Hello All
As I sit here freezing my ass off i stumbled upon some old replays on one of my hardrives from my first month in Starcraft 2. I picked up starcraft having little RTS experience the only real RTS i remember playing is Age Of Empires. So i went into this quite blind the only reason i got Starcraft 2 was after being awe stuck by a review done by Good Game. Being only 12 at the time of release I had to beg for a solid month to get this game and after finally picking the game up i remember the pure joy I felt tearing open the box, Reading every line of the Manuel while it installed and when the game was finally ready to play i was shaking with excitement. I was not disappointed what so ever I started with the campaign as I had never really played any games online and I was in pure awe I loved every moment of it. Than came the time were i finally dared to take on the online world, being only 12 at the time I skipped the practice league with the thoughts that I would be an unstoppable force that no one would have a chance at beating..... Oh how wrong I was 4 six pools and a mass zealot push landed me and my terran skills in bronze. I constantly changed races back than with the mentality that if someone beat me id do exactly what they did until it failed. I cant remember why but I finally settled on zerg and that's when I showed some sign of improvement. This is were the majority of the replays came from it was almost painful for me too watch 5 ZvZ's in a row where I would never get speed, Every ZvP/T was a one base muta rush (Even for bronze I have no idea how this worked) and finally I remember my other ZvX build was a three base hydra push which i think I got from IdrA or something and this got me too the top of my bronze ladder several times but never got me that promotion I wanted so bad. After this I left the game for some time ever now and than I would pick it up but only for a short span of time. Than at the start of this year I for some odd reason felt a strong urge to play Starcraft 2 and this is were everything changed for me. I discovered that you could make a living from this game and that their was a huge community built around this game it cast a whole new light on starcraft. I once again started in bronze but with constant practice and frequently viewing VODS I managed to get out of the bronze league. It was a good night too all I can remember is winning a ZvZ and seeing that gleaming message pop up it was an amazing feeling I made sure to bolt out into the lounge room and inform my family it was really stupid I know but it felt amazing to work really hard on something and see it come together. From their I discovered I could actually go on the NA sever which was another amazing moment even back than I was a huge noob. The last couple of months have been amazing, after starting a new account (Ungrateful siblings FTW) I made it into diamond SEA and plat NA ( I never go on NA except for playhem dailies the community their is absolute shit ). I'm looking forward too competing in my local WCS qualifier in about a month and also too see what the future brings. This game is amazing and the SEA community is by far the best i recommend this game too everyone I know that PC games because of how life changing it is. Thanks everyone for reading i look forward to hearing about other peoples experience with this amazing game
I made the awesome decision of saving all my replays since Season 1. I was a bronze Protoss.
I had heard that ''4 gate rush'' was pretty good so I took to doing it every game. I straight up didn't know what the **** to do so I built 4 gateways after my first pylon and only when I had 600 minerals for the 4 gateways. There's plenty of replays like this of mine.
Anyway, I switched to Terran because I got bmed by a Terran team mate in 2v2 ''you scrub'' ''**** you, your shit'' etc. etc. and I was angry and wanted to defend my honor. I challenged him to a 1v1 and he promptly 3 raxed me with a big ''gtfo, build faster idiot.. YOUR BAD.''
Now i'm Gold league Terran - and probably just a little bit better than the guy who bmed me in season 1.
haha I went back and watched some old reps from season 1 a while ago. There was one vs Jerry from clan ToT where it was close air metalopolis and I went 1 base thor drop vs his 1 base muta! 3K mineral bank since 8:00 onwards! We were so pro :P
I remember playing FFA Fastest Map possibles before iccup gained traction in Brood War/SC1.
FMP was one of the most popular UMS maps back then, followed by some weird take on the Battle of Helm's gate (this was long after BW was out, of course, so FMP was around a long time). You basically had an infinite number of minerals that could stack an infinite number of workers. 1-BASE ALL DAY ERRYDAY.
'NO RUSH 20MIN' was typically the most common chat message, then they'd proxy rax you or cannon rush you. Or they actually wouldn't rush and just build a 3/3/3 carrier deathball.
The first time I got 4-pooled resulted in me joining my first clan, and my introduction to iccup around 2004(?). I honestly miss those times, there was a lot of wasted time on my part and it's pretty indicative of how my poor management skills would translate into high school/university, just coasting through doing the bare minimum (i.e 4 pooling or 8pool w/speed).
I somehow managed a C- rating on iccup, but eventually gave up on playing BW altogether and went to other games like Total War. I kinda wish I kept replays, but back then I was new to the concept of my games actually saving replays.
In SC2 I started off in Copper way back during the beta, and somehow managed Diamond at the end of Season 4 or 5, so that's progress.
Earliest replay was one I uploaded in August 2010 on sc2replays, oh god. http://sc2.replaycraft.com/game/1663...ce-VS-Frankie/ (likely can't open them, they're preeeeetty old, I dunno how SC2 treats replays from such early versions)
164 drones made? How the ****. I'm not sure if that's worse or the fact I made 40 hydralisks in a ZvT.
Decided to watch some old replays for the hell of it. I was shocked when my opponent said 'NR 15 mins' (and I agreed) and 6 pooled me.
One base roach play, one base mutas.. ahhh good times.
I've not played in about 6 months, gave it a go after reading your post.
Jumped right back in.. lose 4 hours of my life after what feels like minutes... bring out the old desk fan to keep me cool.... miss-clicking due to moving at a speed I've long since forgotten? FEELS GOOD!
Now I wonder why I ever stopped playing it.
My history is flailing around like a noob in many games, while thinking i'm an e-star.
Got the game end of last year, funny to see how far I've come. Floating 4k at 9:00, 15k at 14:00, two base ( half saturated ). Looking back, I wonder how I even won games.
My friends got me into the game, couple of guys who were bronze-silver level. When I started playing, I was competing to beat them; and this definitely led to me overtaking them on ladder fairly quickly. We were very competitive, so as a result, my first time on SC2 were my placement matches; skipped practice league completely. Placed in Bronze, and played ever since. Loving every moment!
My RTS history started with Age of Empires (original) running on my Pentium III desktop that crashed every 2-5 hours (probably why I'm now such a patient person). I was never ever really good at that game so naturally the only strategy I liked was creating priests and converting buildings and catapults to Christianity.
My first attempt at StarCraft was in BroodWar where I played 1 game as Terran. I had no clue how to play at all but my friends said they needed my help to beat this amazingly powerful enemy and to do that I would need to build a science vessel and EMP. So I did... I felt like the hero! Of course I died not long after having no clue how to play.
In university I started playing Warcraft 3 (I now had a Core2 laptop so no more restrictions from the P3 ****box) as the Undead race. This became the real foundation for my SC2 life (aside from sucking at games with guns) when eventually I decided to give SC2 a try choosing the protoss race because I felt it most strongly resembled my play style as Undead in WC3.
My first strategy I tried was an Immortal Drop after watching a replay by iNcontroL (which I can no longer find) and deciding "that's what I wanted to do". I have always thought InControl was awesome since a particular game because of his impeccable manners. I found that replay.
Ah, I remember those times where Protoss Strategy became General Chat and there was this guy that said that Mothership caused pollution thus it is bad then he challanged people on the Protoss Strategy and then I just went ahead and then some Protoss accepted his challenge and won with a 2gate (he was )
That's what convinced me to stay and play this game until I switched to Terran and got to Gold (I was a at the time )
Good times.
