[WCS]Europe Season 3: Playoffs - European Zergs vs Beasts from the East
06 October 2013 02:00 AM AEST
With European Champion Starcraft Player: Stephano hanging up his mouse at the end of Season 2 many asked who would be the European Zerg to step up and take the mantle. WCS Season 3 has seen not one but 3 's take up the call to action.
Nerchio This is the first time since HotS that Nerchio has made the Top 8 in a Premier tournament. For a long time Nerchio has been considered one of the best European Zergs, this is his chance to take the number 1 spot! Nerchio had an interesting run in the Round of 16, after losing 0-2 to Genius, Nerchio fought back to 2-0 both ShoWTimE and ForGG to advance second in his group. Nerchio's opponent is the legendary MMA who is in hot form having made the top 4 in both WCS Europe Season 2 and DreamHack Bucharest.
VortiX
VortiX who has only made Top 8 once before in a Premier Tournament since HotS (WCS Europe: Season 2) blasted through his Round of 16 Group With 2-0s against both BabyKnight and ThorZaIN. He faces a tough challenge against DreamHack Summer Champion StarDust. VortiX is sometimes the forgotten Spanish brother, a good result here will help show the world the younger Durán brother is every bit a potent as the older sibling.
TargA TargA is yet another European Zerg who has been unable to strike into the Top 8 since HotS for a Premier tournament (in fact not since Dreamhack Valencia 2012). Many people commented that TargA making Premier League was an achievement for a player on the cusp of European greatness for so long. Many analyst were quick to write TargA off and TargA's 0-2 defeat to NaNiwa in the first round in Group A of the Round of 32 the doubters felt they were proven right, however in true Norwegian Polar Bear form TargA struck back defeating ToD 2-1 and getting his revenge on Europe's best Protoss NaNiwa, advancing to the Round of 16 and knocking NaNiwa out in the process. TargA's dream run continued in the Round of 16 with a 2-0 against Happy and a 2-1 win against Welmu, to become the first player to advance to the Round of 8 Playoffs. TargA how finds himself facing off against the Runner up of WCS Europe Season 2- MC.
TargA finds himself as the only European (and only Non-Protoss) in the bottom side of the bracket, with Genius and WCS Season 2 Europe Champion- duckdeok. Here's Hoping TargA's ZvP is in fine form as he strives for his first Premier tournament podium finish in HotS and a chance to elevate himself as one of the best Zergs in Europe.
