Since April 19th, the Global Gaming Alliance and their partners have been bringing StarCraft 2 qualifiers to regions around the world, which will ultimately lead up to a huge Grand Final event. With the North American & European qualifiers now complete, it's time for South East Asia to rise up to the challenge. Starting next week, the best players in SEA will battle it out to determine who will represent amongst the best in the world - with over $5,000 cash and $5,000 in prizes as an incentive.
Qualifier #1: August 1st (Brackets) (Stream) (Winner: Nv.mOOnGLaDe)
Qualifier #2: August 23rd (Brackets) (Stream) (Winner: Tt.PiG)
Qualifier #3: September 5th (Brackets) (Stream) (Winner: JookTo)
Qualifier #4: September 27th (Brackets) (Stream) (Winner: Fray.Ninja)
Global Finals
Global Finals: December 19th
(All qualifiers commence at 7:00PM AEST, stream links to come soon)
You'll need to register an account with Challonge to sign up for the qualifiers. You can participate in as many qualifiers as you like.
Additional Information
Format: Single Elimination, Best of Three (Grand Finals Bo5)
Maximum Participants: 128 (per qualifier)
Check In: 15 minutes before each event
Server: SEA
Channel: GGA
Maps: WCS Daybreak, WCS Ohana, WCS Cloud Kingdom, GSL Metropolis, WCS Antiga Shipyard, WCS Shakuras Plateau, WCS Entombed Valley, WCS Tal'Darim Altar LE (Ignore the maps on Playhem, I've updated them to reflect WCS maps)
To answer a few inevitable questions before they arise...
Q: WTF Maps? A: Yeah... I know. They actually started laying out the blueprints for this event in January, so the map situation has changed a bit since then. I've asked if I can update the map pool, waiting to hear back. A2: Update - Yep, gonna use the WCS Map pool.
Q: ...Playhem? A: They're an official partner of the event. Hopefully things run smoothly!
Q: Single Elimination!? A: Yep. People have been asking for it lately, so here we go! Bo3 Single Elim with a Bo5 Final.
Q: How many people advance to the finals from each qualifier? A: Just the one.
Q: Am I an eligible participant? A: Anyone with a SEA account can participate. It's not restricted just to SEA residents, or citizens, or anything like that. Ideally we'd like a full bracket of legitimate SEA representatives though.
Q: Where is the Global Grand Finals? A: The whole event will operate online. There is no offline component.
Q: What are the product/hardware/goodie bag prizes? A: Dunno. If it really matters, I can chase it up. A2: It's over $5,000 worth of stuff!
Q: Is there a league restriction? I wanna play, but I'm only Silver league A: No league restriction. A2: If we actually fill out the bracket, I may increase the player limit. We'll play it by ear for now.
Q: How is seeding done? A: I'm unhappy about this, but Playhem will be randomising the seeds.
Q: When is the Global Finals? A: December. Don't have a specific date.
Q: How many people in the Global FInals? A: 32.
Can't think of anything else at the moment. If you have any questions, throw them in the thread and I'll add them to this list.
Don't forget to upvote on Reddit, bump on TL, Retweet & share on Twitter/FB! Get into the habit of doing this for all SEA news/events. (Links are in the OP. Nice and easy.)
Bump! Just a reminder that qualifier #2 is next week! I'll be updating the OP this weekend with NEW registration links & methods, since Playhem doesn't co-operate with us. Keep an eye out.
Okay I've edited the Registration Link in the OP - it now points to Challonge instead of Playhem.
Unfortunately this means:
Those of you who registered via Playhem will need to register again. Sorry!
You MUST create a Challonge account.
When doing so, please consider the following:
You use an account that reflects your in-game ID. (eg. Don't create a challonge account called "PotatoHunter" if your in-game account is "NvDox")
You must register using an e-mail address that you check frequently. I'll need to get in touch with all participants after the event for prizes and whatnot. If I can't contact you, it'll make life difficult.
All replays must be uploaded (you can do this via Challonge) before you can proceed to the next round. GosuGamers are distributing replay packs for each event (this was the biggest perk of Playhem), so I've been having a nightmare of time trying to recover the replays from the first event.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to post in the thread. Next qualifier is this week!
Bump! There are only two registrations for Thursday! This is a reminder for EVERYONE to sign up using the new challonge link! If you signed up on Playhem you'll have to do it again now! (Sorry!)
Hey Dox, just a few questions. My Challonge account name is pretty random (VoE_Nostalgia) but I signed up with my SC2 name (VBBandit) so is that alright? Also, what time is this on Thursday? Also what 'products' are involved in the prizes?
Thanks!
Edit: nvm just spotted the time in the OP

Just a reminder that this is happening tomorrow night. Registrations are looking good! Stream will be hosted by Benji. I will be seeding the brackets however I see fit!
Quick question, is the Jookto I see in the brackets the ex ogs player? If so is this a qualifier specifically for the SEA region or is it an open tournament? Or does Korea come under SEA in this tourney?
I know this is a pretty pointless/nitpicky question. I'm just interested since previously our qualifiers have been for sea residents only.
Q: Am I an eligible participant?
A: Anyone with a SEA account can participate. It's not restricted just to SEA residents, or citizens, or anything like that. Ideally we'd like a full bracket of legitimate SEA representatives though.
That answer your question Bard?
Also, I've already spoken to Dox about this and it is fine - but he suggested I let everyone know.
SenSei is NOT playing on his account for this tournament. As with the above rule American Protoss from team MYi.shinyA is playing on his account - this is fine with tournament admins. But any prizes or qualification goes to shinyA - not SenSei.
Really sorry guys, I wasn't really ready to play this tournament in the first place. It's 6:20 am and I have to wake up at 9:00 am so I really wanted to get SOME sleep and if I played a bo5 I wouldn't really get any.
Thanks for the tournament, it was great. Sorry to upset anyone by the forfeit, I wanted to push on as long as I could and show good games but my eyes are bleeding!

I see no problem with this, thanks for stopping by!

appaling behaviour from shinya, very dissapointed.
Really guys? Cmon it's not like this is the first time this has happened. I remember not too long ago tgun had to go out to watch a movie and bailed from a tournament when he was in UB finals, and he even got given the win. All he wanted to do was play in the tournament and go as far as he could - he wanted to forfeit after beating mafia and let mafia go through to keep playing but I convinced him to keep going, and he made 2 more rounds vs deth and jookto in really intense games which would take it out of anyone let alone at 6am in the morning.

Big difference with my issue. I'm not going to comment on this tournament (as I have no idea what actually happened) but with my tournament, it was a qualifying tournament and everyone didn't care about seeding -- this one, only first gets seeding (iirc).
Hmmm. I guess it's just a bit sucky that he knocked out a bunch of players that would have stayed until the end, denying them the opportunity to challenge PiG for the qualification spot instead of giving him a free final set.
Regardless, he won the position fair and square so he rightfully can forfeit it. Some good games by him and the other players - excited for the next two!
I agree, while it sucks that he didn't contest the final spot. The second paragraph sums it up. He won his position fair and square. He is entitled to forfeit it.
I was talking to him after he forfeited - he regrets not playing the final but realised that he had hit his wall in what he could do. He was well over tired. He admits that in his state - PiG would have beaten him. So he felt he would best serve himself by forfeiting. The player has the right to give up and throw in the towel. He earnt his spot in the final, it was his choice not to contest the final. I don't see what was wrong in this.
shinyA wants to be more active in the SEA community - he is from HK, but lives in the US. He wanted to show some entertaining games and when he'd found out he'd made a few prizes - his time was well spent and he was happy to see one of SEA's best (PiG) take the seed into the final tournament.
didn't realise i was being retarded by stating that i was underwhelmed by a walkover in the grand finals, sorry for my horrendously offensive behaviour
Hi guys, most of you haven't seen me on SEA before as this was my first tournament on here, just wanted to say thanks a great tournament and I hope you'll be seeing more of me around. It was surreal to 2-0 rossi (even though game 1 was just luck, game 2 i thought you were doing mvp style mech from iem and ive been coming up with how to beat that), and get casted playing pig
I had no idea he wasn't Sensei while playing him either. Was very well mannered though. Good games.
Next time just be a bit more informative of your real id if not using your own account. It's only fair to know who you're really up against in a tournament environment.
Trust me I know how annoying it can be when you lose to someone and find out it's a smurf. In the first wT- weekly I lost first round to ZooM who was using some bronze account smurf who went on to win the tournament. However at the time I was asking him who he was after he beat me and he kept denying he was a smurf and pretending to be bronze. I'm under the assumption all that happened between ShinyA and Mafia/Eddie was glhf + gg no questions asked.
As soon as I logged on last night I joined his games vs deth and made sure to let dan know that it wasn't me. Now he knows for next time to come and post in the thread to say he is playing on my account.

Just another reminder that I need all participants to e-mail me (d.reball@aclpro.com.au) their replays after each qualifier. I'm getting my ass kicked by GosuGamers because I've got 3 peoples' replays after 2 qualifiers.
Bump. Still not getting any replays people. I'm really at a loss here. I need you to help me out.
Registration links for Bracket #3 and Bracket #4 have been added to the OP. Once again, if you signed up via Playhem, you'll have to do it again via the new Challonge links. Challonge account is required.
Also note that you can attach replays directly to the bracket during the event, if you don't want to be bothered e-mailing them to me at the end. Either way, I really need them. Sponsors are noooooot happy.
I just sent all mine, which would consist of all the top side bracket for the #2 quali so you should be good there. ( wasn't sure if you already had mine or not but resent them anyways ).
Bump. The next qualifier is THIS Wednesday! Sign up via the Challonge link in the OP and please, please, please send me your replays from the event! This is getting really, really bad.
(Sorry about the broken pics, my FTP is undergoing maintenance and will be back up tomorrow)
