hey all i have been experienceing a lack of sleep and as you will see this was posted around 3ish am and i am wondering what the sc2sea.com community might suggest i do.
so here is a list of things being caused from lack of sleep
1 falling asleep at school
2 not going to school
3 stress from not phsicalaly being able to do anything
4 a disbelief that i am sick of sorts
5 depression
all suggestions will be looked at
but please be serious if possible as this is a serious matter
thanks for any help given
go to bed at 9-10pm and just lay there until morning. Even if you dont feel like you are sleeping your still getting REM cycles which solves the above issues.
Try going to bed 15-30 min earlier each night over a few weeks and your body should adjust. Just takes discipline
Basiclly this, is what i'd suggest aswell.
Also i find sleeping problems occur if your sleeping patterns change drasticly (almost 3am for me, so spelling is worse then normal atm) it can make it harder to sleep.
it all comes down to motivation. trust me, i've been through all of what you listed. what interests you in life? what did you used to dream about growing up. what are your hobbies? you need to find something to make you want to wake up i nthe morning

1 making videos for youtube be it lets play casting sc2 or short films
2 um personal but dreaming was generaly stupid comic nightmares, but sometimes would be a mixture of games and reality, eg starship troopers brisbane (D um isk really cant remember that much
3hobbies gaming and soccer (only gaming now because of my ashma)
also does this help

ok well 1 i hop into bed around 10ish
this varies if i have lots of school work or not
2 i mainly just lay here not doing anything , i have tried listening to music , watching a movie reading a book. but i just seem to finish the movie and sometimes read the whole book.
3 i walk some distance to and from school (to the bus 10- 15 min walk)
does this info help ?

I have the exact same problem mate, and my suggestion would be to do what Bard said. However i would also exercise more if at all possible, even if really tired. Try joining a 24 hour gym if you're old enough, that way when you can't sleep you can go get some exercise and hopefully reset your sleep pattern a little bit easier.
Secondly, about some of the problems you listed, i'll give you advice that i have personal experience with. Go talk to someone about it. A school/uni counsellor or just a doctor. If you're stressed in your life, you will avoid doing things you should and it becomes a spiral that you can't control. It was the best thing i ever did, and it seems like the worst thing in the world before you do it, but it seriously helps. I've been sleeping better as well now my life is back under control.

I suffer from heaps of sleep related issues mate. PiG already basically explained the top reason for not sleeping mine were, Not exercising, eating lots of food late at night, sleeping too long into the afternoon and not actually ?burning? energy throughout the day
Here's what I did to fix a lot of my issues
#1 Wake up every morning at 7am. NO MATTER WHAT (even if you couldn't sleep the night before just ******* wake up at that time and don't sleep through the day
#2 Work out your diet. Eat 3 big meals throughout the day. Snacks/treats are fine but you have to cut them out of your system by at least 5pm.
#3 Work out, find time in your day to exercise, it may sound dreadful but exercise is the biggest factor in sleep related problems.
#4 Have a healthy state of mind, if you are depressed about something or feeling extremely anxious about life and times, go see a doctor to help sort things out. You'd be amazed at how many people say they can't sleep and they don't know why, however in their own world are stressed out and depressed about things.
I'm in the same boat man, I haven't actually gone to bed tonight either. Had this problem for about a year and a half now. Pills help, but they really aren't a solution.
For me, it's mostly anxiety based or something. I don't really enjoy anything. I hate what I do at uni, but after so much time and money spent (tens of thousands of dollars in debt already) I'm pretty much obligated to finish it. Being around people often feels like a hassle that I'll generally go out of my way to avoid. Desperately searching for something that I love that I can work towards. It just feels like something is missing, though I'm not sure what that is exactly.
Ugh, sorry for derailing. Hope that you work something out.
I have the same problem. So far the only solution I have found is to exercise heavily each day, and take melitonin 1 hour before I go to sleep a couple of nights a week. Pilots use it to reset their sleeping clock in different countries and its all natural so you dont get particularly groggy or anything.
I also go to bed and watch GSL while I fall asleep every night. Something about the commentators voices and the background music always makes me feel sleepy.
Some people have sleep phase disorders where they operate better within the hours of like 11am-1pm rather than the 8am-10pm that the majority of the world seems to be awake in. Theres no real solution and I think a lot of gamers would have a similar issue.

I hv this problem when my mind is actively still thinking of a problem and all its possible solutions. For example, if I just had a lateintense game of sc2 and i was thinking of possible counters or ways I could had done it betters OR just work related problems that I was working on. So it might be good to avoid such activities just before bedtime. Set a bedtime routine to wind down (soft music, an easy reading book, some generally quieter activities) and stick to a time to go to bed.
Hope this helps
i thank you all for your help.
these are the things i have gathered from reading this thread while half asleep in my first class.
1 i need to exercise more. i know i should do a bit more but i dont have the time to Exercise , Do shit for my youtube, and do school work all in the hours of 3pm - 10.
to answer thgat thing about the 24 hour gym i wish i could do this but the closest gym is like a 1 hr ride from where i live. it takes 30 mins to get to town and it would by estimation be another 30 mins to get to that side of town. some mornings i use to walk around the block (4 am - 430 am) but as in the winter months getting out of bed is very regretable.so this inst a viable option.
2nd thing i got from this is a healthy diet and trust me i have a awesome diet with my mum as a awesome chef and step dad who can make some awesome Asian Style foods, plus having lots of home grown veges and fruit is epic.
also about the doctor
we went last week and still waiting for the results. (this was for falling unconcius 3 times of 6 months . they are looking into all the things that may have caused it. i believe it is because of major sleep deprivation. but ive had some ex rays , blood tests, and some heart shit .
so conclusively i think it is as some say for they a anxiety thing. i generaly hate school because im not doing well. but every day i make the full day i go home sleep from 3 - 4 then am up all night.
and end up not going to school the next day.
i know this might be weird to some me just opening up like this but seriously i want to find out what the problem is and this thread has helped me thanks
oh and some of the stress comes from me failing at tasks given to me eg i did a terrable cast for a Esport team. this made me angry at my self . yet i could do the HSL ones with ease. also same thing happened with school i failed at making a english (australian story like program ) some shit about adolescence . sorry this is going on but when i get sick i think i go down mentaly as well .....
i thank you all for your help.

You say you have no time to exercise. Exercise can take as little as 15 minutes a day. When I was really inactive and had a terrible sleep schedule staying up until 9am some nights I eventually got sick of it and started doing short exercise routines most nights.
2x20 pushups, if you can't do this many do as many as possible properly then the rest on your knees.
2x50 situps.
2x20 bicep curls - If you don't have dumbells just do something like squats or lunges (youtube them if not sure how to)
That can be done in 15 minutes easily and would burn enough energy and use enough muscles to untense my eyes and brain and relax me so I could sleep much easier.
As for diet absolutely agree with Neko's post it has great advice about no snacking in the evenings. However it sounds like you have a great diet and am envious I wish I ate more fresh fruit and vegies!
As you said it sounds like it's anxiety related and doing a bit of exercise will help somewhat but I doubt it will remove the root of the problem. I'm no expert in this stuff except but once again from my experiences I always found 23Nemesis' "write it all down on a piece of paper" each night to be great once i finally managed to motivate myself to do it. I would write out my whole dilemma and categorise and organise it into what I could do about it, and plan what I had to simply forget about, and what I had to get done on what days. Once it's on the paper and I know when I have to do it all I would then push it from my mind and find sleep somewhat easier.
Another thing is what Zain and some others have said about overstimulating yourself. I've personally known people who say "I can't sleep" and yet only try for 5 minutes and then hop back onto the internet, play games or eat junk food/soda. Now obviously your situation is more intense then this but be aware that the internet, games and such are all the opposite of what you should be doing. In late adolescence I had serious problems sleeping and I taught myself 'meditation' techniques where I would force myself to lie flat on my back in the same position and then basically speak to myself in my head. I would run through a scene where my voice was telling me that I was on a warm beach, lieing in the sand and would describe the warmth of the sand and how comfortable it was and describe little pleasurable things about my surroundings. I think beaches have always been one of my favourite place and to me it's like my happy place being alone on a deserted warm beach. I would then tell myself to focus on one part of my body at a time and to feel it melt like liquid into a state of relaxation. I've always looked up to myself and taken what I've said very seriously. So I would listen to my own voice talk myself to sleep... all in my head.
Hmm... that actually sounds a lot more crazy then it actually was! But the idea is you control your mind and your body. And if you learn the right methods you can manipulate and steer it through certain methods.
P.S. Get a massage, they rock. If too pricey get one from a massage school for free or 1/10 the price

You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later.
Does sound like it's anxiety/stress related. I was once given this advice, to write down the problem or any solutions my mind churns out, on a piece of paper, and just go to bed knowing that I won't forget it and can forget it until the next morning. So sometimes even in the dark, I just scribble some ideas that my mind refuses to let go off (perhaps in fear that I might forget), on a piece of paper. Mentally telling myself that sleep is more impt for me and that problem has just to wait till morning because realistically, there is nothing I can do about it at night anyway.
For example, u mentioned u felt u did a terrible cast for a Esport team and that made u angry. Ur mind might also be telling u, u shd had done or done that or not do this or that. Write it all down on a piece of paper. Then go to bed knowing that for good or bad, it's there and u won't forget it and you can work on the ideas or improving the next day. It can even be considered a journal or diary.
lack of sleep will make u more upset and angry and eventually your body feels lousy and u might fall sick. Take care...
thanks man i shall try this. i have had a few things suggested to me i will see what i can do about combining them to get the best effect.
i think it should be of importance that after 3 odd days of minimal sleep sometimes i will sleep for 12 + hours is this normal ?
for eg friday -sat sleeep at 9 am sat, sat- sun waking up at 10- 12ish (i cant remember) sleep at dawn sunday morning. Sunday to monday - around 2 hours sleep (4 am - 6 am then rush to get ready for school ) came home then slept from 10pm monday night - 4 pm tuesday afternoon :/
