I've been experimenting with the most unorthodox strategy for zerg I could possibly think of.
It involves making a hatchery at your opponent's expansion very early on. Usually you take your own expansion first though. I dont recommend trying it in ZvZ, but in ZvT and ZvP it has SOME purpose. Why not in ZvZ? Because they will usually take their expansion before you can get it. Even if you get the hatch down before they can, they will just make zerglings to take down the hatch and there is no way that you will gain any scouting worth 300 minerals out of that.
ZvT: It stops your opponent from getting their expansion, and the terran will then use their ramp defence army to attack the hatchery. This will show you what units they have, and if they are investing in marines, marauders, or if they are making anything different. If they are making different units, you'll usually see a very small amount of rines attacking the hatch. Only a bit useful, and not sure if it is worth the 300 minerals. Of course, you cancel the hatch before it finishes being made or is almost killed off. Thats unless they dont attack it at all.
ZvP: Make a hatchery in front of the ramp early on. Yes, it is right in the open for the protoss to see. So its stupid, right? Not exactly. The toss will usually send a single zealot to complete a walloff at the ramp. But this zealot will usually be sent down to attack the hatch and cancel it once they see it being built. Once that happens, you can cancel the hatch and micro the drone past the zealot. Then you can get your drone past their "walloff" due to the zealot not defending it. It requires speed and a bit of luck, but it can work brilliantly, especially considering it takes about three hits from a zealot to kill a drone. Of course, this could also be used like the ZvT style expo steal, as you can scout if they are going stalker heavy. But I'd recommend this one is done right after you get an extra 300 minerals after making your own natural expo hatch.
Just so you guys know, I once thought I was being 4gated, did this strat, and found out he was going for fast voidrays instead. It can completely change the way you play the game. Unless of course, you can get overlords over in time instead. It IS kind of map-dependent.
Good job experimenting though, i like to try wanker tactics now and then. I spent a while trying to Planetary Fortress rush into opponents bases, didn't really work but was pretty funny.
I tried building a Hatchery inside the enemy's base on Scrap Station without him even noticing until my zerglings were swarming around; with him saying "I never heard no Nydus popping out" - It was my LOL of the day. I practically fell out of my chair laughing so hard.
haha i do the stealth hatch at times too. it can be hit and miss. lings aren't very good. should consider roaches since the larvae for your stealth hatch are very valuable. if you can pop 5 roaches and go together, its pretty powerful depending on your opponent's strategy if he's going 1/1/1 or forge FE, its GG for him. be prepared to support with lings from your main if you meeting toss, or if its terran, be prepared to lose the hatch after you've done damage and play a normal game
