC2 lan tournament event. Keep spreading the words about our youth engagement programme and the upcoming tournament.
Thanks to all of you in the SC2 community. Cheers.

really, a SC2 game takes 5-15mins on average. it's 40% less than the time stated on score screens because it's played on 'faster' mode. i really suggest bo3 out of group stages, it's completely possible to finish it within a day(as shown in previous sg lan tournys by hdphoenix).

Totally agree with muse. A Bo3 doesnt takes much time in a lan setting. As long as it is well organized and players play their matches in time. A Bo1 is too random and allows a lesser skilled player to beat a much high skilled player with cheese.

Thanks for the feedback, point taken.
However, the groups might be massives and with all the checking in and getting scores, toilet break and changing seats and waiting for each other to be ready, some time need to buffer in into each set. Hence, hope for you understand for now that we will have to kept at BO1 for now.
Ideal situation if everything runs like clockwork and if we have all day and full use at the cybercafe then it would be easier to fit in a format with more matches. We see how this one goes and optimize it along the way. Let's all give it a try first.
But rest assure we are taking note of your feedback, we are gamer too and sometimes play competitively so we also know how gamers feel. Thanks for your understanding guys. If we all as a team, do this well we can look forward to more from us and the programme.

On the above about the map rules, any more suggestions or feedback on it. Here's a final, call for input If not then we will implement these change in our tournament.
The registration is still on, there are about 20 slots still opened, so chiong ah. Sign up and join us for the fun now. Remember, being new member signed up also gives you the chance to win some Alienware goodies on that day.

I am sorry, that means you will not be qualified during the tournament. Don't worry, join us after end of the month and look out for more activities, goodies and activities from us.

There will not be confirmation email, usually we do it by call or release it on our website the confirm participant before the close of the registration, then you can check if you are in.

Map pool and veto changes will finalise end of this week if there are no other suggestions or objection.
are we allowed to use our own gaming peripherals? etc keyboard and mouse
Quoted from my SC2 rules, on my webby
"You are free to use your own equipments like mouse, keyboard or mousepad, however do kindly help to place back the default items or plug back the USB after you have completed your match. Headsets will not be provided, hence if you wish to use it, do bring it along with you.
Strictly no installation of any external drivers or programs. Any means to insert any thumb/usb drive or any storage devices will lead to possible immediate disqualification."
May I inquire as to how the selection process is made?
From what I know of those who have gotten a call it is not a random process or based on how early they signed up nor based on league. I have yet to recieve a call/ confirmation so just wondering as I know of those who have already recieved theirs,
I did graduate from Poly already, but as I am going in army, there is no way for me to get enrolled into a school. Besides I am not even in army yet, so theoritically, my occupation is still a student and not a NSF. Which means I still maintain my pink IC. Does that mean I am not qualified?
wish it wasn't just limited to students. the starcraft population is generally older so there are alot of players who are working part time or in NS who would love to play in this. you get more sign ups and and more exposure dont see how it can be bad!
Before I start replying let me rant a bit, arggghhhhhh my silly net connection, I had typed a huge chunk of reply and it get dced. Now, I need to retype. /rant

Sorry oxy, technically those that grad or enrolled but have not been accepted or start school falls outside base on out condition. Thus, you will not be qualified.

I understand, thanks for the feedback. You know what, actually a day before we hed discussed internally about it since we also have some similar feedback from others. However, finally decision on this issue is we will stick but the condition set. Sorry for those we falls outside and do not qualify.
Guys and gals, all gamers alike have your faith is us and our events, there is bound to have something either DotaSG is working on or will be proposing for the rest of you. Might not be now but sure is worth the wait, so far on that we have not disappoint and we do not wish to change that.

Okie, no worry, if you resend successfully, we will capture it and record it down. For BO3 from ro8 onwards, we see how things work out in this event. With us and the gamers cooperation together if everything can run smoothly and on time and not delay to cause inconvenience in future we could consider. Again for now we stick to what had been planned first.
By the way, the registration is still opened. So those that have not joined, do continue to signup before our closing date.
And those already did, do share with your friend, get them to sign up as youth member for a chance to win some Alienware products in our event draw. If they play SC2 too, best, get them to participate.

Heya, is it going to be Best of 1 all the way EVEN until the semi finals and finals?
Hi, I am one of the registered participants for the sc2 competition on 24th july and i just saw this,
"Be prepared to bring any document(s) that will verify you as an existing student and also bring along any other personal ID (IC/Passport) for verification."
I have already successfully enrolled in a university but I have been informed that my student card will only arrive in the first week of August. Is it possible i bring some other form of document as long as it states that I'm already one of their students?

Hi Revenant, we spoked over the phone. So this one clear as what I have replied in the earlier post. At the moment we stick to the original schedule plan. If everything goes smoothly and there should be more time left, then the later KO stage round we might make it BO3.

OK, GOOD NEWS HERE!! For those who had already successfully enrolled into local school, as long you produce document that prove your enrollment is successful, you are allowed to join as youth member and our tournament even before your start school.
hi admin can you mention the rules and format again? what does rev mean by bo1
The rules and format can be found on their main website which you can access through the link. What is meant by Bo1 means that in both the Round Robins and Elimination Brackets, all games are currently Best of 1. Literally. (:
We have 4 participants missing their youth member registration, we would need the 2 of you to register as youth member in order to be eligible for the tournament. Let me know if it's done. Thanks.

Thank you for organizing the event! Things were run smoothly and it was just cool to have a lan event, there are hardly any lan tournaments for sc2. A follow up event will be greatly anticipated! I'd say we all had a lot of fun. Thanks again, let us know when the post is up so we can do our own posts etc etc.
Imo, the nicks that the player used should also be posted. For example, Tan "Pikachu" Ah Beng. Other than that, thanks for running a LAN tournament in SG!
