SC2 on Mac

Hey sc2seans,

Im wondering if many (or any) others out there play on mac? I have an older macbook pro 17in which has done me well during uni and for work.

Trying (and failing) to improve micro with retarded mouse software is killing me. I know there are stacks of different programs to help override macosx stupid lack of config (USB Overdrive, Steermouse etc) but I cant find a setup that works for my current mouse and keyboard. (I dont want to use bootcamp either, everything I use is macosx)

Do any of you use razor or steelseries gear on your mac?

Or are there any masters/gm players who are willing to confess to terrible micro and have some advice or how to compensate?

*nervous about mac/pc flaming*

Hi qwid,
Up until very recently, I used a 13in standard macbook. With large amounts of pain, aggravation and constant rage, I got from bronze to grandmaster. However, I wouldn't recommend it. As soon as I bought a PC, life became a lot easier. Not only are macs slow in everything game related, they also can't handle programs such as xsplit for streaming.
Not too sure what you mean about the mouse thing though, I used a Razer Deathadder and a standard logitech keyboard and experienced no issues. As far as I am aware of, all the Steelseries and Razer gear works on Macs.

GM Player, 15" MBP. The only micro I do is infestor harass, pre splits, and flanks. Granted I play Zerg so micro isn't essential, when I need to micro I don't find it too hard, as in when I offrace as Terran I have decent stutter step ect.I have a steelseries sensei mouse as the only extra I use. I may have fiddled with the mouse acceleration but I can't tell if it's still turned off or not.

Just get used to your current mouse/settings and you'll be fine, the biggest issue for me is the 10 fps during big battles, which, when trying to use infestors, sucks.

Good to know other mac players are doing well. Grats on GM! How the hell you did that on a 13in :| Makes it easier though I just need to get a better mouse and keep learning

Its helpful that both Sensei and DeathAdder mice work fine, they're the two I've been looking at.

Don't feel glum qwid I too play on Mac. I used to play on a 13-inch MBP and now I play on a 27-Inch iMac. The default mouse settings are quite bad and acceleration is set up for trackpads so it is useless for SC2. However, all is not lost! For I wrote a guide (well I wrote where to find a guide) on how you can disable mouse acceleration on a Mac (for good) over on LearningSC2.com.

http://learningsc2.com/improving-you...ndows-and-mac/

I also use a Razer Deathadder and I will soon be buying a Das Keyboard (money permitting). And I have had no problems. In fact - I prefer the position of the Command key over the CTRL key for creating control groups. (Command groups as is my case xD)

Hope this helps! Gaming on a Mac doesn't have to be an unpleasant experience.

The only buttons I use is left click, right click & wheel click
Dont need to click other buttons and I am in high Gold

The only problem I had back in the day playing on my mac laptop is that it would get hot to the point that I was nervous to keep playing in case it exploded. Mind you, I was gold to plat around that time so having the perfect mouse settings and such didn't bother as much.

PC will definitely be better in the long run but I'm sure there are a lot of ways around it. No doubt a lot of people game on macs. Don't gaming products come with mac osx installer versions now?

Most Razer stuff does I believe. I have used my Razer gear on my Macbook Pro, installed drivers etc without any issues.

I use Logitech G500 mouse and a corsair k90 keyboard on my MBP 13''... runs well, only play on the MBP occassionally though, I definitely play worse on it but I'd attribute that to a lack of experience with RTS on laptops... on another note... Glossy screens rape my eyes.

Matte.

I just picked up a deathadder today (plus a goliathus control). SUCH a ridiculous improvement in comfort speed and precision. Only problem is how buggy the Deathadder app is for osx, pretty poor effort for a company like razer. (Anyone been able to assign button 4 and 5 to be back and forward? Google wont help)

Will take a little while adjusting to a great mouse with NO ACCELLERATION.

I used to have serious heat problems but I got a stand which holds my mac about 10cm up from the desk. And if Im at home during the day I have terrible glare issues in my room :| Super shiny pretty screen melts eyes.

Unfortunately Im in no position to get a decent pc setup anytime soon. Not being a hugely serious gamer Im happy with my setup, if a little frustrated at times.

Very cool to see a bunch of mac users. I figured there'd be a few in hiding.

I play it on my iMac 21.5 inch, Graphics are set too low and it's impossible to multitask other programs while having it running (Skype, websites, etc).

Actually have to log out..

if you have trouble with mouse acceleration on a mac, use this:
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/view...opic_id=194668

Set your graphic quality to lowest. Remember to turn off Time Machine.

For the mac, Razer Death Adder offer the best performance and software. You can set your mouse 4 & 5 to anything you want.
Steelseries also offer great performance, but bear in mind that their software is not for Mac, you will have to plug the mouse into a windows machine, and set it up, then use it with your mac.

Also, USB Override is a good 3rd party choice for your keyboard shortcut and setting your mouse buttons.
