NaCl dissolves in water, such as tears forming Na+ and Cl-. In our bodies the Cl- isn't as important as the Na+. Na is a metal and is different from Na+ which is an ion. Na+ is stable and unreactive, Na is a metal with a loose electron in it's valance shell causing it to react with oxygen/water. #studying biochem
