Some really good stuff in that post ty
(btw... breadfan is setting a great example... challenge me! I like to think I'm right a lot ALL the time... but I know that's not true and challenging my opinion only helps make this team better... which is what I want.)
TL:DR of breadfans post:
We're encouraged to find things to write about rather than stuff which is newsworthy because of the "minimum" requirement.
Posting updates by blizzard and similar news streams is redundant however if we do wish to continue doing this... why not automate the process?
Aim to post about big news rather than just all news
Suggestion: Look back at what was popular over the past 6 months and aim to post what's popular.
Suggestion: If I'm wanting more articles per month... why not change the minimum?
1. Duly noted - I can understand why being forced to meet a minimum number of articles could be concerning about article quality. It's sometimes difficult to know how to measure peoples work. i.e. quality over quantity. For the first 6 months it's been easy just to keep track of how much people post and based on that I can measure how much work each of you has been doing even if some have genuinely been working harder than others. How would you go about measuring how hard our group works? should I find a new system or just use my own judgement... I'll still keep collecting stats cause they're a useful thing to have regardless.
2. Automating the process sounds like a great idea and certainly is something that a number of people would be capable of putting together. It could be added to the front page like so too:
Image: Current layout (left); proposed layout (right).
Until the bot is functional... we can just keep doing what we're doing currently perhaps? I will elaborate more in point 3 right now.
3. The reason why we're aiming to post all news in addition to just newsworthy news is so that SC2SEA becomes a major news hub. Somewhere where people go to get all their news rather than just SEA related news. With enough of an eye out we can make it so that even people who aren't in the SEA region come here for news because we have all the news which brings attention to the SEA scene which will in turn develop this region making it bigger and better and bringing new opportunities to the players in this region.
4. Excellent idea... I will do this.
5. Nice suggestion but I also don't want to push you guys too hard either. We've already mentioned that the "minimums" system is imperfect and that there may be a better way of measuring contributions to the news team. For now I am thinking I'll keep it the same but I do welcome alternative measurement systems.
