[tn]Free had a lot of his clan mates and friends supporting him!

Qualifier 2 was a grassroots style tournament held at E2 Max cineleisure which saw a large turn out of Starcraft 2 players. Among familiar faces were new players participating in their first tournament and their friends who turned up to cheer them on. The results were somewhat expected, with the top 4 seeds of the tournament making up the final top 4. However, what was not expected was the strong performance of the many new faces that participated.

ProAboveMe - a teamless protoss player made a huge impact, knocking top seed FlashDrake down to the loser bracket in round 2 with a 2-0 score shocking everybody. He ended up finishing the tournament in 7-8th place, alongside FlashVeno. Other new names that made an impact were Max, boboGene and [tn]Free who all made it to the final 12, knocking out veteran Singaporean players like Sweet and EveParachute along the way.

The best Singaporean female player Polaris ended up playing her boyfriend in round 2, whom she defeated. She went on to finish the tournament in 5-6th place alongside EveVendetta. The winner's bracket was between Manly and Blysk, which Blysk won convincingly. Later in the loser bracket, ProAnn who always manages to do well in tournaments defeated drake and then Manly in the loser bracket finals in two tightly contested 2-1 games. The Grand Final was close but ultimately Blysk emerged the winner.

It was great to see new blood in the scene and its tournaments like these organised by AsiaSoft and Blizzard that really help grow the scene. Thanks for sponsoring the tournament! For those who did not qualify today, do look out for our next qualifier coming on the 26th May held at Bugis+ Colosseum. Would love to see you all come down again! You can sign up right here!

2 Vetoes from each player, order of vetoes chosen by coin toss.

The rules are standard tournament rules. Only new thing is in the event of a disconnect we can now resume from replay.

+ [Full Rules] +
The tournament head marshal reserves the right at any time to change any of the rules. These rules are essentially just guidelines to follow and we are allowed full flexibility and discretion when running the tournament.

1. Each player must "blind veto" 2 maps from the pool. The vetoed map(s) can never be used in a match. Already played maps or vetoed maps within a match cannot be picked.
2. Before the match starts, there will be a coin toss between the opposing players. The player who wins the coin toss will choose 1 map to veto. The other player will choose 2 maps to veto. Finally the coin toss winner chooses the last map to veto, leaving 3 mains in play. He then choses the map to use for the match. Succeeding games will be alternately chosen by the two players.
3. Players are allowed to bring their own keyboard, muse and headset but no macro functions on keyboards/mouse are allowed to be used in any of the matches.
4. Players are given 5 minutes to setup their peripherals.
5. Players are given 5 minutes to setup their game settings
6. The tournament marshals will inform the participants in which Battle.net server the match will be played.
7. Players must inform their opponent and the marshal of what race they will be using. Players are not allowed to change race once the countdown has started.
8. The game must only be started with the approval of the marshal.
9. The player that completely destroys their opponent's structure or when their opponent surrenders will win the match and advance to the next round.
10. Once a match is over, the marshal must be called over to view the Score Screen for proof of winning the match. Players must not exit the game as the marshals will save the replay of the match.
11. Players who quit a game before it has ended, without the marshal's permission, will automatically lose the game intentional or by accident.
12. Pausing the game
a) If a player must pause the game due to technical difficulties, player must immediately inform the marshal within 2 minutes after the game has started.
b) Games can only be restarted twice. If same problem persists, ask players to move to another pc.
13. In the event of a disconnection, the game will be resumed via the replay feature "Join In" the resumption of a disconnected game shall be monitored by the tournament marshal.
14. In the event of a power outage, accidental uplugging, system freeze or some other events, player must immediately inform the marshal to come and decide the outcome of the match. Marshal's decision will be final.
15. If a player deliberately plays for a stalemate, the marshal holds the right to decide the outcome of the game.
16. No coaching is allowed.
17. Any sign of cheating may result to disqualification.
18. Improper and bad behavior towards other players, marshals or organizers may result in a disqualification.
Bracket placing will be determined using an automatic bracket generator. Challonge.com
19. In the event that the tournament slots are not completed, bracket placing will be adjusted depending on the number of participants.
20. Head Marshal will be responsible to hold fair judgment for any other technical/issues raised during the tournament which are not stated in this rule book. Head Marshal's decision is final.

BlackStar.273 and Polaris.220 had signed up for the wrong qualifier accidentally. As they let me know early and there were two slots available, they have been added to the bracket and seedings have been updated accordingly. So the bracket has been slightly changed. The tournament is now full and bracket is now finalized.

Overall, this event was very well done! Some feedbacks, the map pool could have more variety (I played like Akilon Waste and Belshir Vestige in almost every single series).

The brackets moved fast but i think it may be better to start earlier? Like 10-11am so we have can have 1 hour break for lunch or something~ Either that or inform the players to have an early lunch before they come down.

Another feedback is also try to spread out where the seeds sit too? Like me and blysk sat next to each other and we played in Ro4 so i had to change computer and settings etc...

Really love how the event went though! .

Thanks for the feedback!

1. Players chose the maps from a pool of 7 so I am not sure how to vary the maps unless I use a pre-determined map each round. Undecided still because some races may end up having advantages on some maps in important rounds.

2. The LAN only opened at 12noon so there was no way to start earlier. I should have stressed players to eat before coming in the email.

3. I actually did this, spread the seeds out very evenly and the groups so there will be a low chance of having the players sit next to each other. I think in your case i was suddenly told there were three cpus that could not load on SC2 that day. One of those cpus happened to be yours. So we had to reposition you to one of the empty computers from the no shows which turned out to be next to blysk.

This was heaps of fun to cast, I have to say that SG players are the most manner players I have come across so far, Blysk and ProAnnn were both so incredibly lovely, as were many others

Congrats on qualifying guys! I will make sure to watch the other qualifiers as I wish to see Polaris and DrakE both make it through also!!!

One more thing -

Actually we decided with Blizzard awhile back on the revised seeds for the competition. But I completely forgot about it and was using the old format. So I have just updated the OPs.

Q1 = 2 Seeds - Yekke, Lobo
Q2 = 3 Seeds - Blysk, ProAnn, Manly
Q3 = 3 Seeds - Bugis+
Q4 = 2 Seeds - Bugis+ (NUS)
Q5 = 2 Seeds - Online Qualifier
Finals = 4 Seeds (Open Bracket)

Total for finals = 16

All already qualified players can only play again in the NUS qualifier.
