The other really big news that emerged from MLG is that after Curse defeated Dignitas in the League of Legends finals, both teams had their ranking/prizes stripped from them, and awarded to 3rd & 4th places.
This was because both teams went All-Random & All-Mid for the Grand Final and agreed to split the prize pool between them regardless of the outcome. In SC2 terms, this would be like if Leenock and First pulled their 6 workers and battled in the middle of the map to determine the winner.
This has been a topic of discussion in the past (ie. Naniwa GSL Probe pull) so I thought I'd highlight something that some people don't seem to acknowledge or respect.
* If you're gonna share the prize pool with your opponent, keep that shit private. It happens a lot in Australian tournaments, but we don't go around broadcasting it to the admins / live stream.
* Fans all around the world tune in to these events for up to 3 days at a time to watch their favourite team/player battle it out against the other best team/player of the day as tension & anticipation continues to build for the duration. Some of these fans even pay money for spectator passes at the venue. After 3 long days, a grand final like this is extremely underwhelming to the people who keep these events afloat.
* Teams and players spend several hours, days, weeks and even months practicing and preparing for events of this scale. It's disrespectful towards them as professional competitors to rob them of a clean, legitimate victory and - in some cases - a match that will be revered for years to come.
Stuff like this can be a slap in the face to the industry. People need to conduct themselves properly!
