I would like to apologise for all players affected by the situation which occurred during wT Weekly 45. I appreciate your patience during it all and the support throughout. I will do what I can to avoid the issue occurring again. I would also like to apologise if at any point during the night I appeared erratic or frustrated - I just simply do not appreciate blatant disrespect for people's time be it mine or others.
For those of you who were not involved on Monday night I decided to do an "undercover boss" and admin the event I manage each week to see if there was anything I could see which would make a difference to those admining it in the future.
I was horrified to see two players signup for the wT Weekly for what appeared to be no other intention that to ruin it. Never in my year of work within SC2SEA.com or with SC2 in general have I seen something like this happen and never have I been so disappointed.
This is a transcript of the log of events for the event (isolating the incidents):
They both then had this to say in the discussion log:
I pride myself on remaining calm, positive and thoughtful when it comes to any situation however this is beyond acceptable. You waste not only my time but the time of others and in forcing my attention away from administration you impact the flow of the tournament and any chance of participants having a smooth and enjoyable experience.
I have emailed Challonge to see if there is any way to ban accounts/IPs from signing up to events and/or being able to remove the privilege of reporting your own scores.
Neither of you were in the [wT] chat and even if you were you did not make yourself known to me with a concern. After changing the results to reflect the situation you changed them again to reset the bracket.
Unsoundgeko and ItzDante/ItzVGaminghave been banned for 1 year from any tournament I run.
Over the last three weeks there has been concerns raised by administration and the team around the way in which admins are being treated and in regards to players reporting their own scores and walkovers.
I wish to make it VERY clear as it states in the rules:
• Players must not submit their own scores, including walkovers, within Challonge - players must report all scores through the admins who will submit the scores
From now on there will be a 0 tolerance to reporting your own scores. All scores MUST go through the admin(s) on the night. Failure to do this will result in an instant disqualification no questions. Repeat offenses will result in bans from future participation.
You may continue with your next game without the bracket being updated once you have reported your score in cases it is not updated straight away. This 0 tolerance also relates to any disrespect or abuse to admin(s) and pointless time-wasting requests such as "Can you please seed me top 16 next week." and "Do I get to advance anyway because I am only 12". Don't waste my admin(s) time.
Fenner raised a good question during wT Weekly 45 in that we should make walkovers earlier.
From now on Round 1 walkovers will occur 10 minutes after the start of the event (down from 15). Each subsequent round will also have a 10 minute grace period for players to return to play their next match. If player A returns within 10-15 minutes it is up to player B if they take the win or play the game. If player A returns after 15 minutes they will be disqualified.
It is each players responsibility to read the rules before participating.
Unfortunate events, but there's always a few trouble makers.
I know having players auto join to challonge each week is easier, but have you considered having a signup thread here/TL?
I personally find it works well. You can match players id's to their sc2sea/TL accounts, and find out more information about country/team. And they can post their main account most known by.
Plus adds more posts to sc2sea + wT threads, which can be counted as event views if you wanted to use them that way.
Might be an extra 5-10mins work. Perhaps just have signup lockout 10mins before you start each monday. Shouldnt be an issue since threads are up days in advance.
In addition i think this would become more useful with Global Play we could have a heap of unknown players signup and play on sea. If they register with a forum account, we know they are more likely legit, and have information.
Players adding results themselves might sound like less work for all, but it may limit the amount of information admins have for organising games for stream and balancing the bracket.
Yeah I have found it confusing and frustrating when trying to admin when people are recording their own results and giving themselves walk overs. As an admin its already really hard to make sure everything is going right and the right scores are there but having to go through and then fix results which were incorrectly submitted makes it a nightmare!
Another solution for the walkover thing might be to add a checkin 10 mins before, not sure if that's possible with challonge though and it might annoy some people.
I hope you do not face this kind of problem anymore in the future.
Major problem I have been facon as a tournament organizer so far has been noshows and in rage quit in the middle of a group, which is just annoying. Playhem have a system that is based on replay submission and the score is deduced from the replay from what i understand. On bynaybeast.com, we also have everything done by admin manually which is a lot of work, but 100% control form the admin side.
I would like to organize a meet up on stream for all SEA tournament admins someday, so we could sort out how to improve tournament sharing our problems and solutions, and provide a good rise for SEA community!
Anywho, nice job for hosting that event!
Sincerely,
