Having trouble getting better at SC2? Cant keep up with all of the tasks in-game?
Science suggests this is what a spoon would look like if it wasn't improving at starcraft 2
Although those are practically both the same question, one good way to achieve both is to set yourself small goals, that allow you to make small jumps in your play, and bit by bit (prime), you'll find yourself becoming a better and better player.
How can you effectively set up these goals, you may ask? Why, use the 3-goal system!
Its as easy as it sounds. Simply look at your game, and set up 3 goals. But be as specific as possible. Dont state something like:
1. Improve macro
Because then you probably won't achieve the original goal, of improving yourself bit by bit. The idea is to look at the smaller picture, to achieve the bigger picture. So instead of "Improve macro", try something like:
1. Inject more constantly than before
This is better than:
1. Inject constantly
Because you're simply improving yourself, not perfecting yourself. Why not try to perfect it initially? Because this is a bit by bit process, like I said before. Because you'r not looking to improve it to be perfect, you can simply work on the goal one day, and when you're satisfied with how far you've progressed, you can work on other parts of your play in order to try and ensure everything is being improved at a steady rate. A good example is if you are injecting constantly, but not actually spending all of your money, it could be useful to shift goals around.
Of course, you need to be able to analyse your own game effectively to be able to create effective goals, which is where replay watching can come in handy. In fact, it can sometimes be good to just speed through some replays at x4-8 speed to try to spot any consistent mistakes in macro or decision making.
I usually set myself up 3 goals every few days, and generally try to make them easy and different each time. Of course, there is allowance for overlap if I notice a goal hasn't been achieved a few days later. If this occurs, I try to dumb down the goal to make it smaller and more achievable. It hasn't failed so far, as I can see myself progressing to master league, currently high diamond.
Have any better ideas to structure improvement? Post below! ^_^
Goal #1 - be able to answer 3 most important questions in the game:
-Do you know what your opponent is doing? If no, go scout
-Do you know his army size and composition? If no, go scout
-Do you know his income? If no, go scout
Goal #2 - be able to answer most important three questions in the game at certain time without scouting.
-What can zerg do at 9 min? Drop/push/tech/expand.
-What can zeg have at 9 min? 9999 roaches, 1 drone, ice cream cone and sunglasses
-How many workers does a particular build allow for at 9 min? 44 drones. Otherwise you lack, say, larva.
Goal #3 - be able to answer most important three questions in the game by evaluating opener and style.
#1 To stop getting supplied blocked EVER, I usually start slipping on depots after my first CC at about 54 supply.
#2 Get out of my base and pressure more. I have bad habit of staying in my base or around my expo until I'm maxed.
#3 Learn stutter micro with marines.
My injects on 3 base with no aggression or pressure being put on me are near perfect. I usually don't miss an inject so my queens energy are always low when I finish an inject(<15), so I'm thinking of making a 2nd queen earlier so I can creep and walk her over to my nat, and I'm pretty good with creep spread so..
#1 Initiating Creep Spread
Then the usual. I get supply blocked at 36/36, and around 150/150. Obviously this kills me at times especially early pressure or delayed pressure.
#2 Carefully watching supply
And watching where my army is compared to my opponent. I usually engage in dumb places, chokes ramps and letting my opponent get the better spot to engage. So I want more map presence and I want to often scout my opponent with sac lings to see his army composition.
My macro and micro is fine until I expand or start getting a supply over 100 the I get muddled up. Any tips on what to focus on for a Protoss player trying to leave bronze? I'm trying this three goal idea basically my three are.
1 build drones
2 continue to macro while in battle
3 use sentry abiltys
So many times I have lost due to a late force field particulary against Zerg
Actually can i add a fourth even if it breaks the rules,
4. while in bronze expect cheese. (after five games in a row with at least one of every race all going for early all in cheese. Me losing)
There are two things you need to do to survive cheese.
1) Choose a safe opening build (example TvZ 2rax expand, TvP 2rax (techlab and reactor addon) expand)
2) Scouting! Figure out what he's doing (gas, peon count, tech, production, expand).
2a) If in doubt scan/sac overlord etc.
2b) If still in doubt invest in some static defence (bunkers, spines, forcefield).
2c) If you scout a rush, invest in static defence! don't skimp on just 1 bunker/spine! and be ready to pull scvs/drones etc.
1. Constantly build workers until I reach a given cut-off point.
2. Try and gain scouting info on the opponents build to counter appropriately.
3. Macro consistently in relation to my second goal.
Unfortunately I tend to lose track and focus on one thing at a time.
