I think he got it backwards. Red is your region ranking, Blue is your global ranking (why would somebody be top 50 in the world but top 500 on SEA?) and points are equivalent to ranking (inches measure the same thing as meters)

Nah Red is indeed world ranking. It is just that you are ranked to your current league. That is why if you have a lot of points at the moment, you will be highly ranked in the world as sc2ranks only take into account your current league when counting your world ranking.
More ever if you noticed, the values given for the world rank differs according to your rank. Only top 30k for a GM player but top 600k for a silver player.
