I'm often asked by people how do they qualify to join the Starcraft 2 Academy.
We've always said that the Exile5 academy is not for the best players but rather the players with the best attitudes. This means being dedicated to Starcraft 2 and having a general positive attitude. The purpose of the academy is to find our next generation of pro so we also ask that people conduct themselves in a professional manner befitting of an x5 pro.
The other very important thing is being capable of self improvement with minimal coaching. For this reason, we ask applicants to the academy to send through 3 replays together with their analysis of those replays. What they feel they did wrong. What they did right. What they could do differently next time. What lessons did they learn. These replays together with the analysis are submitted to a pro roster player for review.
Being self aware is also valuable. We want to know that a player knows their personal strengths and weaknesses. Self knowledge is important on the path to mastery (thanks Neuro for making me talk like you).
Finally, if you do make it through there is a 3 month probationary period where you have the opportunity to prove yourself.
Having spent some time interviewing Ice and Jevyn we was satisfied that they both meet the requisite standards. We feel that the academy is in solid place with 2 representatives of each race and an excellent dynamic of personalities that work well together.
So without further ado, introducing Ice and Jevyn.
I am Jamie "Ice" Beresford from Adelaide, Australia
Background in Starcraft
I started playing broodwar as a kid, but i would only play against the computers. As soon as SC2 came out i started to play it mainly in team games with friends from school.
What else do I do?
I play cricket, Work as a courier and religiously love the Fremantle Dockers
What I'm great at
I'm great at setting goals and reaching them and I pride myself to my ability to stay calm under pressure
Most memorable moment in SC2
My most memorable moment as a player would be playing on the main stage at ACL Melbourne 2015, I know i didn't win a map on stage but was a great experience and one i want to experience over and over again. My most memorable moment as a viewer of the game would have to be Hearts hold vs XiGua in WCS was an epic hold and comeback.
What are my goals
My goals are to get to the top of the sc2 scene in Australia and then become premier standard.
Something that no one knows about me
I wouldn't say that no one knows but a lot of people don't and that is I'm an avid fan of Country Music and I'm not afraid to try and sing it.
Anything else to add?
Its an absolute honour to be picked up by one of if not the most prestigious teams in Australia. I hope I can repay the faith and bring good games to the fans of x5!!
My name is Jevyn 'JevyN' Reid. I am a 14 year old, Australian KR master zerg player.
Background in Starcraft
I started playing Starcraft 2 around mid 2014. As my mate and I were looking for free multiplayer games to play, we found the SC2 Started edition and after a while I just fell in love with SC2. I had some prior BW experiences, I used to play on a laptop and watch my step dad play at the time, but I was like only 5-9
What else do I do?
Not much really, I play rugby, athletics and pool, and am a year 8 student in high school , but apart from them I don't have to many commitments until I decide to start working
What I'm great at
haha not to much , probably StarCraft and gaming in general if I was to have a boring answer. I guess I am okay at rugby since I finished the season with the most tries in my team
Most memorable moment in SC2
I haven't been to any major lans or events , so I have never seen a 'hype' moment in real life, or in Starcraft as a whole apart from some cool ladder /tounament games... even though you'd probably know how excited I get even at playing ladder games, so my wins at a lan would leave me ecstatic. But, if I had to pick one, It would be the HvG 2v2 Tournament I played with Jamie (Ice) when I was platinum. It was vs tSu and PsymOn, some friends, and entered a really close base race on a massive map, Ice was completely dead, and my mass muta style managed to take out tSu's entire army, and went on to win the game.
What are my goals
To definitely become one of the better SEA player. If I try hard enough, hopefully, the sky is the limit :P
Something that no one knows about me
I managed to permanently damage my knee by smashing a glass safety door with it.
Anything else to add?
Thank you to x5 for picking me up, can't wait to further my skill here. Oh and shout out to ETL for being awesome.

The fact that Jevyn started playing in mid 2014 and has already reached Kr masters screams huge potential. Ice is also a nice guy and could do well if given the right environment. Seems like interesting pick ups, hoping to see great things!
The other very important thing is being capable of self improvement with minimal coaching
If players are required to improve with minimal coaching or help from others and the academy already provides little to nothing (not just coaching, just any support in general). Feels pointless.
the Exile5 academy is not for the best players but rather the players with the best attitudes. This means being dedicated to Starcraft 2 and having a general positive attitude
Phew, thats lucky
Awww.. good luck to Ice and JevyN.. long way to go for them to be right at the top of the scene, but I hope with the right guidance and determination they can achieve their goals.
