I looked to see if any LAN tournaments have happened in Brisbane since I ran the BEST last August and couldn't find any. As a heads up, it's making me consider organising another tournament at Elysium or potentially starting a seasonal league (4 tourneys per annum) so start practising if you're in Brisbane!
Instead of winging it again I'd be able to put a lot of time into it because I'm working part-time at the moment. Also, I'd have the time to hunt sponsors to get the prize pool higher and find a couple of reliable casters if there are any in Brisbane at the moment.
I've been trying to catch up up on the Brisbane/SEA SC2 scene to help me decide whether it's worth making something seasonal. Does anyone know roughly how many diamond/master/grand master players are in Brisbane?
Also, if you'd be keen on helping organising events in Brisbane let me know
There's one in March, I'm pretty sure it' the ACL that the others have mentioned.
If you want BakaInu and I are willing to help you run tournaments (Baka runs good tournies, or so he says)
:S It's not the organizing of the events that is the problem.. It's the fact that our major venue charges 18 dollars to hire the machines, and to have any kind of prize pool you need to pay an extra 6 dollars... even then the prize pool is pretty terrible. I also forgot to mention that the connection is average at best.
We need sponsors for Brisbane events, and alternative venues to Elysium. Lansmash is great but it only comes around a couple of times a year, and the entry there is a lot more reasonable (15 for the whole day of Swiss)..
I just think it's an issue of funds, rather than an issue of interest.

There have been a fair few Brisbane LANs, namely WCG qualifiers, ACL offline qualifiers and a couple of LANSmash events. The problem with hosting these sorts of tournaments at elysium is that their internet is horrendous. It's fine when you're playing LAN tournaments and the such, but having ~20 PCs all connected to Battle.Net 0.2 at the same time is like trying to play multiple PCs through a bluetooth phone modem (it sucks)
Nonetheless, I'll turn up, pay and play to show my support for eSports! ^_^
