Greetings all!
It has been some time since I've been active on here as I've been busy with Uni and Work and life in general... soooo I thought I'd come back and make a general dicussion about Computer specs... As i don't know much about specs these days I'm kinda looking for what specs do what and whats good (i might upgrade my computer soon)

So here is my question... If you could make a new computer what are the specs you would like... be as specific or as vauge as you want... but I'd like you to also say why you want those specs.... Also I had a quick look for a spec thread and couldnt see one... so i thought id make one

Personally I have no idea... I dont have much money to work with so lets put a price cap at like 2grand

Now what would you make and why? (assuming you had 2grand too lol)

2 grand? If you're building a pc you can easily get a top quality rig for under 2 grand. Ever built one before?

yeah the one i have now I built for $1700 with custom parts and stuff... but its almost 3 years old now. I'm more curious to see what everyone else would do with the same amount and see what would differ between people

PCs getting cheaper & cheaper over the years.

So many options now, you can easily get a power demon under $2k. Really just comes down to what you really need or don't need.

Personally anything i7 + 16gb ram + SSD HD makes me a happy camper~

Provided you aren't doing alot of video/media processing, i7 is pointless. 95% of games dont make use of hyperthreading

Personally if I was to spend in the ballpark of 2k on a PC right now this is what I would get.(The 2x 500GB drives aren't a mistake, they are for RAID-0)

But it's basically overkill for most use unless you are streaming + gaming. I do run virtual machines and do some video editing though when I'm not gaming so I like to have a bit more grunt available.

For pure gaming though this is what I would probably go for.

if you're not the type that travels alot a desktop > laptop for gaming anytime.

if you arent gonna stream or edit videos or stuff an i5 will cover everything without issues, along with 8gb ram

I'm more interested in a general discussion of whats better for what =)

Tho if i were to upgrade my computer i'd use it for all sorts of things.. I'm studying games design at uni so i need a pretty beefy comp... and i wouldnt mind getting back into streaming in the future... so maybe something good for rendering and capturing video and stuff... what you reckon?

Case: ThermalTake V9 Case
Power: Corsair HX750 PSU
CPU Cool: Noctua NH-D14

If anyone has any suggestions about what is useful there and what can be changed I am all ears.

the Noctua D14 is not really necessary is it? I mean, a U12 is the majority of the performance without the ridiculous size/weight of the D14.

I also really hate that case, not sure how cheap it is now though, but you can almost certainly do better.
