Currently, it feels as if i've hit my skill cap, I don't seem to be improving at all anymore and each day I play it feels as ive my skill level is going down, instead of getting any better.
I don't know how to go that extra step to improve, I seem to be keeping a solid 50% win loss in high platinum to low diamond..
Does anybody have any advice on how to improve? If anybody wants to play some games or help practice, please feel free to add me at Toastyzeus.856
I don't know what I am supposed to be doing to step it up. From the leagues before where I am now everything I needed to do to improve seemed obvious (apart from when I was in bronze), but right now im kind of just "playing" and hoping that I will improve by myself, but its not really happening..
Sorry for the rant post, but if anybody wants to help me and practice, please add me at Toastyzeus.856
And feel free to share your learning methods.. because I am a little bit stuck.
When I was mid/high plat trying to get to Diamond, the best thing I did was take an interest in my replays. If you start to actually look into your replays and find the first mistake that you make, you can see if it's a common theme in your play-style. I often under-drone in ZvT and I can see that from my replays - by looking at the first 6-10 minutes of the game, I can see what makes me under-drone and work out how I can spot things that will allow me to determine what I can get away with.
I'd really recommend looking at your own play, Fixing macro mechanics is a massive help - supply blocks really hurt.
Finally, just chill out. You will improve if you embrace your losses.
TGM on this site is very useful also consider coaching if you really want to speed your improvement. Coaches have small things that you might not know that could decrease your work load thus increase your performance.
Talk tactics with your clan.
Here is a paraphrased thing I said to someone in the TGM.
It is hard to gauge if you are doing better or worse with out something to test against. If you use to play a few matches vs a known person(clan mate) go back and see how well you do against them after some practice.
Clear goals on what you wish to improve (replays are the source for these goals). Also if your looking for improvement dont check against a replay from yesterday compare with a replay from a week or a month ago. A small improvement might not be noticing able from day to day depending on stress, fatigue levels but a tend is easier to see with a bigger gap between them.
Also the better you get the harder people you will face so you might be playing better only being beaten by people who are better than the people you played before. Laddering will always try to keep you at a 50 50 win lost.
Try to focus only on one thing. Keeping orbital energy down. Always building SCVs. Never having production with out something qued for longer than a second. However if you try to focus on improving all 3 of those at once you may find no noticeable change. Once you have a build plan down focus on one aspect to improve it for at least a day each. Dont jump around to much in your focus or its not ... well focused. Hopefully this will help you not lose track of your planned improvements. With this in mind you can improve one aspect of play well losing due to another aspect then the next day start improving that aspect. Might help to write down a plan if your using this tactic.
Also keep in mind winning or losing isnt the only way to see if your improving check timing vs unit numbers for example.
Hope this was helpful basically just general advise for improvement if you want to be more focused you need to focus on where your skills are lacking which requires more information from you.
I'm a bit of a ladder warrior myself, and I've noticed that I am extremely confident with the first 10 minutes of any matchup, purely based on macro/scouting habits. Just by playing, you're already reinforcing patters/mechanics in your play, even by losing. The whitera quote comes to mind in regards to how well you do. Don't be afraid to lose some games, and you'll eventually push through your skill cap and hit GM!
