Players will be able to specialize cities on certain industries, such as manufacturing, tourism, education, or others. Each have distinct appearances, simulation behavior, and economic strategies.
Players have the option to heavily specialize on one or build multiple specializations in any given city for diversity.
The game will feature a simulated global economy. Prices of key resources like oil or food will fluctuate depending on the game world's supply and demand.
You can only buy this game on origin, which is EA's client which is similar to Valve's steam.
Australian SimCity is now live from Origin, I hope that there isn't going to be many problems like what the Americans are experiencing at the moment. I've been watching these http://new.livestream.com/accounts/2...events/1902153. It's the Let's All Be Mayor event that Maxis did a week before the game was released it's really informative and also really damn hilarious BUT each video is 4 hours long...
This game seems extremely complex, will be awesome to learn something before HotS comes out. My Origin tag is Poruchiik feel free to add me!
All these complaints about small city size.. the concept is you manage an entire region your self with each cities (up to 17 is the max for a region?) being a specialist city..
I get that it's fun to complain but come on the system works pretty good..
So buggy... origin says I have played it for 3 hours, of which 99.9% was spent hoping that I could connect and 0.1% was in the tutorial before it disconnected me

I'll raise you with mine saying 20+ hours for playing the intro level and 15 minutes after that before work and me leaving the client all day hoping it wouldn't log me out (which it did, and I couldn't get back on all night )
So after playing close to about 10 cities... There are quite a few things that are just hard to understand.
Population : Workers : Available Jobs
I've gotten my population to 150,000 before, but the workers are well below 30,000. And the amount of jobs available is crazy high.
The numbers never match up. I'd like to see if anyone is able to get the number of unfilled jobs to 0.
I eventually dezone most of my city and reduced the population to 80k, but not much of a difference.
Traffic
Sims are just stupid, they need to be smarter about traffic routes. Streetcars > buses. Seriously, buses are a scam.
And congestion is so bad, that getting above 100k population is a little bit tricky to manage. Intersections causes jams, and you'd think more roads lead to better traffic, but it's quite the opposite because of said intersections.
Income
My most successful city by far, was raking in 9k/hr. With a population of over 120k. Congestion was terrible. Crime was high and fires were raging all over (due to congestion not allowing police and firemen to reach their destinations).
Fast forward to all my coal/ore/recycling plants working at full capacity, and deciding to save 1.5m while afk. I decided to dezone everything and selectively bulldoze many unhappy buildings. This improved traffic tremendously (less people), crime was reduced to almost nothing and fires as well...
Result? About -13k to -15k/hr income, with Trading keeping me in the black (barely).
Water
You WILL run out of water. Rain is suppose to replenish the water supply in the area, but I hardly see it rain, and even if it does, it's probably only 3 seconds of rain in cheetah speed.
Solution: Have your Sewage Treatment Plant next to your Water Pump running with Filtered Pumps. Infinite poop water for your city. Newater for the win.
Finally, let's not forget the overstressed servers that take forever to send your money/ambulances/fire trucks and what have you to your friend's region.
Buses are not a scam. There are threads on reddit about people getting 99% public transport usage with a lot of bus stops. The guy who wrote the code has given feedback as well. You can also achieve much higher income than that, although I haven't yet.
Q: Is there an alternative way to get fast cash besides a loan?
A: Yes. Raise your taxes to 20% for two ticks, then lower them back to 9 or whatever you previously had. This will give you almost the same amount of money as a bond, for free! We find ourselves doing this every now and again with absolutely no detriment to our citizens. Not one abandonment or mention of these secret tax hikes anywhere.
Had to go out for dinner, so started a city in about 20 mins, got it on 5k/income a month with all utilities set up and about 10k pop. Then I went afk to eat!
The good news is that SimCity is a solid hit in all major markets. The consensus among critics and players is that this is fundamentally a great game. But this SimCity is made to be played online, and if you can’t get a stable connection, you’re NOT having a good experience. So we’re not going to rest until we’ve fixed the remaining server issues.
And to get us back in your good graces, we’re going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.
I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy. But we feel bad about what happened. We’re hoping you won’t stay mad and that we’ll be friends again when SimCity is running at 100 percent.
SimCity is a GREAT game and the people who made it are incredibly proud. Hang in there – we’ll be providing more updates throughout the weekend.
"I know that’s a little contrived – kind of like buying a present for a friend after you did something crummy."
Will never buy this game until the standards are higher than sim city 4.
Untill then I think it is worth pirating if someone removes EA's appalling DRM/Origin, and CONSTANT internet access for single player.
I had enough trouble with Origin & Battlefield 3's DRM. (Never had a problem with Steam even when my net goes skitz once and awhile)
I rather feel good about myself for not buying any new EA product for about a year. But it is so sad that I can't really enjoy Maxis as much as I did as a kid...
FOR OUR PATIENT AND AMAZING MAYORS - A FREE PC DOWNLOAD FROM ORIGIN
Our SimCity Mayors are incredibly important to the team at Maxis. We sincerely apologize for the difficulties at launch and hope to make it up to you with a free PC game download from Origin.
Starting today, every player that has activated their copy of SimCity will receive an email that will give directions on how to redeem this offer, and you can also find more information on our FAQ here: https://help.ea.com/article/simcity-something-extra. We’ll be opening up the redemption portal country-by-country so some of you may see it a little sooner than others. The portal will be live worldwide for everyone to select their game by March 22. We don’t want any of you to miss out on your free game, so please note that you must register your copy of SimCity before March 25, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT and you must claim your free game by March 30, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT.
At Maxis, our studio values dictate that we innovate and create something that is quirky, complex and challenging. Sometimes this bites us in the butt, but our servers are green and we’re seeing record numbers of players all online and having a great time.
Here is the list of games that you will be able to choose from once you are able to redeem. It’s a great list of games across the whole EA portfolio, so pick one and add it to your Origin library on us!
We’re getting great feedback from our fans and know that many of you are having fun and exploring this whole new expression of SimCity. We’re humbled by your patience and passion for the game. Thanks for building something very special with us, together.

I find the idea of BF3, ME3, DS3 and MoH being one of the few choices a real joke as well as a big flipping off to some of the players of those games...
Think EA needs to stop being so damn corporate and take a community view.

Everyone worldwide will have access no later than 5:00PM PDT on March 22 and will have until March 30 at 11:59PM PDT to redeem.

You will see the reminders once per day in each location, and once you’ve selected your free game the reminders will go away.
I'll accept the free game but I bought SimCity for a reason.. SimCity 4 also doesn't seem worth the taking compared to the other games listed. Not a great list to choose from. :l
