Special Hardware Prize 2: People's MVP (Voted, not allowed to vote your own countrymen) [Roccat Kone]
Game 1 on Crossfire, both players go for a 4 gate after trading zealots in the middle, however despite managing to get an extra Stalker out with an earlier second Gateway Hui pulls his gas mining probes off the line and warps in 3 Zealots and a Stalker with his first warp in, while Jim warps in 4 Stalkers for a total of 6 Stalkers. Jim then micros around Hui, who doesn’t restart his gas mining and is only able to warp in 2 more Stalkers. Jim seals the deal by killing an Artosis Plyon powering two gateways and sniping the Pylon powering the last two Gateways and Hui GG’s.
Game 2 on Shattered Temple, Jim Steals Hui’s gas while getting a second gas of his own, however Hui plants down a Twilight Council instead of 4gating. Hui tries to fake a 4gate but loses a Stalker that gets Forcefielded at the ramp. Jim then gets a Robo Facility and a Twilight Council while Hui gets Blink. Hui’s Blink finishes before Jims, but he chases some of Jim’s Stalkers around the centre of the map, allowing Jim to finish his Blink and get an Immortal out by the time Hui gets to his base. With the Immortal and better Blink micro Jim crushes Hui’s attack. A Blink into Hui’s main doesn’t do much but he gets his expansion up while Hui stays on 1 base and goes for a mass Gateway attack. Despite brilliant Blink micro and Jim’s Immortals dancing behind the stalkers most of the time, Jim simply has too many Stalkers and Hui GG’s to give China the 1-0 lead.
Slam opens with a 15 Hatch on Dual Sight while CoMM goes 13 gas 13 Pool. Both players then go for Banelings but, despite both getting good splashes on each other’s Zerglings there are no big drone killing splashes. CoMM gets his Roaches up before Slam and manages to attack before Slam can get Roaches for defence. CoMM just powers through Slam’s defence and Slam GG’s.
Both players open with a 9 Pool on Shattered Temple, however CoMM is able to hide his lings from the watchtower and manages to snipe 2 drones while defending Slam’s 9 pool. CoMM gets his Natural Hatchery up before Slam and proceeds to get a Roach Warren while CoMM gets Banelings. CoMM manages to attack just before any Roaches come out and with a good Baneling hit, takes out both Queens and the Natural and Slam GG’s. China is up 2-0.
Series opens up in Shattered Temple. Softball tries to go for Blue Flame Hellions, however as a result is only able to get 2 Tanks out while XiGua attacks with a Roach/Ling timing. With unseiged Tanks and only a handful of Marines and only 1 Bunker XiGua is able to crush Softball’s defence and he GG’s.
Softball chooses Antiga Shipyard for the second game. Softball is able to sneak a bunker at the top of XiGua’s Natural, however he is only able to get 1 Marine inside before the Zerglings deny reinforcements. Softball then manages to run into the main with 4 Hellions, which are able to kill a fair number of drones before going down. Softball tries to go for round two with the Blue Flame upgrade, however two quickly go down and the rest get taken out before they can reach the mineral line. A misplaced turret allows XiGua’s Mutas to easily harass the main while Softball moves out to the middle. XiGua then manages to get engage Softball’s army while he’s busy dealing with the Mutas and Softball loses his entire front force. After denying a few drops XiGua engages Softball with half his Seige Tanks unseiged and simply rolls over Softball. Softball GG’s, leaving China looking very good at 3-0.
Game 1 on Terminus, HRU goes Forge FE and allows VAYHY to see him plant down a Stargate, however he cancels it and plants down 6 more Gateways for an 8 Gate, however HRU overextends with his first 5 stalkers and loses them to a surround. Because of that he is unable to push into VAYHY’s Natural, so he settles for a contain with cannons while he gets his third base. VAYHY breaks out once his Infestors get out and counters with a huge supply lead. Despite getting some Voids and a Colo out he GG’s once the Infestors get to his Natural.
Game 2 on Shattered Temple, VAYHY tries to deny HRU’s 1 gate expo, however HRU is able to just save his Natural. HRU then goes for a Stargate and is able to do huge damage with his Voidray/Pheonix combo. VAYHY is unable to stop HRU from taking out his golden third and engages at the middle but only kills 1 Colossus while losing most of his Infestors. He then begins multi-pronged attacks when double expanding which HRU is able to handle, not losing a single base and keeping most of his army alive. However VAYHY is somehow able to get a pretty strong army up when HRU begins to move out and crushes HRU’s deathball with Infestors and Corruptors, prompting a GG from HRU despite having more probes and VAYHY having mostly Corruptors.
