Hi, I'm from teamiCHOR, have been running the team for the past 9 years and for the period between 2001 and 2005 managed PantheonES who offered logistic and tournament support (qualifiers, and finals) for World Cyber Games Australian events, CPL Australia events and in part ESWC events.
Benji you raise some good points, but when it comes to running competitive video gaming events I find that test events such as these are a good indicator of audience and competition know-how before you get into the 'serious game' of sponsorships and major prize pools. The cash prize comes from our pockets (lazyjai's specifically) and will be a launch pad into further events should we acheive some attention.
I have long lineage of eSports in Australia, having contributed greatly to Counter-Strike's movement during the early part of last decade, the WCG and CPL movements, but this would be my first foray into StarCraft (besides having relations with Legionnaire - I did not inhale). I can appreciate your skepticism Del, it's understandable and in my opinion needed within the industry, but I can assure you I have the best interests of the community at heart and would love to talk to you more about them should you want to.
