Looking For Some Practice? Join 1v1 Chat Channel Today!
Howdy people,
In an article I wrote a few weeks back titled Getting Out of Gold, I mentioned that I'd created a chat channel called '1v1' that was designed to create a small, enjoyable community of players that were looking to improve at SC2.
It worked. Each night, generally between 5PM and 10PM (GMT +10), we have a number of active players appear and practice for hours in a spectated 1v1 environment, with analysis and constructive criticism following shortly after. More importantly, it's a place to meet like-minded people, make new friends, and get better at SC2.
We'd like you to join us. Rules are simple: no BM, simple manners, and a general lust for improving at SC2. If this sounds like you, come join us by opening your Chat Channel Tab in SC2, and typing '1v1' (without quotes) in the text box at the bottom of the list.
Looking forward to meeting you!
~Nera

So, what league are most of the guys in the channel in?
I poked my head in once after reading that post, but it was kinda late, and I think there about 3 people in there, and all in games. :/ I will hopefully try again tonight.
@LennX/Skitz -- Looking forward to meeting you both in-game! =D
@Erasmus -- It's really quite a good mix. We have 5-10 Bronze/Silver/Gold players, a few Platinum, and 2 or 3 Diamond, too. Of course, we're getting more and more new players show up every day, too, so the deck is constantly being re-stacked.

This is basically what the Protoss Discussion channel is like. Theres always 40+ people in there that are playing games. Though theres mostly platinum-masters players. This sounds interesting though.

I don't blame you for being you, but you can't blame me for hating it

You're right, the Protoss Strategy Channel is similar in some ways (mainly that it's a chat channel, and it's filled with people...) but different in many others.
The 1v1 Channel isn't about finding another player around your skill level and beating him to impress your friends (though I will admit, that's half the fun of getting better at SC2, and we do it quite a lot), it's about putting yourself against players outside of your league to get a better understanding of how stronger players operate; it's about spectating players that are less practiced than yourself, and helping them to improve their game; it's about putting theory to practice and testing new strategies in a controlled environment.
Additionally, the Internet is full of dicks; SC2 is no exclusion. This is a good way to weed out the wankers. Sure, we get one or two join the 1v1 channel every now and then (the price of adding new members, sadly), but we /ignore them and they don't stick around for very long.
Looking forward to seeing you in there mate.

Haha! Well, we're trying to keep the bad eggs away. It's difficult, because there ins't any real way to moderate the channel; however, we've recently acquired a vent and will be offering access to those who contribute to the channel. That should help keep things clean.
On that note: if you do come across players in the 1v1 channel that are being arse-clowns, I suggest you add them to your ignore list. That's what I'll be doing -- if we ignore them for long enough, they'll eventually disappear.

I was in bronze league a few weeks back, then I found the 1v1 channel. After playing a lot of practice matches and getting tips from the great guys that are on the channel, I made it to silver league, then gold within a couple of weeks
