Yep, Blizzard is showing something new and interesting at PAX East
You’ll have to excuse this somewhat short update to our original post, but Blizzard has confirmed that they will be showing something interesting and new at PAX East. I asked a Blizzard representative if the invite was to see and play DIablo 3, and I was told this is something different.
“As mentioned in the invite, this is a little something, different from what we’ve previously announced or talked about, and not a sequel, etc,” I was told. I also confirmed that Diablo 3 will be at PAX East, but again, this is something different.
This is fascinating. It’s different than what the company has talked about, it’s not a sequel, and it’s different from what was previously announced. So what does that leave? Some have guessed that we’ll see Blizzard All-Stars, but that’s something that was previously announced. So what’s left?
Here’s the original invitation text: “We’ve been working on a little something, different from our other games, and we’re pleased to invite you to be the first to see it. It’s not a sequel, expansion, or that rumored next-gen MMO, but it’s something we’re excited for you to get your hands on.” So the new information is basically just a repetition of what we already knew, but they did confirm that this is distinct from the playable version of DIablo 3.
Okay, that’s all I have to go on. I’m curious for your thoughts: what do you think we’re going to see?
As a long time fan of Blizzard this gets my internal hype meter (which is already near maxed from HotS) at boiling point. Speculation time! What do you think friends?
My immediate thoughts is that this has something to do with Blizzard Dota, we havent really heard much info about it since Blizzcon 2011 (or atleast I havent), maybe theyve looked at games like Smite and decided to take Blizzard Dota in another direction?
whatever it is, Im sure itll knock our booties off!

They mentioned that it's not something previously announced or talked about, and they've definitely talked about that! I wonder what it is.... Very very curious
I was gonna say their new MMO, but if it says it's not I guess not...I'm clueless. Perhaps a joint FPS venture with Activision? Maybe even an attempt at some special piece of hardware?
Damnit, now I'M getting excited.
my guess is some form of MOBA.
long time blizzard fan here too, since 1994, although i found them to be slipping a little since they merged into activision, still one of the best developers around though!
Wasn't there an episode of a show.. Big bang theory maybe? A few years ago that featured Halo and had Blizzard Entertainment credited in the credits? Maybe this is a joint venture in some kind of FPS mixing Halo and the Starcraft universe (out of all their games this makes the most sense for an FPS) and with the addition of Diablo 3 on Ps3/4 it could be Blizzard's way of entering the Console Market.
Id be willing to pet its Titan, the MMO they have been working on for like 6 years now; 6 years sounds about right for an MMO development of blizz standard so it could well indeed be that. Also fits well with having a blizzcon this year even though at the moment there are no blizzard 2014 releases for them to show off.

Isnt that what starcraft ghost was supposed to be before it got canned?
it was canned 8 years ago, i doubt they would be digging it up, and it wouldn't really be something new. u guys have your hopes up for nothing
Castercraft - You watch two AI's battle each other in various blizzard owned games while making witty and insightful commentary; you win when you lose your sense of sanity or your voice.
This is so sexciting. Maybe its Warcraft 4 or if it isn't a sequel, maybe a new game? Blizzard has already got war of the past,Warcraft; war of the future,Starcraft; time for modern warfare!
If it's not more D3 playstation footage it's gotta be either Blizzard All-Stars or Project Titan, and I highly doubt they'd be starting up the hype train for titan this early.
It’s not a sequel, expansion, or that rumored next-gen MMO
They wouldn't unveil something THAT big at PAX, they'd wait until Blizzcon to showcase their newest, highly anticipated IP.
As much as I'd like to see Blizzard All Stars, they've been advertising the same positions for the team for over a year now. Any recent developments would have been undertaken by the SC2 team and they've had their hands full with HOTS, so I dunno. Curious.
Clutching at straws here, but there was a hotsale on THQ games and concepts - perhaps Blizzard is going to revitalise some of the great games produced by THQ? Guess we will have to wait and see!

Blizzard announced last year they were developing a social gaming platform called Activate (think cross between Steam & Zynga). My guess is that it's finally ready.
"Some of the features available to developers with the Activate platform are friends lists, leader boards, achievements, invites, and cloud storage to allow players to access their saved games on multiple devices. Players will be able to log in from their Facebook accounts, and an Activate account will be required to utilize the online modes in all supported games."

The only problem with this is, as the name implies it seems to be shared between Activision and Blizzard so why would Blizzard itself by hyping it, and sending invites to MMO press. Also it's apparently already launched as of the end of last year as the back end for some Activision mobile games, AND was already announced.

Also that chart is 'as of 2010' - I heard Activision pushed them to release things early
Isn't Blizzard owned by Activision?...
Technically "Activision Blizzard" is a holding company that has a majortiy stock in both Activision and Blizzard.
My point was more if this was them announcing their joint steam/origin/social network thing that would be for both Blizzard games and Activision games you would think that would be handled by Activision and it's PR as the publisher side, not by Blizzard and it's PR, especially given that it's called Activate which is a very Activision associated name.
If Activision had been pushing things to be released early they've done a pretty poor job of it thus far as almost everything on there has slipped by a year.

Ahhh.. I see your point Dingo.. I'd say there are more hype fends following the twitter feeds etc of Blizzard exec's than of Activision, thus the info pre-leak from Blizzard. Could very well be a joint launch at PAX..
"it's something we're excited for you to get your hands on."
"PAX East next week and I'm still not ready with the announcement for our next game... work work work"
"this is a little something, different from what we’ve previously announced or talked about..."
I don't know if they are throwing up red herrings or not! There are references to Diablo, Warcraft & Starcraft around this release, so maybe it is All-stars after all. If it's not All-stars, then I'll put my money on the mobile/social platform.
After talking to the Blizzard ANZ reps after the HotS Launch in Melbourne, I am pretty sure it will be Blizzard All Stars. There were some hints in the D3 for Playstation announcement a while back. Was hoping for Ghost but that is vapour ware now.
They also said that the announcement will relate to the eSports focus Blizzard has which bodes well. So again it points at BAS, specially when you look at the references to the Blizzard worlds.
On another note, they will be at PAX Aus but not with their own booth at this stage.
Other stuff to keep in mind is that Activision Bizzard, as a publicly traded company has a duty to their share holders to tell them wtf is going on especially with regards to stuff that might affect their dividend, if they're announcing something it's unlikely to be something they'll be releasing immediately or something huge. (though Q2 of 2013 finishes at the end of this month)
The only things in their last quarter conference call for upcoming projects were Titan and AllStars.
Some more speculation:
WoW Trading Card Game Expansion, PAX seems a more appropriate venue than Blizzcon.
Maybe not the release of All-stars but maybe beta? Someone found this image on BNET not too long ago:
I guess one count against it being All Stars related is that Rob Pardo's going to be there, now Pardo has a ton of involvement with a bunch of different things at Blizzard given that he's basically head of their design side but more recently he's been associated with their MMO's not the Diablo/SC2 side.

Blizzard DESTROYED the lore of Warcraft with WoW, and while I had massive amount of fun playing WoW, I can never really forgive it for turning amazing and memorable characters like Kael'thas and Illidan into random raid bosses to kill.

Well I am both sad and disappointed... Sounds like every card game ever apart from the fact you pay for cards you don't even get to touch. It also seems to be far too simple among a myriad of other things.
EDIT: Dox too fast

If anyone else is keen remember to go and change your "Beta profile settings" on battle.net
This could be cute as hell- it could also be the worst thing since D3 launch, hoping its the former- depends how $$ hungry they are, and how its balanced.
This seems really .."not blizzard" - but given the goals set out by this new dev team "15 devs, faster dev cycles" its a cute idea.
