so me and my new team hosted a LAN event in Manila last Saturday. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun.
I think we are going to be trying this monthly, and prize pool around $150.
Things I learned are:
1. people are usually late one way or another
2. figuring out casting and game start is tough still, coz you have to get the flow of the tourney going, and then balance not having too much dead air on stream
3. there are always a few no shows from those who register early
4. people use a different name than what they are playing with and registered with
5. people are usually friendlier in LAN than online tourneys - less BM - trashtalk like "gg fool", get out, etc...
BTW I borrowed SC2SEA tourney rules, seems the simplest.
Congrats on hosting a LAN mate. Sounds amazing! It is really awesome to see all parts of SEA taking off. 2014 has been an awesome year for SEA in terms of the success we have seen, not only in terms of new tournaments getting up and going and invigorating the SEA scene (SEAcraft, Friday Night Fun etc...also the work that HvG has begun to do) but also, even more valuble, that our players are starting to get higher recognition. Petraeus, Fenner and Iaguz going over to ROOT; PiG's trip to Europe (all though he may not have gotten the results he wanted). But also the local scene is tremendously stacked at the moment. Wally, Demilove, MK, Blysk, Pezz, Probe, EnDerr are all tearing it up.....
We need more peeps like you in the more "isolated" parts of the SEA scene to step up and organize stuff.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The SEA scene is one of, if not the most organized Starcraft community in the World. We don't have the resources or the support that other regions have, but look at what we have achieved. It really says alot for what a community can achieve when we all come together.
Everyone keep up the good work. I hope the Manila monthly LAN takes off and is successful.

This definitely applies to me

Thx Philosopher we have so many great people like you whose hard work is appreciated, and actually inspired me to get involved. One day I was sitting around and thought, hey why not a team? And tourneys?
SEA definitely is special, more active than NA even...
We have a few online players due to numbers, it wasn't a big budget event... it was a test event to see how we can learn and do more... so far I think we are good for next month.
One thing though is casting that long is hard... especially alone. I don't know how Metalcore does it and others. I had 2 co-casters taking turns...
