Over three days of competition we will find the best player to represent our region at the WCS 2016 Spring Championship. The player deserving of such a title will face off against 31 of the the world's best players on the world stage. So start warming up those hands and pay close attention to the following information to find out how you can have your shot at the World Championship Series.
Just as a public announcement while I will still oversee and manage StarCraft II in our region for WCS, Ascarecrow and Bloodyrafe will be the head admins for ESL StarCraft II in our region so they are the people to talk to about issues for the tournament, sign up processes etc.
Please make them feel welcome, they have both worked extensively with ESL NA and will be valuable assets.
We'll be working through issues throughout the weekend so please be vocal with problems you run into.
So as a PSA for cuddles and anyone else struggling to link their profile:
You have to play all 5 placement matches to get ranked, then find your profile on nios.kr - your name on nios should be clickable and will take you to your profile page on bnet.
edit: god damnit jessie were were you 24 hours ago :P

hey guys several players did not have diamond+ accounts linked to their accounts ive sent esl messages to each of them everyone please check. any issues feel free to message me.
The four invited players based off performances in WCS 2015 are:
Iaguz
Petraeus
NXZ
Blysk
For Season 2 and 3 the 4 players who made it to the Ro4 in the season prior will be the four selected to skip the open qualifier and go directly into the Round of 16.
i would like to formally apologise to everycompetitor about our internet. We struggled to get people to sub in for us while our internet was down and sorry for the delays and issues we created. Next time someone in the ESL staff has issues we will have replacements ready to take over. Our internet in Canberra disconnected for 3 hours in the area we live in, including friends and family internet.
Are you guys going to announce the brackets for stage 2 soon or only just prior to the day? Would love to see the brackets and get the hype going. Gives the players good chance to prepare specifically and show good games for their fans.

Second this. If we get reasonable time notice that would be great. This way we can hype the matches, even put out some pre match analysis content. All which helps to promote the event.

Big downer was the admin situation for the Open Qualifier - while a freak of nature being the reasoning behind it (severe storms knocking out internet to half of Canberra) we have made steps to ensure the time between emergency staff coverage is minimised.
I was super happy with how the set turned out, even better than I imagined in my head but interested to hear how everyone else found it.
If you ever need a freelance emergency Administrator for tournaments, in case freak events happen again. I'm happy to help out.
Loved the cast, and the production. ACL has really stepped up its game lately. Having the cast from the studio made such a difference, in my opinion! Kudos for a great show

Was great. Admin issues sucked but totally understandable. Would like to see a less top heavy prize pool. Top 4 get good money plus ro4 tournament money. Pay out to top 12 would be tops hehehe.
Only other thing is i would like to see this or another ACL event live not online (if possible).
Looking forward to more events from acl.
I thought the production and set were great, and the fact that it was streamed on the main starcraft stream was awesome! Admin issues did suck, but hey we got through it. I know I have mentioned it before to the admins, but the seeding relating to walkovers was very weird, should be looked into.

Yeah sorry, this was one thing that I didn't like.
My thoughts; if you forfeit games after placing high enough to get seed you are last in any seeds regardless of your map score. If there are multi forfeits on a tied seed then go back to map score and place anyone who actually played their games for tied seed above those that didn't.
Also, for the bigger parts of the tournament Ro16 etc... Run two streams. Run a B-Stream so we can catch all the awesome games.

yeah I think this is a good idea. Discourage people from forfeiting
Only thing I can think of that was disappointing (from a spectator's standpoint, as I was busy and couldn't enter qualifiers) - The prize pool that was on Liquipedia, which was apparently incorrect, favored having a less top-heavy distribution.
Myself, and a number of others, all signed up with a massive amount of excitement seeing such a great chance for the people scraping in outside the top 8 to make some money.
Sure, the people at the top would probably like the extra money, but if it's more spread out there's a greater chance of rewarding the up and coming talent and increasing motivation.
Thanks Baldiemate, and thanks everyone else who was involved in running this~

It was actually right, just weird because 5-8th = 1-4th on day 2
Yeah haha it was pretty funny when people were telling me I won $300 and then I got excited and told my parents and then 15min later people were tellin me I actually didn't win anything
awkward conversation with my parents ensued
WCS was really cool, I enjoyed it. Did some preparation nice feeling being amongst the top contenders, even if I'm not exactly right up there on their level.
Only suggestion I could make is some sort of seeding system for the open qualifier, as I feel like I kinda 'cheated' my way into the top 16 when there were better players then me who missed out.

only first season is random seedings next season will have proper seedings. it was to give up and comers a chance.
Using the Starcraft twitch channel was a brilliant idea
Having 3 live casters rotating was great!
Studio looked good.
Admin power outage was out of anyone's control (But might be a good idea to have someone with ESL site permissions on standbye in future.)
I would like to see some changes to the format to align with standards for LOTV - Bo5's are the way to go! (Usually done in the time of old HOTS Bo3's.)
$10000 is also an amazing prizepool! Should be shared to top 16 (making top 16 is a good achievement). Rewarding top 4 with double payment is a bit strange (worked when there was a clear challenger/premier, but as it's now one tournament, with 1 player advancing, doesn't work imo).
I'd also like to see things slow down a bit, don't rush through the bracket. Show more games/players (or arrange a 2nd stream). It's a big tournament, with big $'s on offer. Players can put in a bit more time, and i'm sure would like the exposure. It seemed a lot of day 1 was spent casting the top 4 guys playing for seeding, who ended up being casted again the next day. Changing to the EU/NA format would eliminate this.
