About:
This will be the official SC2SEA Banner Design thread. Several people have mentioned that our current banner at the top isn't exactly professional looking and its hurting eSports. That was never my intention, I loved the avatars our Japanese artist drew for us a year ago so I asked her to make the logo too, so naturally she did it in her same style and I didn't really re-visit that area since then. I recognize that eSports should be taken professionally and so a change should be in order to show that.
Goodbye old friend!
The current logo is 880 x 116. The width maybe adjusted to a smaller value but the height has to remain at 116px.
Prizes:
The winner will receive $50 AUD transfered via paypal as well as the everlasting pride of having your design displayed at the top of SC2SEA!!!
To Submit:
Just post your design in this thread!
To Vote:
To show that you like a design just leave a positive comment in that post!
Rules:
At the end of 2-3 weeks a poll will be made to help us decide on the winning design.
The design is completely up to you. Should you want to redesign just the SC2SEA words with and put it alongside our avatars or if u prefer to do a complete overhaul, feel free to do as such.
Should a banner design really stand out, the site's theme could be tweaked to work around it. i.e don't feel constrained by the site's existing color theme.
Image Resources
Creating your own images would be the best but here are some resources if you're not going to.
TBH I don't mind the country characters, especially with the kiwi looking like he's trying to get into the group photo and just wants to belong. But the font, colour and sparkles of the site name as well as the sc2 characters is what makes it cartoony. Perhaps a redesign of the SEAhorse is fitting as well?

I think you're really misinterpreting what was said lastnight! No-one suggested that the banner is "hurting eSports", they just said that it doesn't represent eSports.

SC2SEA has never been an eSports website, it's a community website with occasional eSports content. It's very fitting for a community theme!

Whilst I agree with your points, I think the direction Nirv wants to take with this site is to make it an eSports site. I'm just hoping we can keep the community thing in the process. That being said as along as the chatbox is still on the front page and pretty prominent this really shouldn't be a problem
15 minutes in photoshop has yielded this very cartoony entry, kinda similar to current one I guess. Text is a place holder til I can be assed drawing something nice xD
And an example when control - v'd onto the site. Probably doesn't make sense unless it stretches across the entire top though I guess
Will also make super srs ESPORTS banner entry. Any ideas on a theme at all? And are you open to changing the site colours?

Just wanted to throw out that I don't mind the current banner. Obviously if you want to change go for it, but for better or worse it's sc2sea's style and if someone is going to not look at a site because of a banner then we don't really miss anything by not having them in the community anyway.
Saying that, the site looks a lot sicker lately because of the changes away from the "cartoony" look in some of the text size reductions etc, so I'm excited to see what new stuff might be produced.
i like the idea of a new banner, something more professional; although the banner does represent a lot about the purpose of the website sc2sea it won't imo lose its community feel with a a more professional looking banner
haha the designs were funny and i do hope for some serious entries soon!
Also, its not just what was said on the show, several people in the past have mentioned the banners as well and I do agree it doesn't look professional. I was usually on the fence about changing it because when discussion came up, there was always mixed response with some people saying they liked the avatars and others disliking it, much like in this thread. I do however, feel that with the recent site design changes, if theres any time to change the banners to be more professional it would be now. It wouldn't hurt to try out some designs and see what the community thinks about them and we can go from there.
And to add on to what Lemminks said, I do not believe sites have to be either community OR eSports. I believe these aren't mutually exclusive terms but instead are strongly positively correlated with each other. I feel sc2sea started out very much as an eSports site covering the SEA scene, and as our community grew around it we added lots of features to support the community like the chatbox, blogs, house clans, SC2SEA regular tournaments and so on in the process becoming community orientated. Which is a good thing! These have come to become essential features on the site and all of this IMO helped grow the community AND the eSports scene in our region. Like until recently with the influx of all the major tournaments, our homegrown tournaments on the site created the majority of the scene's eSports competitions and at the same time they would not have been possible with the support of our community. Maybe we neglected the eSports content area on the site in favor of community stuff lately so I will be looking to improve that aspect.
In my opinion the community aspect is an important part of any website. I also view Team Liquid as not just a "community site" but as an eSports community website and i feel they excel in both areas.
Even the smallest donations help keep sc2sea running! All donations go towards helping our site run including our monthly server hosting fees and sc2sea sponsored community tournaments we host. Find out more here.
