If you open gasless vs reaper you're pinned inside your base for a while with a fragile style. If you **** up and hellions slip through you're fucked. If he has good reaper control you're probably gonna get hurt.

The other thing is that most terrans are opening with either solid timings or fast medivacs for creep clearance so the extra creep spread and defensive nature of 6queen is less relevant.

6 queen was borderline ******* overpowered (grumble grumble grumble) in wings because terrans were either sitting behind siege tanks so spreading creep was a ton easier (bio mine has a much better time fighting on creep then marine tank, though you still wanna avoid it if you can) and because zergs had a much easier time deflecting hellions and other timings. Whilst most basic terran units haven't changed an awful lot since wings, the fact that widow mines are a significantly cheaper and easier transition then siege tanks means we're free to do really dickish stuff to zerg.

Also queens are very slow to react to speed boosted medivac play.

Also terrans very rarely open up with hellion/banshee, which was 90% of TvZ back in wings. 6q was very good vs that.

tl;dr 4 queen is a better medium if you want to open gasless, if not, standard 15h, 16p, 16g take drones of gas after 100 then get 1-2 extra queens for creep spread is good solid opener

I usually only go 4queens. 6 is a little excessive, 4 is good enough. 1 hatch a queen and the remainder 2 will spread creep and deflect hellions.

Well, analytically, the number of queens you have on the map will always provide you with returns - for 150 minerals per queen, you get 200 energy, which translates to transfuses, creep tumours and injects.

The pros open with gas when they see the Terran open with barracks with gas. This usually means the Terran is going for reapers. If the Terran scouts that you went gasless, they will pretty much build 2, sometimes 3 reapers to pressure your mineral lines. That is why Zerg pros go for gas; to get ling speed to shoo off the reapers.

Personally, i do like the 4 queen opening (first two for 2 hatches, 3rd and 4th to spread creep then assign them to your third and macro hatches) as it transitions nicely towards a macro game while allowing you the ability to spread creep while deflecting early harass.

I hope you find my post to be helpful, in any case, if you like to find out more about Zerg builds or even a practice partner, do check out the Fusion Slugs website, or join our channel (Fusion Slugs Social) ^^
