Jonathan “Jinro” Walsh of Team Liquid has announced his retirement from professional Starcraft 2 as of today, with a post on the teamliquid forums.
Liquid'Jinro has been practicing in South Korea since the early days of Starcraft 2, and posted fantastic results - making the semi-finals of the GSL Code S two seasons in a row, but has since been showing fewer and fewer noteworthy results. Even with his lackluster performances of late, he remains a strong fan favourite and idol for players worldwide.
In his heartfelt post, Jinro stated that his decision was not made lightly, and has been talked about with Liquid's manager Nazgul since May of 2011. Jinro said he realised that he no longer had the drive to compete and improve that he possessed in Starcraft: Brood War, but that he loved the experience and the opportunity to do what he dreamed of as a child.
Walsh will be staying in Korea, and moving on to play poker. He states that he is "tremendously excited at the prospect of re-learning poker and practicing BJJ.".
