This forum is the official home of the new BSG Open Ladder!
If you ever want to know who is winning the current round, or who is the best of the best, you can check the respective ladders here.
The way the points work is as follows:
1st = 15pts
2nd = 12pts
ro4 = 10pts
ro8 = 8pts
ro16 = 6pts
ro32 = 4pts
ro64 = 2pts
Looking at the standings here I'm guessing the recent BSG Cup doesn't count?
Really nicely done though so far!
No, that was held by Asrath as a Cup that was not related to this ladder. When I first saw the post I kinda choked a little because SouL and I were still in testing for the ladder!

This has no bearing to any seeding for the BSG Open weekly right? It's more for information and for some friendly competition?

I'm not sure how it will be played out when it comes to the open (subject to interpretation)... it can either be the top 16 people are invited to the BSG Cup... and random seeded... or 1v16 2v15th... not sure where they are taking it at that level.

Lokth, to be honest, I don't think people will avoid promotion for that :/
The people who are at the position where they CAN actually get promoted, if they were to avoid promotion, it would more likely to continue playing in BSGs, rather than to stay at the top of this list. so I don't think this list will really affect that much.
Also, really liking this idea, kudos to Narse and Kieran for this :3
huwway, top20! xD Lets see if I can keep my name in the top 25 in the next few weeks while I can't play (*cries*)
Also, I think that when someone gets promoted, they should be added to a different [.spoiler] list where their Final Rank, Race, Name, and Points are listed :P So people can still see how well a person did before finally getting promoted :P

I like that idea Kumo... Like how they have a hall of fame.
Besides trying to keep people having fun at a competitive level even in a lower league
Would be nice in the community... This is all going to be trial and error

You would be surprised. Plenty of people already try and smurf, I only see a ladder like this increasing the problem.
It would be unfortunate if thy were the case... Trying to keep people interested with new ideas only to get blindsided by a few bad apples.... Well if it causes too many issues we just go back to the old way?? Not up to me though

The BSG cup is chosen by having the top 3-4 players from each BSG weekly to play in. I can see perhaps this 'ladder' as a method to choose wildcards. It is also in a way like a hall of fame. We don't want to overly penalise players who are good but cant play as frequently due to real life 'distractions' to not get to play in the BSG cup just because they play less frequently than some who are able to play every week.
It can also perhaps be reset after each Cup or SC2 season or monthly. This will prevent the list from being coming overly long and having players who might be promoted etc.

Lokth has a point, but I would argue that the people who do that kinda of thing will do it whether the ladder is in place or not. I think it is a great way for ensuring regular participation and will see some people playing on night they otherwise might not have bothered with.
I've always argued that the only way to fight smurfing is to have very definite and strict rules about the amount of laddering required per week. Unfortunetely the nature of ladder is that people who deserve promotion don't always get it and the people who get them sometimes don't deserve them. It has always been the case IME that top of gold are generally stronger than bottom of plat. There are no easy answers.
Goose and Nem make excellent points.. i would assume myself that the ladder resets after each cup (it would only make sense)... There are no easy answers... and there may be problems... but i would like to see this be played out rather then shoot it to the ground immediately.
