i just played against a masters player, ranked 30th. I am high plat, but i dont know how my mmr is high enough to play a masters player. blizzard y u make no sense

Im diamond and got matched evenly against a GM
Blizzard have made match making give players a wider range of opponents so sometimes you will play someone 2 leagues higher or lower than you

This has a thread? seems like a chatbox-question to me.

Can be many things, your high MMR, theirs could've been low, they could have recently been promoted to masters (And plat - diamond isnt that far), meaning their MMR after losing a few games could be comparable, it also could've been plain dumb luck - if there arent many players searching you either get stuck waiting an obscene amount of time or you get matched a bit more... freaky. idk.

perhaps the master player is on a losing streak and is about to be demoted? or the system kept trying to find a match for him (or you) and could not find opponent(s) of equal skill and thus started searching for closest opponent above/below your/his level?

you're in platinum - obviously your mmr is higher than your average platinum player.

mmr is a MOVING AVERAGE. so as of that moment in matchmaking, your mmr could have been at diamond level. that is not to say you are AT diamond level, but your mmr was.

masters player mmr was perhaps low. perhaps it had dipped into diamond level mmr. you both search at the same time. you get paired.

SEA doesn't have a lot of players, this happens all the time. I went on a massive rage-filled losing streak the other day and I was playing gms and plats multiple times in the same session.

Depends on what time you're playing as well, you're likely to face Higher or Lower league players at like say 3am in the morning since there's less players
