LanSmash is primarily a BYOC (Bring your own computer) LAN held over two days at QEII stadium in Brisbane. The next one is being held on the 15th and 16th of December.
I'm going to be running the comps for SC2 and Dota2 for the guys and was after a bit of feedback from the players here as to format etc. I have a pretty large degree of flexibility with what we run on the day, so I want to try and put on something that people actually want to come to.
First question is format. We'll have from 10:30am ish til 6pm. Basically the options I was thinking of were:
1. Double Elim Bo3 - The usual
2. Swiss into a 'championship' bracket single/double elim Bo3
3. Group play into a 'championship bracket' single/double elim Bo3
3. Single Elim Bo3
Second question is map pool and veto system. I'm not an avid player myself so am pretty much out of touch. I am a big fan of the veto system that Dox introduced with ACL and subsequently WCS, but also open to other suggestions.
Lastly is money. There's a standard entry fee into the LAN itself and often some 'prizes' (JB and crew give out which could be just about anything - I think last one they were speakers, a capture card or something and some strawberries), but did people want a small fee to play the competition itself to add a prize pool? i.e. $5 entry winner 50/35/15 split or something.
It's a pretty fun weekend overall and worth coming down to without the comp, but BYOC is often a bit hard for some.
If you have any questions or anything, let me know here. Love to hear any feedback.
P.S. As mentioned I'm also running the Dota2 comp, anyone know where those kids hang out?
Edit: Added link to LanSmash page and time frame.

$$'s is fine.. Happy to contribute $5-10.. Most are for a day of games... But when you have money in it - its better to do inclusive formats.. like Swiss or groups > playoff bracket.
Veto system of 7 maps with players vetoing 2 each then picking a map to play on if they lose - best way imo.
Dota tournament formats? - hmmm Arnor might have an idea about this...? Have a look around Cyber Gamer?..
Iv been to the last 2 of these and they are really fun, I recommended every brisbane gamer comes.
I usually just go on the sunday only for the starcraft 2, but its a great compition, great chance to catch up with every one and have some good competition.
I would be more then fine with paying an extra 5-10 dollars to add to the prize pool. small amount to make it alot more exciting
Veto system is great and for now the WCS map pool is good (even if Tal Darim Alter is abit out of date and always the first one vetoed).
Very fun day and looking foward to the next one
P.S. Not sure if i was suppose to win any thing for third place last time? had to leave in a hurry to catch up on some study i had been putting off, so i could go :P
