Hi im an admin from ESL NA who lives in Australia was recently approached by an ESL boss about creating some ESL SEA tournaments like we do for the community in other places around the world.
We do Bronze/Silver/Gold tournaments and Platinum/Diamond tournaments (no prizes just bragging rights and fun) and also esl na open cup with $25 prize to the winner.
Are you guys interested in tournaments like these? If so please pm me below or send me an email to: ascarecrow@staff.eslgaming.com.
Please add what tournaments you are interested in (non prize tournaments please till we get details sorted)
eg Bronze/Silver/Gold, Platinum/Diamond, Master/gm/diamond(best of the rest), Gold/Platinum or any combination you think would benefit the sc2 sea region. once some suggestions are added ill make a tl poll post with some of the suggestions. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/star...ty-tournaments

Reason: Additional information on what kind of tournaments sea wants to see.
I think any tournament would be welcome in our scene depending if it clashes with other tournaments that are already one. Also off memory the last couple of ESL events run in SEA weren't run that great or finished in its entirety.
Personally I would still love to see ESL involved in our scene so i'm all for it

Sounds good! As my fellow Jordan said though, make sure you're paying attention and actually finish them. Remain transparent with the community and let us know if there's any issues.
Also, nice to see a fellow Canberran.

Echoing what everyone else has said here, a new tournament is welcome as long as it is well run and doesn't collide with other tournaments. Glad to see ESL taking more notice of the SEA scene!
It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.

Ive learnt how to control tournaments and have always finished what i start i want to see SEA rise with the other regions even knock a few off :P. ill be controlling them and hopefull recruit a few admins to help me out. But defiantly pay attention to tournaments do not worry about that part
Sounds good. One thing to think about though is that I hate using the esl website to sign up for tournaments. Just found it too difficult and confusing in the past

sadly it will require to sign up using esl tournament but i can create a guide on how to use if that helps? also if you guys know how to speak other SEA languages like Japanese and can get some of their communities involved would be create sadly dont have any admins here that speak any of the sea languages except for english of course.
ill try my best to avoid collision with other sea tournaments.
Some of the Japanese guys are starting to get involved in this community, best bet would be to get in contact with PSiArc (sure he will comment on this when he sees it) and see if he can reach out to his Japanese friends

I can only reach out to Japanese guys when I have spare time, but I can think of some other guys who could help, I'm not sure how many of us will participate though.
Actually I can't imagine other Japanese guys participating except a few people who have played in foreign tournaments before.
Many Japanese guys are shy and in fear of making mistakes, so usually only those who understand plain English or have had someone translate the rules beforehand participate in tournaments outside japan, therefore the chances are there won't be much of a problem with language anyway.
Even with Japanese support I don't think many more people will join, especially these days when less and less Japanese players are really eager to compete and most to just spectate.

We can use Rikapi if she is available to help translate for the Japanese players. I'm sure she would be interested.

Hey mate. I was previously an ESL admin and it was getting prizes from above that was the issue. So if you can manage that then it sounds great. However, SEA does have a smaller player population so perhaps inviting SEA players to participate in the NA cups until you have a large enough player base to justify SEA Cups?

Let me know if you need help nicolasjrusso
good point maybe i should post the esl na tournament information on here? or is there somewhere else you have in mind? and will do post if i run into any troubles thank you for the offer.
Would be great to see ESL investing in the SEA region - looking forward to it. I'd be happy to offer my services if required to get things running as well.
This would be really great if managed well an stuffs! Will definitely help with the SEA scene but I'm pretty sure it will take some time to revamp the scene to what it used to be years ago but I still believe~

we didnt expect it to big at the start but we want to try and show the sc2 scene that sea deserves to have their own tournaments as well not to just have to play in other region tournaments and deal with their server latency.

To be fair, we probably have as much, if not more tournaments than other regions.
But even more sounds great, especially if it's BSGPD, which is largely overlooked.
What about if you guys teamed up with SEAcraft and Philosopher and supported SEAcraft Melee, an already established tournament for SEA players, which is in need of sponsorship.

the community tournaments dont have a prize but i could maybe get coaching as a prize if this is successful. ill keep it in mind but ill have to take that up with ESL management though ESL is hesitant with sponsoring other companies.
i most likely wont be able to get prize money for an open cup maybe when lotv is released but could always do a 2v2 tournaments if that is another interest in the sea community not too many around these days.
I think the possibilities are out there. It is definitely a good thing to have ESL interested to be involved in the SEA scene. More exciting times ahead

So long as lordbyrnsy or w/e his name was doesn't have anything to do with it, I ain't got no problems. He is the most incompetent admin I have ever come across.

Woah.. i think thats a bit harsh... why is byrnsy incompetent? He was great imo. It was the guys above him that left him out to dry with nothing. . He did well in a tough situation.

Byrnsy and some of the other local ESL guys are cool, and try and do what they can. It would be the 'higher up's' who don't offer anything significant to the players, enforce the tricky/faulty website use, or don't follow through on prizes.
Hopefully that changes, but they don't have a great track record.
just an update no i havnt forgotten just been coordinating with esl to figure whats best hopefully in the coming month we will have a tournament for sea been a long process.
Hey mate, talk to eddie or one of the other mods (not me, I don't know how to do it) about getting you permissions to post in the Tournament section of the site. Then if you can put together some good posts (let me know if you need help) about the ESL SEA or NA tournaments open to SEA peeps. You mentioned you're not getting many SEA sign ups, but as a SEA player I'm not seeing many sign up links either. So posting regular tournament specific threads would be helpful.
Even the smallest donations help keep sc2sea running! All donations go towards helping our site run including our monthly server hosting fees and sc2sea sponsored community tournaments we host. Find out more here.
